…Mets GM Omar Minaya and his staff are getting ready to leave the MLB Winter Meetings in Nashville…
…as such, the Winter Meetings are officially over…
…during the three and a half days worth of rumor and innuendo, MetsBlog.com logged over 750,000 hits, featured 140 posts,
including over 20,000 words, while roughly 6,500 comments were posted from readers…
…keep in mind, simply because a trade was not made during the last few days, it does not mean a transaction will not get done in the future…for the most part, these meetings are for a) signing free agents, and b) creating dialogue with other teams, so a potential trade can be made in the weeks to come…

“for the most part, these meetings are for a) signing free agents, and b) creating dialogue with other teams,”
Now you tell us…
i think the majority of fans think that all these deals always go down at the winter meetings. Do some deals go down? Sure, but a lot of the time its just ground work being laid down, talking to agents, talking to other teams, that sort of thing. Seems like every single year people are let down, but this is how it always is. A couple big deals out of nowhere for a couple teams, and the rest is just talk, and there will be more deals down the road. Not sure why people are continually surprised by this, it happens year after year.
How about some mention of the big news for the day for the Mets cross-dressing fans?

The winter meetings are over…..NNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOO!!
Day late and a dollar short.
This garbage was already posted and dismissed for what it truly is…nonsense…about two days ago.
old news and obviously fake. i mean who goes around saying, “I pitch for the Mets.” And obviously some dumbo who reports everything to Page6 reported it.
As I wrote yesterday…
According to a team spokesperson, Mets RHP John Maine has been in Virginia ‘since the end of last season,’ meaning this silly report from the Daily News is totally false.
“We like our starting rotation. Would we like to improve that? Yes. Would we like to get a guy that’s an innings eater or a guy that’s a front-of-the-rotation guy? Yes. If we don’t, are we a good team? I think we’re a good team,” Minaya said.
“I don’t like to create a false hope,” he added. “I don’t want our fan base to think if we don’t do something in these meetings — I don’t want to disappoint. I want to talk about where we are as a team, and we’re probably going to accomplish things after we get out of here.”
And yes, the meetings rarely have the amount of moves anticipated. Two years ago the Mets weren’t even players in the Beltran talks and Omar didn’t offer the 4th year to Pedro until the last day (but hadn’t heard back yet).
*three years ago
Well…it was fun thinking through all these crazy scenarios. I’m now hooked on this blog because I was clamoring for up-to-date news. Now, I’m just on here to talk, talk, and talk some more…
Thanks for the great job Matt & staff. Best sports blog in town!
Get some sleep Matt — thanks for keeping us up to date.
Congrats on staying busy through this winter meeting session. Next year…I may just stay with NY Football Giants and wait it out. I wasted the entire week checking back with this site over and over again. Its thursday and I have done almost nothing at work all week. Plus my eyes hurt from staring at the damn screen.
GET SOME REST MATT. WELL BE OK FOR THE NEXT FEW DAYS. LET JORDAN DO SOME MORE POSTING ON THE PROSPECTS AND TRY TO FIGURE OUT WHY THEY ALL STINK
Haha, touche! LOL, maybe we can run a section here on “the pathetic state of the Mets’ minor leaguers, what are they doing wrong here?”….
I want to know one thing….Why isn’t Omar Minaya going after any relief pitchers at all like Octavio Dotel, Eric Gagne, Antonio Alfonseca, Ron Mahay, Luis Vizcaino? What’s the hold up? We need to fix the bullpen as well as the starting pitching? Everyone seems to be fixing there bullpens….Why not us? All those pitchers i just named are FREE AGENTS…I don’t understand Omar’s moves this year at all….I am still upset over the Lastings Trade to Washington…
most of them suck, and the few that don’t probably want a 4 year deal.
Besides, who siays tha Omar isn’t working on them? Just because you didn’t haer a rumor?
Until they sign, assume Omar is considering every one of them.
Besides, as I osted on the Rule 5 thread, with the Register kid, the pen is actually in pretty good shape (Duaner dependant of course).
and what is the rush?
ugh, you had to mention Milledge?
Traditionally it is the Friday,Monday and Tuesday after the winter meetings that most of the trades and signings get done..Im sure by Monday the Mets will make some sort of move, besides they have to have something new to discuss on Mets hot stove on SNY….Well gang does anyone truly believe we will get Santana?? Or are we looking more @ Livan, and Colon? Final thoughts crew?

Thanks Matt for putting in more time and getting more done during this whole thing than Omar.
don’t forget the most important reason for the winter meetings… especially if you ask Bud… look at how much pub baseball got over the last week! they were everywhere! in the middle of the offseason, there’s no better to better generate positive interest in the game.
Kinda cool story, the actual meetings are over but the talks are not. I was in Nashville today and I was on the flight home with Omar (who I spoke to briefly), a couple of Mets scouts and assistants, and a couple of guys from other teams (St. Louis, Houston, the Yankees among others I heard mentioned). The phones were still ringing and I heard a lot of teams named like the Cubs, Dodgers, Red Sox, Washington, Detroit, and Florida. My impression of Omar was that this thing is far from over.
