According to 1Up.com, a popular video game website, Mets SS
Jose Reyes will be featured on the cover of this year’s MLB 2K8 video game by 2K Sports.
Chris Snyder, Director of Marketing for 2K Sports, regarding their new cover star, as quoted by 1Up…
“Jose is a young, exciting, game-changing player who is on the cusp of super-stardom-much like 2K Sports and Major League Baseball 2K8. That isn’t to say he doesn’t game. Jose almost took down Justin Morneau in our Bigs Home Run Derby last year during All-Star Weekend in San Francisco. We didn’t hold being runner-up against him…we still put him on the cover!”
…thanks to teddy k for the link…

thank god its not madden
puhahahaha
lolololol… thank god!
Can they photoshop a Twins uniform onto him?
haha guess we cant trade him now, thanks god for 2K video games.
great…now when he slumps there’ll be 800 posts about how he didn’t focus in the offseason, spends too much time posing etc etc ad nauseum.
well david wright was on mlb 07 the shows cover last year and had a fantastic year so hopefully that trend continues. PLUS not sure if anyone is aware but every other installment of this lineup of games (2k7, 2k6, 2k5 etc) has had DEREK JETER on the cover. score one for the mets haha.
wow, I don’t usually buy into the East Coast or New York bias, but in this case I just might.
as long as jimmy rollins isnt on the cover of mlb 08 ill be happy.
I still cant believe you Mets fans still dont give Jimmy Rollins any respect the only reason he isnt on the cover of that was because he won the MVP. 2K sports doesnt have the money to pay the man for that. But come on man Jimm Rollins made the predicition and backed it up. I thought Holliday was MVP, and i am a Phillies fan, I thought his numbers where too good. But they obviously took defense into account and frankly J-Roll is the best defensively at that position and oh yeah he played every game too. Chase Utley MVP 2008
The strange thing is that this company is based out of the Bay Area. But, yeah, I’m glad they finally took Jeter off the cover. Incidentally, I love these games.
and more importantly anyone who thinks reyes is “partying” away the off-season. he appareantly in dr working out just about everyday along with helping out kids with baseball:
“I’m going to take a couple days off because of how the season ended,” Reyes said, looking ahead to 2008. “If I feel a little tired, I’m going to talk to Willie about it. I learned my lesson.”
anyone who wants to trade this kid can’t be a mets fan. best talent (position player) in mets history. i’ll throw wright in there to avoid needless debate

Amen Zen!!!
We have been fortunate to witness some of the all time best Mets position players in the past 20 years.
Best 2 1B, Keith Hernandez and one Johnny Baseball
Best 2 C, Carter and Big Mike
Best SS and 3B, Jose and DWright
Best CF, Beltran
My orignal point was how in the past 4 years we have witnessed the best in Reyes, Beltran and Wright, but I have to give props to the best Met ever, Mr. Hernandez!!
but they didnt officially sign livan yet
Don’t worry … they won’t trade him. It would be too much of a PR risk.
How about top OF: Darryl
2nd best RHP : Dr.K
Also, as much as it pains me, Benitez and Franco are among the best closers we ever had, but considering the rold wasn’t really widespread till the late 80’s, I guess you take it with a grain of salt
….to even say that implies you never saw Tug pitch.
And I’ll put Wagner above Franco and Benitez. I’d even put Looper ahead of Benitez
Well, I am only 23 years old, so that would be a correct assesment
I was thinking about Wagner too, but colossal failures aside, both Benitez and Franco’s body of work eclipse what others have done
Oh, and I don’t talk about those two young “phenoms” from the 80s. Those two wasters broke my 10 year old heart, so I ignore them.
Neil Allen? Best reliever ever based solely on that he was traded for Mex.
Skip Lockwood was the man.
Great post! Echo the sentiment. To your list I’d add Mookie Wilson. Loved to watch him run in Shea’s outfield!
Concerning the Mets’ September crash, you know Jose Reyes is hearing it big time from friends and family in DR. Look for Jose Reyes to have a monster year in ‘08!
LGM!!!
additionally, here is a caption from one of the photos:
“Reyes’ father, Jose Manuel, and his mother Rosa, live with him in Manhasset during the baseball season. During the off-season, the family returns to the Dominican Republic.”
“crazy, partying” reyes lives with his parents year round.
Thanks for the link Zen. Nice story. You can’t put a price on players like Reyes.
They should use the picture of him getting tagged out in the batter’s box.
Ugh. The needless, duplicative “snow white” jersey, too.
It’s here to stay. Get over it…
It’s our best jersey too…if any of them has got to go it’s the Yankee-esque pinstripe. ugh.
Bring back the racing stripes!!!!!
the “snow white” unis are the best in my opinion. i dont like the pinstripes bc its too much like the yankees and in my mind plays into the whole “little brother” image we have. although im not gonna lie when they wore those newer racing stripes version of their unis that night in 06 i think it looked good.
as long as were on this tangent – screw the black unis! theyre stupid!
Oh, so you bought one. Congrats.
And the pinstripes are now the exclusive property of the Yankees, even though the Mets have worn them since ‘62? Are you a Met fan or just someone that hates the Yankees and finds the Mets a convenient outlet?
I could care less the Yankees wear them, but they look like crap. They’re BY FAR our worst uniform. At least bring back the racing stripes so we can call it a throwback and honor 86 in the process.
Dunno. I think a poll would suggest otherwise.
I gotta go with venom on this one. i don’t hate the pinstripes, but the white ones look good too. i especially like the blk/blue combo for the hats.
The plain white with the white piping is the best uniform they’ve got. I’ll even take the black over the pinstripes. Pinstripes look dopey.
I dunno, I just like to factor traditon into it, and I think the “snow white” looks ridiculous on some of the (ahem) bigger players.
And the black ones suck, too . . . but you knew that. I just think they have too many uniforms, but you knew that, too.
If it were up to me they’d have 162 different uniforms. I like change.
I also own stock in Majestic Athletic.
!!! The white is so sexy.
it would be nice if he learned a lesson about pacing himself. Be a little more selective about when to run (auality over quantity with SBs), and take a day off now and then to stay fresh. Of course, that last part is really up to Willie!
no one buys baseball games for consoles anymore. the last great baseball game was Ballball Stars for the NES anyway.
let me know when they put a met on the cover of Halo 4
The MVP franchise was great…but then 2k got the exclusive third party MLB rights after EA did the same with Madden
I’m still playing MVP 2k5 on my PC, I am annoyed beyond belief that there is no modern baseball game for the PC anymore. there are some great sims (OOTP Baseball is great)
I may finally break down and buy a PS3, mostly because i’m getting a new LCD TV, and i want both an HD-DVD player and BlueRay, you can buy a Blueray player for $377, or a PS3 that comes with a BlueRay drive for $399… seems a no brainer to me.
But it would be nice to have a real baseball game for the PC
“real baseball” meaning that you actually control the player or managing and acting as GM? If you want to manage and/or be the GM/owner give “Baseball Mogul” a try. Fun game that allow you to take a team and build/shape it as you wish as long as you don’t go bankrupt!!
OOTP is such a great game (although when I replayed MLB history, the Mets somehow ended up being worse than in real life. I got to 2020, and they were the only team to never win a World Series, and the only decent player they ever had was Vlad Guerrero. Very depressing.) I wish someone could make a game that could combine the graphics of an MLB2k_ with the statistical background of OOTP. Of course, if they ever did that, I’d probably fail out of law school, and quite possibly starve from neglecting to leave my house.
Yes, if they ever combined a sim like OOTP, with an “arcade” style game like the MLB2kX franchise, I might never move from in front of my computer…
Tug, I am addicted to Baseball Mogul. There couldn’t be a better way to play armchair GM during the offseason.
Baseball Stars, truly one of the best video games EVER!!!
First game to incorporate wall climbing/jumping/diving. Too bad it didn’t have mlb players
yeah but they did have an all black team called the ninjas and an all female team.
Indeed, the Lovely Ladies.
Not true. All my friends and younger brother’s friends all buy MLB 2K. Are you saying more people buy them for PC’s?
probably shouldnt have said console since i really meant for either. i’m just bitter that sports games now sacrifice fun and game play for realism. i dont want to spend half my life learning how to master all 15 pitches dice k throws. its even worse for madden. whats wrong with tecmo bowl?
you can also probably figure out that all this bitterness is from people who have figured out the controls PWNing the crap out of me.
Don’t diss on Madden . . .
a) I loved Madden until I finally caved and got an XBox 360….the new version sucks. The graphics are great, but the controls are awful, and the game is so unrealistic
b) MLB2k7 looks GREAT. The graphics are incredible, and I love the pregame stuff where they show around the whole stadium, they’ve gotten most of the parks down perfect. But the game itself is awful. After Chris Carpenter struck me out 19 times on opening day, and then Chuck James struck me out 15 times in the series against Atlanta 3 games later, I just gave up on the game.
By the way, random baseball video game gripe: how come EVERY baseball video game gets the homerun apple wrong? They ALWAYS have it going up this gigantic pole, so that it’s even with the top of the scoreboard. Haven’t any of these programmers ever actually seen a Met hit a homerun at Shea? Wait, don’t answer that…
there will be no halo 4 dummy.
oh really? no kidding? listen dummy, i know bungie said they werent making anymore but guess who owns the franchise after the studio split? i wouldnt put it past microsoft, would you? plus there already is going to be an halo real time rpg a la command and conquer produced by the people who did age of empires.
dont cross me again or i will frag you so hard.
I thought the same thing about there being no good games for consoles anymore, but then I bought 2K6 for $9 at a local Game Stop. And now I am addicted. It’s so freakin’ realistic, and now I have motivation to get the new version. Sweeet.
As for Baseball Stars, you are right on that one. American Dreams. Ghoulish Ghosts. Ninja Black Sox. Freakin’ Awesome.
I remember creating an all-girl team because, win or lose, you got more money from the gate for upgrades; and then I would beef up the guys one by one. Ah, yes, the NES…
Glorious.
I disagree the best baseball game was Little League Baseball for NES, Canada and California were nasty.
I could take you with Texas any day brother!
OMG! I thould I was the only kid who played that game. I use to turn the tint all the way down on my TV to simulate the old turf grass… I was NY all the way.
It’s in a league of its own like Tecmo was for football.
bahahahaha tecmo football. classiC!!!!!!!
Tecmo def best football game ever. Oh the good old days!
i disagree, the best baseball game ever was Ken Griffey Jr. Baseball for the nintendo 64
So when do the winter meetings end and how long will it take before Gammons and Philips rank the Mets as a team that needed to make a move but didn’t.
I have heard Theo Epstein has left and without Santana. Now is our time to pounce.
As much as believing anything that Phillips says makes me want to gouge my ears out with a crochet needle…. he did say the Mets wouldnt make the Playoffs, and he was right.
I’m actually glad the Mets haven’t made a move just to “Make a Move”
But we do need to get some pitching.
Technically he was right. I don’t think he quite covered the spread though.
I know, i’m just saying that at the time, we all blasted phillips. myself included, and it turned out that we were wrong, not him.
I’ll still look forward to blasting him every chance i get, just for the fun (fun, pronounced Kasmir) of it.
When is this game available (xbox 360) … anyone know?
I used to love ken griffey jr baseball for n64… me and my friends used to do the draft and play our own seasons
hear hear!
you used to draft and play your own season? how unique!!!!
i know… i was a trendsetter
wasnt ken griffy jr one of the first games to offer that?
Only reason ever to consider trading Reyes was when we thought there might be a chance at ARod. Definitely an argument to be made that Reyes was tradable if we could land him. Once that evaporated, all sane thought of trading him went out the window, as far as I’m concerned.
It’s funny how people think Arod will continue his success. Yes, he had an MVP season last year and he was clutch (at least in the reg season). But that was also his option year. It’s like his walk year with a safety net.
There’s no guarantee that he won’t regress back to the days of hitting grand slams when his team is up 8 runs.
Let me just give you a quick stat
2007 was an aberration.
he batted 331 when his team was within 4 runs and
218 when it was more than 4 runs; late & close 357
2006 – 278/351; late & close = 237
2005 – 314/354; late & close = 293
AROD puts up the softest numbers. Don’t be fooled by his good-for-fantasy stats.
