According to the Baltimore Sun, SS Miguel Tejada has been traded to the Astros for OF Luke Scott, RHP Matt Albers, Troy Patton and Dennis Sarfate, and 3B Michael Costanzo.
…well, it only took two years, but the Astros finally got tejada…
According to the Associated Press, speaking to a TV station while in the Dominican Republic, Mets SS
Jose Reyes said he’s happy to be on Mets and is glad to know he will not be traded in a deal for LHP Johan Santana.
…from what i can gather, reyes’s agent, who also represents santana, is down in the Dominican Republic to help him with a press conference for charity work, where i hope he is working to settle jose’s fears, as well…
Reyes, on whether the Mets should trade top young players to acquire Santana, as quoted by Christian Red in the Daily News…
“We need another starting pitcher. Glavine’s gone. We need another one, no doubt. If we can get Santana, whoa! That would be huge. You have to think about (trading young prospects). Santana is still young too. Let’s see what happens. Our team with Santana? Whew!”
…by the way, check out red’s column…certainly a must read…
Nationals C Paul Lo Duca recently talked to New York’s WFAN, and said…
- He feels he was not treated with respect by the Mets during this off-season, and that he is disappointed that not one single coach or front-office guy called him in the off-season.
- He does not feel he was ever their top choice, even when they traded for him, adding that he believes he just sort of ‘fell in to their laps.’
- Omar Minaya did call to say he was still interested, but it was after the team had signed Yorvit Torrealba, which never made sense to him.
- He never asked for a three- or four-year deal.
- He does not feel like he was ‘stabbed in the back’ by any ‘locker-room guys.’ He got along with Jose Reyes, he’s good friends with Carlos Delgado, he’s great friends with David Wright. However, some people did have issues with him, and, ‘You don’t have to be a dummy to know who.’
- Nevertheless, he has no grudge against the team, and he is excited to play them next season.
- He believes Brian Schneider will go a good job for the Mets, ‘and I’m not just saying that, I really believe it.’
- He has no regrets about how he played and what he did during his time in New York. He’s going to miss most of the guys in the Mets clubhouse.
- The fans in New York are ‘awesome.’
- He feels the Mets will be fine next season. Delgado, who struggled with his post-surgical hand and elbow last season, will have a big year next season.
- Lastly, Billy Wagner should replace him as WFAN’s weekly interview, because he’ll certainly speak his mind.
Yesterday, Nationals OF Lastings Milledge and C Paul Lo Duca addressed the local media.
Lo Duca, on why he chose the Nationals, as quoted by George King of the New York Post:
‘A big part with me was staying in the National League, being familiar, knowing the National League East and getting to play the Mets 18 times.’
At MLB.com, Bill Ladson quotes Milledge, regarding his personality:
‘I love the game. I play the game with passion. Nobody can take that away from me. People can think what they want to think on how I play the game. The most important part is I play to win.’
The Free Lance-Star has a picture of the two new Nats.
…i wish them both the best, just not when they play the Mets…sounds like lo duca will certainly be playing with a chip on his shoulder, and rightfully so…
Lo Duca will be a guest with WFAN’s Evan Roberts and Joe Benigno at noon.
Tagged Paul Lo Duca, Regis Courtemanche |According to the Kyodo News, RHP Hiroki Kuroda has informed the Hiroshima Carp that he will sign a contract with the Dodgers.
‘Citing baseball sources,’ Kuroda is expected to leave for Los Angeles today and sign a contract believed to be worth $30 million over three years.
