Well, rumor has it Maine likes dressing up….

  2. soma138 says:

are you sure Maine isn’t coming dressed as Mrs. Claus?

    • kevin2elster21 says:

      idi0t

    • toomanyuniforms says:

You beat half the blogosphere to that one.

Also, it’s all fun and games to make light of these ridiclulous rumors (because, man, wouldn’t it be funny if it were true?, etc.), but this is how these ridiculous allegations can dog a player for years — comics, professional or amateur — just can’t let it go.

  3. ciceroj says:

oh man, let the jokes roll…

  4. dontstopbelieving says:

Clearly, Maine will be borrowing Anna Benson’s outfit from 2 years back.

  5. kevin2elster21 says:

John Maine has really taken over Kris Benson’s role

    • natew says:

…will Duque be playing the elf? (as he was picked up as a sidekick in the same sequence of trades)

I wonder if they will ask Maine about these rumors so he can set the record straight. I wonder if anyone will keep a straight face while discussing it…

  6. VCarver says:

Haha! Poor Maine. He’ll be the butt of a thousand jokes over this black dress thing. He does seem to have a good sense of humor though.

As for him dressing up, when they were on the tour of Japan, he dressed up in full samurai costume and it was pretty funny. So maybe he does like dressing up!

  7. toomanyuniforms says:

In other news, why is Perez stuck being an “elf”? Did they draw straws, or is this CONCLUSIVE PROOF that Maine is ahead of Perez in the rotation???!?!?!**

**yeah, I know. I’m not being serious.

  8. Chris Jelic says:

What a deal that Benson trade was – Maine replaces Kris AND Anna Benson, while the Julio/El Duque aspect is just a bonus.

  9. BiggieSmalls says:

Santa Dress joke was a softball.. funny though

But seriously.. if you are superstitious.. the Mets Santa has not had much luck

Benson, Cameron, .. who else? i seem to remember a running joke that whoever dresses up as santa gets traded

  10. Peter says:

Wright broke the curse last year . . .

  11. BiggieSmalls says:

thats a relief.. hate to see Maine go.. even if he does were womens clothes.

  12. mikey_FF says:

Man … as soon as I saw this post I knew the jokes were going to be flying. Which one will go longer, this one, or the 10 minute joke? LOL

  13. Ken Dynamo says:

hey – did anyone here the john maine likes to dress in women’s clothes? LOL – WEIRD. now he wants to dress as santa? haha, crazy john maine. ROTFLMAO!!!

    • toomanyuniforms says:

Almost makes you want another “Gosh, we just don’t know what’s happening with Santana” post.

  14. dannyb says:

    Anna Benson looks better.

  15. Blue_n_Orange says:

I wonder if Ollie is going to jump over the velvet ropes every time he ushers a kid to Santa’s lap.

  16. The Second Spitter says:

Hey, if Maine wants to dress up in women’s clothes. Fine, as long as he pitches like the last kinky guy we had in the clubhouse… David Cone

  17. Rahijo61 says:

Lets see Trachsel, Franco and Benson got traded or cut after playing Santa or his jolly helpers. Is this a subliminal message by the wilpons that one of these guys might be moved?

PS: The John Maine comments are tacky and classless…we are met fans and are better than that!

    • Ken Dynamo says:

tacky and classes is when john maine wore a white dress after labor day. how gauche!

      LOL

    • theCoop says:

Rahijo61, David Wright was Santa last year, with Willie as his “helper” (I think that was the case, I know Willie was there dressed up)…neither of them are going anywhere anytime soon. I think they are using guys they KNOW won’t go away now :D

  18. Ceetar says:

Now that Maine’s taken such an active role with the organization, maybe they can start selling shirts and jersey’s with his name on it? Maybe? Same with Perez.

It has nothing to do with ‘class’ or anything that makes the Yankees successful, business wise, it’s that they know how to market their product. They’ve had Hughes and Chamberlain shirts for months.

  19. theCoop says:

Ceetar – say it louder! I need to get my Oh Pea t-shirt next year…truth be told, you can find Maine shirts, I’ve seen them…only probs is they sell out. QUICKLY. They’ve had Alou shirts since he was signed basically, yet he was out for 2/3rds of the season. Maine and Pea will be around for a long time, mark my words.
