Phillies SS Jimmy Rollins, as quoted by SNY, during today’s Winter Meetings in Nashville…
“We picked up Brad Lidge, which is great…the dude has got some good stuff…Hopeful he comes here, and the fans treat him well, and he gets back to being Brad Lidge that we’ve seen in the past, and we’ll win 100 games. 100 games will get us to the playoffs…I don’t plan on giving up that title as NL East Champions.”
…well, this hurts to say, but, the fact is, he has every right to talk…he talked a ton last spring, his team won the division and he won the league’s MVP…so, spout off, jimmy…though you may wanna quit while you’re ahead…

Now he’s guaranteeing 100 wins…WTF? Granted his team picked up a once dominant releiver, but c’mon…that’s definitely an insult. That’s kind of pushing it!

Phillies didn’t win the NL East, we lost the NL East.
This is the same crap we were hearing last year “Garcia and Eaton are going to dominate!”

Actually, the comments here are remarkably similiar to last season’s Metblog greatest hits, the usual stuff about the Phillies not being any good (Division Champs), we’ll show Jimmy who’s best (6-12 Mets vs Phils) and we should throw at his head (can’t beat ‘em, bean ‘em).
And Met fans don’t seem to realize that their claim that the “Mets lost” doesn’t really that great of an insult. Phils fans don’t mind if you go around chanting that for the rest of history.
Phillies don’t have a leg to stand on. Had they won even won game, maybe..but they proved they weren’t meant for the postseason.
I don’t really care what Philly “fans” mind or don’t mind.
But yet most Met fans obsess about what Jimmy Rollins said once again.

I’m not going to comment. Last season I did, and Rollins came through and wiped the floor against the Mets. So this time I am keeping my mouth shut.
Hey they can talk for now but they have a loooong way to go..Lidge is going to be getting booooed out of Philly by June in that ballpark…They Lost Rowan also so I cannot see how there any better…With Sanchez back & a Schoenweis that is finally settled in our bullpen cannot be any worse then last season..Philly got lucky our bullpen emploded I don’t see that happening again with Sele & Moto gone especially…
Lidge is less of an addition than Rowand is of a subtraction.

let him talk all he wants, now the Phillies get to see what it’s like to be the team with the target on their back. And it’s not like they won the division with a 97 win season last year, they didn’t even win 90 (playoffs included.) They are NOT a very good team, they are a decent team who capitalized on a extreme choke job by the Mets.
People seem to forget that the Mets were the best team in the National League for about 80% of this past season, before turning into one of the 3 or 4 worst for the last 20%.
Gotta bendover for the man.
As Mets ownership/management has told us this winter, “just buy a brick and shut up already.”

Rollins had a career year. I hope he’s ready for some serious regression.
Rowand also had a career year, and is GONE.
By trading for Lidge, the sillies WEAKENED their bullpen by taking Myers out.
Oh, and now that Rowand is gone, Victorino goes to center, and JAYSON FRIGGIN WERTH starts in RF. Give me a break.
They’ll be lucky to win 85 games next year.

jimmy jimmy jimmy…love your confidence and your ability to back it up, but unless you can pitch as well as hit and field every position your team aint gonna win 100 games!! however, if you win 80 games next year you’ll probs still make the playoffs…NL is just a joke nowadays…

lidge sucks and they’re not resigning rowand. the phils got lucky last year. no way they win the nl east again especially if we get santana or willis
he’s probably just using this to try to put himself in the running for MVP next year, since he knows his play alone can’t do it. Maybe he’ll even win the Cy Young Award (but only if the most deserving player for it is a Rockie)

anybody that thinks the mets are better than the phillies or the braves right now is nuts. we were pretty much mediocre last year and we’re probably worse right now. omar has to make some magic happen to get us back out in front

PLUS we dealt with a CRAPLOAD of injuries last year. I’m willing to bet that Alou plays more games than last year, and Delgado can’t possibly do any worse.
This team is definitely better than last year’s.
i wouldnt mind if rollins just said theyll repeat as division champs he has every right to make that claim but 100 wins? losing rowand and gaining lidge is going to add ELEVEN wins!?!?
Why wouldn’t Rollins talk? His mouth won him an MVP, not his bat. If he didn’t “predict” the NL East title, he wouldn’t have won. Read all those past articles, Wright should have won MVP. If Howard won it last year, Wright should have won it this year.

And then maybe they’ll actually win a playoff game.
And maybe next September, the Mets will manage to win a game vs Washington or Florida.
Maybe even the Phillies.
Or maybe they’ll just once again tell us that ‘talk is cheap’ and that they’re so good that they get bored having to, you know, play the game.
