eMailbag: Mets should be 2000 Champions
By Matthew Cerrone - Dec 13, 2007 4:14 pm

…Roger Clemens and Andy Pettitte are mentioned in the Mitchell Report…clemens and pettitte were on the Yankees when they beat the Mets during the 2000 World Series

…as such, several people have e-mailed suggesting that the Yankees should forfeit their trophy…

…clever, but you’ve got to be kidding…i mean, it’s not like the people mentioned in this report are the only people to ever purchase and potentially use steroids…i think it’s fair to speculate that more than a few back-up players from the 2000 Mets were also involved in steroids…and that’s the problem with this list…it only confirms suspicion, it hardly proves guilt, since no actual tests were taken and failed…

…seriously, if you think that only these 50 or so people were involved in this scandal, and not other players who you and i personally cheered for during the same time frame, you’re not being fair

SNY has been running continuous coverage of The Mitchell Report’s release all afternoon.

Although Roid Rage would go a long way in explaining that bat throwing incident.

    • TheMonstersOutOfTheCage says:

this is a good stocking stuffer now lets get santanna

      • itsmetsforme says:

thank god Johan wasnt on it. Or maybe that would have been good for us. I dunno.

For the sake of history, let it be known that I made one of the first preposterous demands for the Yankees to cede their ill-gotten 2000 World Series title to the Mets. At 1:42 PM on a little blog i like to call itsmetsforme.
May i live on in infamy.

i notice Mr. Koo escaped scrutiny. I heard his last words in the US were “just try to test me, biatches!”

    • ridethesnake says:

Should we give Piazza the 1996 MVP?

    • applehat says:

Denny Neagle, another user in the report, pitched Game 4 of the 2000 World Series for the Yankees. The only game the Mets won (Game 3) was a game pitched by a non-steroid abusing Yankee (El Duque)

      • gipper913 says:

Yes – nine guys on Skankee “champ” y2K team in report….plus there’s leyritz, who wasn’t in report but is an admitted roid user.

So, Cerrone, it is much much more than just Roidger and Pettite.

        ASTERISK ASTERISK ASTERISK

      • ridethesnake says:

Half of the eight Yankee pitchers in 2000 were using steroids agains the Mets.

        Users: 30.7 innings, 1.47 ERA

        Non-users: 16.3 innings, 4.97 ERA

Clemens and Pettitte killed the Mets obviously, but it was Stanton that was so key, blowing the Mets away in the 11th and 12th of game one, striking out the two guys he faced with a runner on in a 3-2 game of game 4, and then another 1-2-3 inning in the clincher.

        • ridethesnake says:

I did actually read the report. He was Pettitte’s trainer in 1999 with Clemens, who was using, and I believe he was using before he asked for HGH a year later, and I also believe you are on roids too, and there is no proof against that.

        • kevin2elster21 says:

In fairness, if you actually read the report, Pettite used AFTER that World Series

As far as I’m concerned, he’s a lifer until proven otherwise. Same goes for everyone on that list.

    • rubble099 says:

Do you feel cheated? I do.

Check out these box scores from the 2000 WS…

      http://www.baseball-almanac.com/ws/yr2000ws.shtml

Game 1, Yankees win 4-3. Pettitte starts, and Stanton gets the W. Knobloch scored a run and had a RBI. Justice went 1 for 4 with 2 RBI. TAINTED VICTORY!

Game 2, Yankees win 6-5 Clemens gets the W. He 2 hit the Mets for 8 striking out 9 with his steroids enhanced arm while going all roids rage on Piazza when he threw the broken bat. Justice scores a run. TAINTED VICTORY!

Game 3, Mets Win 4-2! WHOOOO HOOO… luck prevails over a stacked deck! Justice has a hit and a RBI, Knobloch has a hit. Stanton pitches 2/3 on an inning striking out a batter with his steroids enhanced arm.

Game 4, Yankees win 3-2. Neagle starts, and Stanton gets the hold striking out 2 in 2/3. TAINTED VICTORY!

Game 5, Yankees win 4-2 and take the series in 5. Pettitte starts, goes 7 striking out 5. Stanton gets the W pitching a perfect inning striking out 1. Justice had a hit. TAINTED VICTORY!

Observations: A juiced Yankees starter pitched 4 of 5 games. The Yankees won those 4 games and and lost the only game a juiced pitched didn’t start (El Duque). Juiced Yankees pitchers and batters played in every game compiling the following stat line: Wins – 3, Holds – 1, Losses – 0, IP – 30.2, SO – 28 / AB – 28, H – 3, R – 2, RBI – 4.

In each game of the WS, the score was very tight. The average margin of victory was 1.4 runs. Clearly, these juiced players had a major impact on the outcome of the World Series in addition to the major impacts these players had on the preceding regular season and ALDS/ ALCS.

Should the Mets feel cheated? Do I? HELL YEAH! Bet the Sox do too…

  2. GravediggerHebner says:

not sure this is completely correct but to the best of my knowledge:

    13 Mets
    Lenny Dykstra
    David Segui
    Todd Hundley
    Mark Carreon
    Matt Franco
    Mo Vaughn
    Chris Donnels
    Paul Lo Duca
    Fernando Vina
    Gary Bennett Jr.
    Paul Byrd
    Scott Schoeneweis
    Gary Matthews Jr.

    17 Yanks
    Jason Giambi
    Gary Sheffield
    Randy Velarde
    Hal Morris
    Rondell White
    Roger Clemens
    Andy Pettitte
    Chuck Knoblauch
    Jason Grimsley
    David Justice
    Glenallen Hill
    Denny Neagle
    Ron Villone
    Todd Williams
    Kevin Brown
    Jose Canseco
    Darren Holmes

    3 both
    Josias Manzanillo
    Todd Pratt
    Mike Stanton

    • FBones24 says:

Most of those Mets are nobodies and had 0 impact on anything. A good handful of those Yankees played important roles in their championships in the late 90’s and 2000. Clemens, Petite, Knoblauch, Stanton, Justice…

    • tonylett says:

      Justice was also a Met!
Plus, maybe it explains smacking around Halle Berry.
Halle Berry, Man !—Come on Dave !

    • JayMatt19 says:

Comment is very misleading, as there have been players suspended for steroid use not mentioned in the Mitchell report who are not on your list.

Mota (Mets), Lawton (Both), Irkii (Mets).

By the way, gotta love the Karma. A-rod steals the thunder of game 4 of the WS to announce he is becoming a FA.

Now the Clemens/Pettite accusations steal the spotlight the day the Yankees announce the signing is official. Way to go A-Rod!!

      • GravediggerHebner says:

JayMatt19 you are correct, thank you. I should have labelled it “names from the Mitchell report” as that’s all it is. I quickly skimmed the report and made a list of names/teams. Adding the names you’ve provided still gives the Yankees both the longer list, and the list of “more important” players, which was what I was getting at initially.

      • mr_met says:

        iriki

    • boredatwork says:

      theeee JUNKEES!!!!!

    • thrilledge 4 prez says:

besides loduca and dykstra, all of those guys blow. The mets cant even get the good juicers. Go figure!

  3. Honest I says:

lets not forget that todd pratt was on that list… and he hit that homerun to push us to the CS…

  4. Honest I says:

actually.. i comepletly take that back.. that was 99!

  5. Kalihan42 says:

I think this explains a lot about Clemens and the bat throwing. It also explains his durability into his mid 40’s. I doubt he would have had the longevity of career if h hadn’t been using the ‘roids.

More reasons to hate the Skankees

  6. Roach2 says:

I hope you’re not surprised getting emails like this. I am surprised by nothing with people on this board

    • mets227 says:

      Salient point.

      • belboy01 says:

It is of course a crazy idea…but based on punishments by other ruling boards, (IOC stripping Marion Jones of her Olympic medals & possibly her relay teammates)…it isn’t totally illogical…

…but in all seriousness, why would any self respecting Met fan want to win a WS by the Yanks having to forefit their 2000 WS championship…

        • KennyHas9Lives says:

Seriously, as much as I’d love to see the Yankees stripped of the 2000 WS (I still think the umpires should be investigated… Clemens should have been ejected from game 1 at the very least), I think this does put a very serious taint on the Yankees’ string of WS victories being that almost half their 25-man roster during that run are outed PED users.

Also, I have to wonder if steroids had anything to do with Knoblauch losing the ability to throw to first base. Maybe his throwing arm was a little too strong. I think Keith Olbermann’s mom would agree!

  7. Ken Dynamo says:

failing a drug test is not the only way to be considered guilty. i think the burden of proof has been passed beyond that of reasonable doubt for many of these guys.

    • FBones24 says:

Yeah…in reading this report, a lot of this evidence is more conclusive than a drug test.

    • tonylett says:

With who we know and strongly suspect, all the more
reason guys like Jim Rice, Andre Dawson & Jack Morris
      belong in th Hall!

    • whoamar says:

how can a cancelled copy check not be considered evidence to a line distributor. this is ludicrous. thisd report may be the real reason that los mets didnt resign him, the report was due out and they knew he had done this in the past.

      • Kalihan42 says:

It is circumstantial evidence is what he means. There is no evidence he used it just that he bought it. It is still pretty damning circumstancial evidence.

        • Ken Dynamo says:

yeah, im no lawyer but if im in a jury and my ’suspicions get confirmed’ im readying a guilty verdict.

        • KennyHas9Lives says:

but even buying this stuff without a valid prescription is still a violation of federal law.

wouldn’t it be sweet if MLB doesn’t go after these guys that the feds do? this is all only within the last 10 years, probably still within the statute of limitations…

  8. MetsUKfan says:

Does that mean the 300 game winner and others will have question marks next to their names (and records) or is Bonds the only scapegoat?

    • MEX says:

I think Clemens will not be voted into the Hall of Fame.

    • mets227 says:

      Amen…

    • whoamar says:

absolutely..if he gets in, which these writers might just do today since some have no scruples themselves, he should definitely have an asterisk, as should all of them that played during the juice ball era.
now we might more accurately call him roger the dodger…bobbing and weaving through the process of whether to retire based upon these results…close that book!

  9. kendychavez says:

if you want to bug your yankee fan friends…

    New York Yankees
World Series Champs 1999 and 2000*

i’ll give em the pre-roger years. in 99 and 2000 the entire rosters are at least suspect as far as i’m concerned

    • dave27 says:

Ha – what would be better is if someone snuck into Modells with asterisk stickers and placed them all over the “Got Rings” t-shirts.

Hell I might do it myself.

  10. mets227 says:

What will be interesting is if Bonds and Clemens both retire at the same time, say… tomorrow, thus making them eligible for the HoF at the same time. My suspicion is that Clemens would get in, first ballot, and Bonds would not. And I cannot wait to hear the writers justification of that!!

  11. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

whoever said it earlier was dead on…TOM SEAVER is officially the best RHP of all time.

    • kevin2elster21 says:

I never thought he relinquished that title. This is a different era of baseball where the expanded league floods the league with mediocre and sub par players who can’t handle major league pitching.

Thus the elites of the league have bloated stats.

    • metsfansberealistic says:

      Gibson was better

  12. njmatt says:

it’s too bad that MLB won’t do what USATF has done to Marion Jones and will continue to do to athletes that get caught. Take away their medals, ban them, and seek prize money to be returned.

As of right now the IAAF and USATF officially have the best steroid/HGH policies.

    • MetsUKfan says:

Yes. And it leads to further problems. The Silver medalist Thanou wants to be promoted to Gold and almost everyone suspects her to have cheated as well. In fact more thought she had cheated at the time than Jones.

      • njmatt says:

I 100% agree that giving the medals to the next in line is stupid. But I love that the IAAF and IOC are taking medals away. I think that is awesome. If baseball takes a step like that, such as taking away the world series ring, or just deleting stats of guys that are PROVEN. Let me point out, this list in my opinion is not enough, it is mostly hearsay, there needs to be proof. If there is proof, baseball should take action like the IOC, USATF, and IAAF have

Look, for the longest time track wasn’t clean, but my point is, they have been putting in a huge effort to make it clean.

How many question marks surround the great runners of the 90s?

Although not Haile G. If Haile G was on anything, I may cry.

    • Hit The Weights Zeile says:

100% agree. although if the mlb were like them then clemens and bonds would be banned and then they wouldnt be able to sell merchandise with 756 on it.

    • Ken Dynamo says:

does anyone remember the names of the track and field medalists that werent accused of steroids?

i mean really, is there a more boring sport in the world than running?

      • mets227 says:

From what year would you like me to begin???

      • njmatt says:

Except that it’s not boring in the least. You just don’t have a taste for it, which is fine. But it is one of the most exciting sports in the world…so much goes on. If you’ve ever competed at a high level (college and up) on the trails, tracks, or roads you would understand. But you haven’t and that’s fine. But right now, we are comparing the performance enhancing drug policies and the IAAF, IOC, and USATF take the cake in terms the best policies.

I could name great runners that didn’t win medals all day (there are many), by the way. It’s called being a fan.

      • Ric says:

Yes there is this game where they run around kicking this black and white ball tring to get it into a net. The problem is after much tom-foolery they always end up kicking the ball out of bounds. They do this for an hour and a half rarely scoring. I think it’s called futbol or something. VERY boring.

      • kevin2elster21 says:

        Ohhhhh kay. good one !

  13. Ric says:

Any truth to the rumor that Pettite was injecting the steroids into his humongous nose? That would explain a lot.

    • GravediggerHebner says:

and that wasn’t collagen they were injecting into his lips either

    • Roach2 says:

There is truth to Clemens not being able to inject the steroids himself….

      …..

He likes when other people stick things in his @$$

    • whoamar says:

no but to get the roids into his system faster, i think freddie mercury was snorting them in powder form,

  14. IceMet says:

I already heard yankee fan’s saying things like “This report is garbage. They only named Yankees and no Red Sox. Mitchell had an agenda . . . ” Is there any reasoning with these fools? Or, do they maybe have a point?

    • stickguy says:

they are making a bogus arguement. Even if Mitchell hid the Sox players, it does not mean that the Yankee guys are just as guilty.

Anyway, I doubt he did that, since it would likely get out, and totally discredit his work.

So basically the Yankee fans are saying that sure we cheated, but hey, other people did too, so it is OK for us?

Dopes and losers, their entire fan base!

    • mets227 says:

I think the names of people on the list are legit. I think you could quintuple the names on the list and it would still be legit.

    • dave27 says:

Awww. They are being Yankees fans! They are so cute at times like this.

OF COURSE this is a Red Sox conspiracy, right there with the bloody sock, Dave Roberts was stealing signs, it wasn’t interference on A-Rod…I mean, if it weren’t for foul play and dirty red Sox conspiracies, the Yankees would have 75 World Series titles!

      • JarvisJanesAddiction says:

Too bad A-Rod wasn’t named. We could finally stop calling him Gay-Rod……and start calling him A-Roid!

    • KennyHas9Lives says:

You’re forgetting that Roger Clemens, if inducted into the HOF, will probably go in with a Red Sox cap. The bulk of his career was with Boston.

As much as Boston fans hate him now because he’s on the Yankees, they all regret Dan Duquette sending him to Toronto. He’s one of their greatest pitchers.

  15. TheMonstersOutOfTheCage says:

so we can safely say the yankees bin taking it in the ass(needles)For years now LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  16. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

so does joe torre get any backlash since two of his four WS rings were the result of having an illegal advantage over every team his team played against.

  17. DaveKingman442 says:

Nah.. the report also undresses Red Sox management.. they knew what was going on also:

When the Boston Red Sox were considering acquiring Gagné, a Red Sox official made specific inquiries about Gagné’s possible use of steroids.

In a November 1, 2006 email to a Red Sox scout, general manager Theo Epstein asked, “Have you done any digging on Gagne? I know the Dodgers think he was a steroid guy. Maybe so. What do you hear on his medical?”

    The scout, Mark Delpiano, responded,

Some digging on Gagne and steroids IS the issue. Has had a checkered medical past throughout career including minor leagues.Lacks the poise and commitment to stay healthy, maintain bodyand re invent self. What made him a tenacious closer was the max effort plus stuff . . . Mentality without the plus weapons andwithout steroid help probably creates a large risk in bounce backdurability and ability to throw average while allowing the changeup to play as it once did . . . Personally, durability (or lack of) will follow Gagne . . .

In order to provide Gagné with information about these allegations and to give him an opportunity to respond, I asked him to meet with me; he declined.

    • GravediggerHebner says:

and then 9 months later Theo acquires him, for which a popular theory was he did it to keep Gagne from the Yanks. You’d think he’d WANT Gagne to go to the Yanks knowing what he knew.

  18. toomanyuniforms says:

Piazza in the clear, Lo Duca not. Bizarre. The problem, I think, is that it’s so obvious that this report only scratches the surface, it really doesn’t change much of anything. I mean, were any of the prominent players really a surprise? WOULD any prominent player really be a surprise?

  19. Ric says:

OH MY GOODNESS GRACIOUS!!!!! RAHJAH CLEMONS IS JUICING UP IN GAHWGES BOX!!

    • dave27 says:

I don’t think you are going to get a reaction from Suzyn Waldman for months that doesn’t directly involve her conjuring visuals at the mention of “Clemens buttocks.”

      Same with Jeter.

  20. fasteddiehearn says:

amazing that ricky williams gets years upon years for smoking weed hindering only his own performance on the field, while this has become the status quo in mlb. i only wish i was protected by the mlb players association, best job security there is, except coachin the knicks.

    • JarvisJanesAddiction says:

      Pithy…….and hilarious! Props to you!

    • kevin2elster21 says:

      seriously!!!!!!

it’s such a joke. company wants to do a background check on me? WHAT?!?!?! no way!! hello? privacy!!! get outta my face!!

  21. metsfansberealistic says:

    so much hypocracy

    such little time

at minimum, this permanently tarnishes the ‘Yankee Dynasty’

    LOL

    • JarvisJanesAddiction says:

Pass the “Tarn-X”….and shine up the John Sterling Silver. Duuuuuuuh Yankeeeees Suuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhk!

  22. advantgarde says:

Am I missing something, but other than Gagne (exBosox) I really do not see any other Bosox players mentioned…

    • VCarver says:

Yeah, which means those early reports today listing Varitek were a sham. But don’t try to imply that Mitchell was biased. Radomski happens to be based in NY so most of his clients were from NY. Mitchell just let the chips fall where they may.

    • GravediggerHebner says:

The following players names are noted in the Mitchell report and have at some point in their MLB careers played for the Sox:

      Jeremy Giambi
      Josias Manzanillo
      Roger Clemens
      Jose Canseco
      Mo Vaughn
      Chris Donnels
      Mike Lansing
      Kent Mercker
      Mike Stanton
      Brendan Donnelly
      plus Gagne as you mentioned

      • VCarver says:

They still came off pretty clean, as did the Mets. Specially the Sox’ 2004 team which won the title.

They deserve the benefit of the doubt.

        • kevin2elster21 says:

sorry, as far as i’m concerned, no one deserves the benefit of the doubt. in my eyes, every player is a roider until proven to the preponderance of evidence otherwise.

        • VCarver says:

How do you prove a negative?

  23. x-nady says:

    Game 1 Starter
    Andy Pettitte (steroids)
    Yankees win

    Game 2 Starter
    Roger Clemens (steroids)
    Yankees win

    Game 3 Starter
    Orlando Hernandez
    Mets win

    Game 4 Starter
    Denny Neagle (steroids)
    Yankees win

    Game 5 Starter
    Andy Pettitte (steroids)
    Yankees win

Winning pitcher of record in both games 1 and 5 : Mike Stanton – Roider

Yankees Steroid Users in 2000 World Series:
    30.2 IP, 5 ER, 1.46 ERA

    Non-Steroid Users:
    16.1 IP, 9 ER, 4.95 ERA

    • VCarver says:

Mets win! Mets win! Mets win!

      Mets were robbed.

Almost the entire 2000 Mets team came up clean. The only one who didn’t, Pratt, had just 3 ABs in the 2000 postseason with no hits, so he wasn’t a factor.

Anyone not named in BALCO, Canseco’s book, or the Mitchell report deserves the benefit of the doubt. And that means the entire 2000 Mets team.

I’ve now changed my view a little on Steve Phillips as well.

  24. VCarver says:

Mets should really be made the winners of the 2000 WS. But it won’t happen.

  25. dykstraw says:

Sorry Matt, but I disagree. If there really were high profile Mets from that 99-00 team to uncover, I think Mitchell should have gotten to them. This whole investigation centered around a Met contact and big name Mets (for there times) were also found out before and after 99-00. I think that team was pretty clean.

  26. Number41 says:

Roger Clemens is a disgrace! What a loser! “My family, my family, I want to be with my family….” BS, he needed to be near his pusher!
If Bonds has to be made an example of; then let the great Pocket Rocket join him!
I want his head on a stick!!!!!
    Attica, Attica, Attica !!!

  27. stickguy says:

Since there really isn’t a connection the the current Mets team, can we just move on to real news?

You know, like unsubstantiated Santana trade rumors and ridiculous trade proposals?

    • GravediggerHebner says:

Ken Rosenthal’s sister overheard Buster Olney’s second cousin’s dog walker who is also Johan Santana’s stylist say that Johan has always loved Japan and wants to be traded to the Tokyo Giants.

  28. Achilles400 says:

I love the statement released by Roger’s lawyer. “Roger was slandered!” Uh, legal eagle, he was libeled! At least figure out which tort you should invoke.

    • Number41 says:

      Roger -1000

      • Kalihan42 says:

Screw Clemens…we all knew there was NO way a guy his age was pitching the way he was so late in the career if he wasn’t getting the extra added bost to his durability.

    • KennyHas9Lives says:

I’d love to see this become part of an episode of Boston Legal. Judge Clark Brown… can’t wait!

  29. Philnym31 says:

So let me get this straight just for my own knowledge ..
Ramon Castro did not end up on the list, like earlier reports on the internet were saying?

    • hyperion4 says:

He was not in Mitchell’s report. Neither were a lot of other people who showed up on that earlier list, like Johnny Damon, Nomar Garciaparra, and Albert Pujols. That’s why lists like that are so pernicious and unfair. I hope (and expect) that most people will get their info from the report itself or accurate summaries, not what was circulate before the report’s reelase.

  30. Kalihan42 says:

Okay, is anyone else itching for the Mets to make a trade….any trade….so we have something to talk about besides steriods?

    • dykstraw says:

LOL. Well they better jump on Johan right now if they’re interested (ps they’re not) because the Yanks are gonna come roaring back into this thing if Pettitte is open to suspension.

  31. GravediggerHebner says:

Oh man this edition of Yankees Hot Stove is rich. They’re doing a phone interview with Michael Kay. Asked by a panelist (Tyler Kepner NYT) if Kay feels that the late 90’s Yankee legacy is tainted at all after today’s report.

His reply was roughly this: “No, because the whole Clemens thing started in Toronto. With Pettitte, well I just don’t know.”

    HaHaHaHaHaHa

Earlier the host asked Dave Justice if Justice felt that it was unfair to him that he had to compete against people using performance enhancing drugs. Hey host, Justice is on the list!!!!! The better question would have been “was it unfair of YOU to use performance enhancing drugs?”

Now they’re talking about how this will pass, people are more worried about the holidays or paying their mortgage. There’s a river in Egypt people, it’s called DeNial.

    • how did david answer the Q?

      • GravediggerHebner says:

I apologize, I was so incredulous at the question that in attempting to remember it I failed to note the answer. The program is still going right now on YES, and it looks like they re-run it at 10:30pm eastern tonight as well as a couple more times tomorrow.

Also, to be fair to Justice I arrived late to the program and he seemed to be dealing with a question about his personal involvement as I tuned in. He ultimately finished defending himself by saying that he was never notified of the allegations or given an opportunity to defend himself. Had he been notified, he said, he would have responded. To emphasize this point he said to the host “you know I’ve changed my cellphone number a couple times this year.”

The host then added “we should also note that David’s home was destroyed in the California wild fires this summer so his home number changed as well.” Guess he’s got his alibi in place.

      • Philnym31 says:

It was actually pretty comical. Justice said he didn’t even know who Kirk Radomski was and believed the entire thing was a falsehood against him. He refuted ever taking HGH and when asked why he had denied George Mitchell permission to talk with him, Justice responded by saying how he has changed his cell phone number many times within the year. He said he never got called by Mitchell.

        Yeahhhhh okaayyy??? hahahaa

    • metsfansberealistic says:

you would swear that a lot of money is being passed around to people who are saying it’s no big deal on ESPN especially

      sorry

      it’s a very big deal

  32. metsforever says:

It’s no mystery about Clemens. You just don’t get better at 35. Clemens sucked when the Sox got rid of him and suddenly he became great again. Maybe it’s because of his intense “workout” regimen. This guy as gotten a pass forever, especially from the biased NY Yankee homer media.

    • GravediggerHebner says:

this whole thing is Dan Duquette’s fault. He never should have said publicly that “Roger Clemens is in the twilight of his career.”
      Yeah, that’s the ticket!

  33. Philnym31 says:

To tell you the truth, I was surprised Jorge Posada was not on it. According to Micheal Kay and all Yankee fans, he’s “the catcher who improves with age”.

  34. metsfansberealistic says:

actually, New York Junkie fans should be the most cheesed off of all

what with permanent doubt now cast on their beloved Junkies last championship run

or does the entire ‘Steroid Era’ deserve a giant asterisk?

or what with HGH and future, similar developments, shoudl we pay any attention to baseball, if it can never have any real integrity?

  35. DontHitGirlsHead says:

Can I ask why you all make these outrageous claims without using the facts? Pettite didnt use HGH until AFTER 2000. David Justice didnt do it until AFTER the 2000 season. Stanton… yop after 2000. Say what you want about Clemens, Yankee fans hate him just as much. But dont just go making outrageous stats about the Pitching in the series because some names were in a report. Make fun of yankee fans all you want for saying “Rings beeotch” but then dont run around ignoring facts just to make yourself feel better. You sound just as ignorant as the “Rings Beeotch”

Mets fans are so sad. If this is what you people need to forget the fact that you didnt win in 2000 or that embarassed yourselves in 2007 and you’re going to finish 3rd in the NL East in 08, then fine. Enjoy your little ‘victory’ today.

    oh, Rings Beeotch!

    • marvelousmarv says:

      What are you talking about?

      • itsmetsforme says:

what i think he’s trying to say is the yankers can’t win the world series without using drugs until 2001, and then can’t win the ws without them from 2001-present.

    • altru426 says:

first of all…no one has a “victory” today…everyone that was implicated, especially if they really cheat and use…should be ashamed…Mets, Yankees, everyone included…secondly…that is crap that “all Yankee fans” hate Roger Clemens…that is a dumb comment and is CLEARLY not true…and if you think otherwise…we’ll then you are living in a fantasy world…because they all loved him and “wanted him to retire in pinstripes”

oh yeah…and us finishing 3rd in the division? I’d like to know how you guys plan on taking the division from the red sox? regardless…not like ai really care what you guys do unless we do face you in the world series…why are you attacking us now? what does us finishing in ‘08 have anything to do what is going on now? as we know…anything can happen in baseball…should win teams like the mets collapsing and teams like the rockies coming out of nowhere…

i am no where near saying the Mets should have won the world series, cheating or not…i don’t think they could have won anyways…but fact is players were implicated, and it’s just a shame its going on, and for the hard working players like a derek jeter and a david wright, they have to compete with cheaters…it’s a shame…and i hope there are changes made…

    • cyclone says:

DontHitGirlsHead …your whole team was basically disgraced today, so you come on Metsblog to defend yourself, and you are calling US sad and embrarrasing? That’s priceless, not to mention pathetic.

  36. ToastyJoe says:

All I gotta say is, see my blog today.

  37. beef says:

when rahjah clemens was asked if he used steriods all he kept saying is that he never failed a test, we should have known then that he was a cheet.

  38. wyn0 says:

If Zeal had been on the juice maybe that damn ball would have gone OVER the wall! Damn clean team!!! LOL

  39. lookoutformn says:

Pettite and Stanton didn’t take roids until after 2000………though it’s still fun to think that every game the yankees won was started by a pitcher in the report

  41. Roach2 says:

    Hilarious

  42. GravediggerHebner says:

I thought the most interesting thing Duquette had to say was when he told the story about how as a young boy his older siblings often wrapped him from head to toe in Scott tissue and forced him to listen to Led Zeppelin’s Kashmir over and over…someday he’d show them.

  43. ravi3 says:

    ahahah thats great

  44. Ric says:

So they make him listen to Kashmir and in retaliation he trades Kazmir? A little unbalanced reaction, no?

  45. ravi3 says:

    painful, but great

  46. Ric says:

Yeah, no kidding. I wanted to inject steroids into my eyes.

  47. GravediggerHebner says:

he couldn’t hear it clearly due to the Scott tissue in his ears.

  48. Ric says:

Wasn’t that record put out by rca-VICTOR?

  49. GravediggerHebner says:

well played. Anyone who can work something close to “Zambrano” into this better get at least +5 from points guy

  50. whoamar says:

well, trading zamboni dud put duquette on ice.

  51. Ric says:

I know. The other day I saw her picture in the paper and I punched myself in the face for turning to that page.

  52. JarvisJanesAddiction says:

Nasty mug…..decent jugs! Probably on ‘roids too.

  53. GravediggerHebner says:

argue with a Yankee fan yesterday and their response would probably be something like “count the rings biatch.”

argue with a Yankee fan today and it’s like “but umm, well, Pettitte didn’t use ’til 2002.”

    that’s a MIGHTY STEP DOWN!

  54. VCarver says:

You got to believe if Clemens was using as far back as 1998, and he and Pettitte were close training partners in 2000, that Pettitte was probably doing steroids in 2000.

The Mitchell report only confirms HGH use for Pettitte in 2002, but where there’s smoke there’s fire.

  56. JarvisJanesAddiction says:

Oh man, I busted a gut with that pic! Kudos 2 Kevin2Elster21!!

  57. dykstraw says:

Not necessarily. Pratt was buying from Radomski in NY when Mike was here. I’m not intimately familiar with clubhouse society in general or that one in particular, but I have to think catchers on the same club speak on a daily basis considering the nature of their jobs. I would be surprised if Mike was buying from elsewhere when Radomski was going a brisk business right at home…and even if he was, I would think there would be some whispers about it. If Mitchell found nothing on Mike, that’s pretty exonerating.

  58. whoamar says:

i am one of the few Mets fans who didnt like Piazza…he could catch a raindrop with an umbrella.
But if he was clean as a hitter, he really put up some #s in the roid era.

  59. kevin2elster21 says:

How wrong you are. I have a couple of Yankees fans friend. Their response today?

    “count the rings biatch.”

  60. VCarver says:

kevin, if your friends are saying that, then they sound like fools.

Also, I would like to know how you prove a negative?

If someone came to you today and said you’re guilty of murder until you can prove that in your adult life you’ve never done it, you’d never be able to prove it. So does that mean you’re a murderer?

  61. Hit The Weights Zeile says:

i totally agree, i mean no one can truly be 100% innocent at this point but id say after going through this report and seeing the trends (teammates getting other teammates to use) mike is as close as it comes.
