Buzz: MLB Teams like Erik Bedard
By Matthew Cerrone - Dec 10, 2007 10:28 am

…for what it’s worth, the buzz regarding Erik Bedard and the Mets has cooled significantly since the Winter Meetings…on other hand, it has seemingly increased for other teams

According to a recent report in the Boston Herald, the Orioles want OF Matt Kemp, RHP Clayton Kershaw and 3B Andy LaRoche from the Dodgers for Bedard.

On the last day of the Winter Meetings, at ESPN.com, Jayson Stark wrote that Baltimore’s top two offers for Bedard are from the Red Sox and Blue Jays.

Meanwhile, the Cincinnati Enquirer reports that the Reds ‘definitely have the talent’ to acquire Bedard, by offering RHP Homer Bailey, 1B Joey Votto, and another top prospect.

…i.e., Jay Bruce, who was recently listed as the top prospect in baseball by MiLB.com…

Lastly, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, citing ‘club sources,’ the Cardinals could consider trading their top prospect, OF Colby Rasmus, in a deal for Bedard.

…the thing is, there is more and more buzz from baltimore suggesting that the Orioles will first try to take advantage of the demand for bedard by bundling him in a deal with an ‘expensive contract,’ such as 3B Miguel Tejada or 1B-OF Aubrey Huff…

…if the Cardinals truly want to trade Scott Rolen, to me, it seems like a natural fit for them to bring on bedard and tejada, once rolen gets shipped out of town

It seems like everybodies got the prospects to deal for talent except the Mets.I mean we have seen signs of excellence from Pelfry-but does he really have it? I hope Carlos”mr 0-2″ Gomez shows something at the plate because he’s shown defense and speed but nothing else.
I mean if Milledge was such a risk how come we got 2 starting players for him.
Does somebody know something we don’t

You do realize that he’s 21 and could really use another year in the minor leagues. The only reason he came up was because of injuries to other players.

    Where’s Sweeny Murti?

Holy cow.. those pacakages are better then any being offered for Santana.. or even better then what the Marlins got…

No way the Dodgers or Reds make either of those trades… esp the reds.. no way they can send Bailey AND Bruce packing and only get Berdard to show for it…

    Will never happen.

They seem more like media speculation then anything. No way either of those teams makes those offers, otherwise Bedard would have been traded already.

I can ask $15,000 for my ratty 2002 Neon. Doesn’t mean that I am going to get it.

What I wonder is, if pitching (see the Chacon note) is so valuable, why are the Mets supposed to just toss every pitching prospect into a deal like they were disposable trash?

Heilman should be worth more than Chacon. He is better, and probably would be a better starter. Why not try and trun that into some serious postion prospects?

  5. extrawhitemeat says:

I’m interested in the Neon.. can it play catch? I’ll give you Mike Pelfrey for it….

    Matt,
I cant believe someone like you wouldn’t know that the 7th best overall prospect in the MLB according to the MILB COLBY RASMUS: PLAYS CF NOT 3B!!!!!

But nice try anyways, next time you’re not sure about something check it up!!!!!!!

  7. rogasm says:

    Yeah Matt, Rasmus is CF…

I posted a trade offer here last week, my boys here thought I was crazy, but I knew what the O’s wanted a week ago, good cheap young talent. The O’s are not going to topple the Yanks or the Sox any time soon. So, their best option is to stockpile young talent, that can win in a couple of years as the Sox/Yanks primo players are getting old.

With that mind I’ll repost my idea…

    Mets give the O’s

Gomez, Humber/Pelfrey, Heilman, Church, Estrada and Reyes

    O’s give us

    Bedard, Hernandez, Tejada, Huff.
