By Matthew Cerrone - Dec 6, 2007 12:11 pm

According to Joe Haggerty of Metro Philadelphia, citing a ‘baseball source,’ the Phillies recently offered RHP Kyle Kendrick, OF Shane Victorino and a pair of ‘unnamed prospects’ to the Orioles for LHP Erik Bedard.

Well, there’s always the wild card.

  2. tfc3rid says:

    Ooooh, yay!!!

  3. shea_guevara says:

If that package got back Bedard, the Orioles are even bigger morons than I thought.

  4. Achilles400 says:

Victorino lost his starting job last year. That offer is a joke considering the Phillies have nothing in the minors that makes the two extra players such a big deal.

    • BillyGoat says:

victorino never lost his job…he was out for 6 weeks with an ankle injury…….

    • shea_guevara says:

I don’t think Victorino lost his job, but you’re right on the Phillies’ farm system; theirs makes the Mets’ look like the Dodgers’.

      • Danny says:

Victorino lost his job to Jayson Werth. Even when he got healthy, he became a pinch-runner, late-inning defense for Burrell, and occasional starter guy.

      • tfc3rid says:

Victoriono got hurt and in the meantime, Jayson Werth really took off…

At this point, Victorino will start in CF for the Phillies…

the philles make the mets system look like the dodgers? they are full of great arms in their system .. carrasco, drabek, savery, outman and adrian cardenas could be a very good 2B and the O’s might like him to replace brian roberts

oh god im starting to taste some vomit in the back of my throat.

  6. dannyb says:

I think that deal would be more appealing for Baltimore if one more major league ready pitcher was involved. Kendrick showed he could be good….in the AL though? Victorino would be perfect for that team. Could put B-Roberts in the 2-hole.

    • dannyb says:

Oh, and maybe bring back David Segui and his roids.

      • kevin2elster21 says:

        leave Segui, bring the roids

        • dannyb says:

If David Segui was a marginal player on roids (perhaps one or two very good years), does that mean that Ryan Howard would hit 85 HRs if he was on them? Assuming he isn’t of course.

How about Randy Johnson. In his prime, would he have been throwing 140mph?

        • kevin2elster21 says:

different effect for different people. bonds grew into a monster, i’m guessing others have not.

users have said that it’s the recovery time that is diminished, not the strength that is increased.

        • dannyb says:

I still think it would be interesting to see a pitcher throw 200mph. Maybe Randy Johnson would have grown to 8ft tall or something…maybe Piazza’s mullet would have been a super-mullet. Maybe Jose Reyes would dress in red tights with a lightning bolt on them.

          Just a thought.

  7. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

ok honestly ryan church is better than victorino. church pelfrey humber and a prospect is a better offer than that please dont let this happen.

  8. metsman69 says:

The report also said that the Phils offer WAS TURNED DOWN by the Os.

Thats a bit of rather important info to include, wouldnt you say.

  9. astoriametsfan72 says:

Kyle Kendrick for Bedard? Please…that conversation is going to start with ‘we start with Cole Hamels in teh package otherwise we’re not going to have this conversation.

    • Achilles400 says:

Or one of Utley Howard. Surprised someone didn’t say Hendrick and Burrell (although he has the no tradw which would ruin that nonsensical rumor).

    • kevin2elster21 says:

Hamels is already better than Bedard.

  10. ohboy says:

UPDATE, 12-6-07 at 11:04am: Todd Zolecki of the Philadelphia Inquirer shoots this one down, writing that the Phils and Orioles have not discussed Bedard.

11:04 this was posted at 12:20. Shoddy reporting Cerrone. Slow news day?

  12. NewYMets says:

On a side note, the Phillies also offerred Charlie Manuel and a snickers bar for Johan Santana

  13. MEForeman says:

Victorino is trash. He had a huge first few months then forgot how to hit, got hurt, and never regained any sort of starting role. He’s a 4th OF who can fly and switch hit, but he’s nothing of note. He’s roughly the same value as Endy Chavez (who is a better OF and has a better arm)

    • TJFlynn61787 says:

You gotta be kidding me if you think Ryan Church is at the same level as Shane Victorino. Your right he appears to have better numbers the Victorino but frankly you cant gauge speed and heart Victorino has both and to the guy who thinks Endy Chavez has the arm strength of Victorino ur nutse victorino had 15 PO’s before he got hurt. Ryan church played in a doubles friendly ballpark and hit for a team that was basically out of the playoffs since June so all of his numbers are diminished I mean he was sooo good he was added with a catcher and two minor leaguers for Lastings Milledge who was obviously not favored in New York. In regards to the trade I dont think itll hold true because frankly as a phillies fan I dont expect it I expect us to come back with a better rotation on paper as well as bullpen and line-up so if we get Bedard its just icing on the cake. 14. stickguy says:

That actually isn’t a bad starting point. Kendrick did surprisingly well last year in his first taste, so he is at least +/- equivalent to Lester of Pelfrey.

And Victorino is a pretty good hitter, with enough ML time to not be a prospect anymore. He is better than Church probably. And a legit CF (he is replacing Rowand in CF after playing RF last year).

Depending on what the other 2 players are, that is not a silly offer.

    • Hit The Weights Zeile says:

ryan church had more doubles than victorino had extra base hits, his OBP and SLG were higher and they are about the same age how is victorino better?

  15. Steve In Tampa says:

No Chance he goes to Dump-adelphia

  16. EastFallowfield says:

Victorino had hamstring issues. He played sparingly when he came back because he kept tweaking it.

  19. kevin2elster21 says:

yea. i was thinking the same thing. kendrick put up some solid numbers and victorino is good.

  20. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

he didnt hit 20 hrs he hit 12 that website is such garbage they screwed up a pretty vital statistic

    AVG .281 | HR 12 | RBI 46 | OBP .347 | SLG .423 + 23 doubles and 3 triples.

church had a 349 OBP a 464 SLG and had 59 extra base hits, victorino had 38, church had more doubles alone than victorino had XB hits. church is 29 victorino is 27 so age isnt a factor either. church is a better player than shane victorino please people do research.

  21. kevin2elster21 says:

    numbers numbers numbers.

  22. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

ok then you tell me why victorino is better than church.

  23. a817 says:

plus victorino plays in a park where even Jason kendell or juan piere can hit a home run
