A 32 year old pitcher who weighs 500 lbs is like a 40 year old pitcher. Since we are talking about Livan, will that be a hero sandwich pick?

Thats fine. I would give them Perez, Heilman, and 2 lower level prospects as long as he signs long term with us. I hate to give up Perez but he doesnt come close to Santana. And in your scenario we keep Gomez, F-Mart, Pelfrey, and Humber. Fine by me. Maybe we throw them Joe Smith and Church.

STAY AWAY. I don't have a problem "taking a flier" on Garcia because he has been dominant in the past, but Livan? Come on. At best he is a #5. Why would we want this guy for more than 1 year. We need to get younger.

He might not be a bad investment since Duque most likely will go down about that time.

I think they said that Garcia will be ready around June.

I think Omar will panic if he doesnt get Santana soon. He will feel like if he doesnt sign a FA pitcher he wants and waits for Santana to no avail he will be left empty handed. That being said I agree that he signs either Livan or Colon. That would be fine if either was our #5 starter but not our #3 or #4 "innings eater" which is being thrown out as a need for us. We may need a "innings eater" but it must be an ace/stud type of eater. A guarantee stopper every fifth day and his name is Santana. I'm sorry but anyone less then Santana on this team is a failure for Omar in my eyes. We have alot of quantity to offer Minny. We can give them 5 or 6 very good prospects instead of the 2 or 3 other teams are offering. Plus Santana with his no-trade wants to be in the NL on the Mets which weighs in our favor. And we have the cash to sign him if Freddy will allow it. No brainer for me and Omar needs to earn his money now and convince Bill Smith to pull the trigger.

On the plus side, I don't think we will get Livan. On the minus side, I definitely think we will be getting Bartolo Colon. If you hadn't noticed, Omar like to use his old GM notes from when he was with the Expos. You can bet your bottom dollar that Fatso Colon ends up in the orange and blue this offseason. Barring a colossal move, this season will rank up there with the Titanic as one of the biggest disasters in modern history. ICEBERG.. DEAD AHEAD.
