Speaking on WFAN a few moments ago, host Mike Francesa said…
“I ran in to a few people…I did learn one bit of information…There has not been a conversation yet between the Mets and Twins, and they
are on going, where the Twins have made an offer to the Mets or a counter offer that has not included Jose Reyes. So, reports are not true. Reyes has been a deal breaker, from Minnesota’s stand point. The Mets are hoping, by January, that that will not be the case. The Mets are hopeful, they think they will be serious players for Santana. Reyes has been a hang up. They have not come off of Reyes yet…And that’s from the horse’s mouth. All I know is this, the Twins have never ever asked for anything less than Reyes.”
…in the same statement, he referenced that the Mets moved on from Paul Lo Duca for baseball reasons, and it had nothing to do with the Mitchell Report…
…so, knowing that francesa has a fairly strong relationship with Mets GM Omar Minaya, and others within the Mets organization, i guess we have to believe him…the thing is, i have never heard anything like this, nor has Jon Heyman from SI.com, who last week wrote of two offers being discussed, neither of which included reyes…also, from what i recall, a Twins reporter also wrote that reyes is off the table, as far as both sides are concerned…
…my hunch is that francesa was just used to disseminate a bit of spin, but time will tell…either way, we essentially know one thing for sue, which is that reyes will not be traded…

are on going, where the Twins have made an offer to the Mets or a counter offer that has not included

“I ran in to a few people”
well let’s hope they’re okay
Excellent.
rotflmaool
LOLLLLL…I almost choked!!!
+111
What the hell is wrong with you people?
He should get more than that, points guy! Saw Fats up close at a Devils game a few years back, didn’t think the concrete would hold up, but low and behold, it did… and the Devils lost. One of the worst radio personalities out there.
man, i got here too late, i was going to make an identical joke about that. great job tho!
Excellent! LMAO
in other words: omar told me (francesa) the twins only offered deals including reyes. this keeps mets fans from killing the organization for wanting to avoid trading the entire farm system (gomez, f-mart, pelfrey, mulvey, humber) for santana.
i agree with not including all those guys, but i’d bet that the twins would have taken that deal and perhaps have told the mets that
the only horses mouth Fatcessa hears things from is his own..
the wonderful pic at the top of the post would’ve been even better if it had been a pic of a horses mouth and a horses azz.
no, his fat ugly mug would have done us justice.
You mean horse’s ass if we are talking about Mike Francessa…
whoops – late again…
Can we please get Mike and the Red Rocket off of WFAN.. It is the Mets flagship station and it sure as hell will sink with that lard ass
1) Mike and the Mad Dog is one of the most successful radio shows in the country. the show basically IS wfan. It would quite possibly sink WITHOUT them
2) I’m sick of mets fans complaining about how they rag on the mets. The station has enough mets fluffers with Joe, Evan, and Sommers….wahhhh, they don’t like the mets. Mike and Chris were at WFAN long before they started broadcasting mets games. Just because its the mets flagship station doesn’t mean it needs to turn into the YES network (ugh)
3) Red Rocket? Is that supposed to be clever?
aww you don’t like my clever “Mike and the Red Rocket”.. I know they are successful but do i have to like them?? Sorry Soda Pop .. is that supposed to clever? Sorry if you jock Mike Francessa but do the rest of us have to.. Turn into the Yes network?? What??? I am not saying that I want to hear homers like Susan Waldman and/or Micheal Kay.. It would be nice to hear an objective point of view just not from two haters that will never ever say anything good about the Mets.
Wait, who on sports talk radio anywhere has an objective point of view. It’s pretty much impossible for anyone anywhere to be totally objective.
I’d really like to listen to these objective sportscasters/reporters. Wherever they are.
And whether you like them or not, you cannot deny that they are fantastic interviewers.
One more thing I don’t get. Someone defends the rampant bashing against these guys and all of a sudden they’re “jocking” Mike and the Mad Dog. I just don’t get this. If someone enjoys listening to them, should they just sit idly by while some knucklehead posts tired, yawn inducing, play-on-words?
This isn’t even worth a response but…
One interview? Really? Ever hear them do an interview with Bob Dupuy or any kind of interview with a big time guest? They do a great job.
Like they’re clairvoyant and knew Lidle would fly into a building. Come on people…
thank you.
“i have never heard anything like this, nor has Jon Heyman from SI.com”
Just like the only person who heard that Brandon Jacobs would not play this past Sunday was Mike.
The only way I would trade Reyes is IF we could do a 1 for 1 swap and then use some of those prospects to get Bedard. I love Reyes but if in turn we could have a rotation of Santana, Bedard, Pedro, Maine, Perez I would have to do it. I guess then I would go out and sign a replacement SS and have to bat Castillo lead off. We would not score as many runs but I guess with that staff we would not have to.
won’t happen…Omar already tried offering the farm for Bedard
I have to say, having Santana and Bedard might tempt me. I like Reyes, but he’s not THAT untouchable.
I might consider a 1 for 1 w/Reyes maybe 2 years ago.
might
Points guy, so you would not trade our prospects and Reyes for Bedard and Santana? Not that I am saying its a clear cut decision but would that not make us the favorite for the WS?
You’re assuming we can get Bedard w/those prospects.
If it’s a combo trade, packaged together, I might. But Reyes for Santana? Probably not. You don’t give arguably your best player away for a FA to be pitcher who’s going to command $25 per.
The Twinks are fooling themselves if they think they have the leverage. If they, in fact, had the upper hand, a deal would have already been done.
Ok, so we get Bedard and Santana.
Who plays the OF if/when Alou goes down? Who comes up to pitch in the event of injury? Who takes over for Alou in 2009? What about bullpen help? Surely one of those pitchers could help in the pen. Deadline deals? Won’t be possible without chips to deal. Oh yeah, WHO LEADS OFF AND PLAYS SHORT STOP?
Thank God little stevie didn’t accept Jose for sweet lou
a few years ago! Remember that?
lou?
Who would that replacement be????????
I know not much out there unless there is a salary dump somewhere. I guess with that pitching staff you could use Anderson Hernandez and a washed up veteran???
There’s Eckstein available. Oh wait, I forgot we never offered him anything.
Pls., tell me you are joking so I can stop yelling at
my poor computer screen!
We offered Eckstein exactly what he was worth. Nothing.
he signed already.
Fine fine. I’ll stop with Eckstein, but you have to concede that we gave Castillo way too long a contract. he should have gotten 2 yrs.
Ok?
of course that also means moron minaya made a huge mistake in doing so.
You’re effin’ with me, right?
que?
UNFAIR!, Just because I Loved him ! It wasn’t
THAT KIND of Love!
If you were listening, Mike said he asked how they could turn down the deals being reported (not including Reyes). The response was what he said on the show. That the reports of deals not including Reyes were false.
Pretty obvious by now that Mike(I was there when/I know it all)
Francesa what’s Jose outta here in the worst weay so that, he
can spend the next 10 years talkin’ ’bout what a mistake The METS made!—Same guy who ran Both Jefferies and Kent out
of town and who thinks he’s responsible for bringin’ Pizza in.
It’s sickening how much these two yo-yos hate the Mets.
It’s sickening how they’re always wrong, then become lawyerly, nitpicking their own words as they “clarify” what they said.
“Don’t ask me how I know, Dog. I just know”
i wish something would just happen already, i’m tired of hearing the constant back N forth rumors
so is this mike just being mike and spouting off on stuff he probably doesnt know anything about or is this mike being a tool of the omar spin machine. i mean why would the twins continue to ask for reyes after omar publicly stated he would NOT trade jose reyes. and is till dont get why the mets have to offer reyes and other teams can offer minor leaguers or major leaguers with VERY limited action. this offseason is really starting to anger me.
and when the yanks say no Cano or Joba the twins say no problem.. lets figure something else out.. highly unlikely.
exactly
reyes > joba
seriously lol
I would trade Francessa & Russo for a Fudgie the Whale cake and a glass of ice water.
I’ll take a punch to the crotch to get rid of them!
Carvel would be crazy to make that trade.
Water I understand. But ICE water? Who would give up that much for them?
nothing could put me more on the “Get Johan” bandwagon than wanting to see Francessa proven wrong yet again.
see my above comment. he’ll weasel his way out of it, then make us guilty for believing him.
why would the twins insist on reyes right after they signed adam everett to a 1 year 2.8 million deal? i don’t think they are going to pay everett 2.8 mil to sit on the bench.
i totally agree with you. this has to be bs. fat mike is just a tool of omar. this probably means that the mets dont have the prospects to trade for santana and that they’re moving on to livan or whoever else.
If Livans coming , better keep fudgie in the fridge!
Not that I expect it to happen, but if it did, then Evertt could just come back in the deal.
Of course, the give the Mets 2 middle infielders that can’t hit the ball to the outfield on the fly.
But hey, I heard that if you get Johan, you don’t need any offense to win the WS!
Of course, not sure what happens when the other 4 guys pitch. They might need more than 2 runs per game…
Maybe they’ll move him to second like we did in an effort
to ruin his career. Oh!, also, teach him how to run the right
way.
look, it was obvious matsui had a cannon for an arm and the American water destroyed his elbow.
also, matsui was the better leadoff hitter because he’s faster. he may have been shorter, but had longer legs.
Yeah, faster than Ichiro, they said !!
It was obvious, Kaz held back while here, not wanting
to show-up his new american teammates.
what a swell guy kaz is!!!
Don’t know about that!–He was always smilin’ BUT
Coulda just been the contract!
Anyway, I couldn’t understand a friggin’ word comin’
out of his mouth!
is it safe to say nothing is gonna get done till at least January?
“I would trade Francessa & Russo for a Fudgie the Whale cake and a glass of ice water.”
That’s too much to ask for.
Fine. Luke-warm tap water and a scoop of vanilla?
Vanilla ice milk, store brand.
Okay, tap water, no ice.
And they have to pay the water bill.
DFA M&MD
Mezza Fanook.
Francesa never gets anything right and he always knows nothing. period.
No,no, no,no, He’s “The Sports DOCTOR”!
So, He knows!!!
more like the spin doctor
twins: we are looking to trade johan santana. red sox, if you want him you must give us 2, maybe 3 prospects, only 1 with any realy ML experience. yankees, you must give us a top young pitcher, and a 4th OFer. mets, if you want him you have to give us your all star SS that is arguably your team MVP. this sounds fair.
The Mets need Santana the most, therefore, should pay the most.
so 5 prospects isnt enough? or 4 prospects and heilman? give me a break. asking for reyes (if true) is ridiculous.
did i say they should ask for reyes. i’m just saying don’t sit there and say that the yanks, red sox, and mets should pay equal price for santana. this is a competitive market. whoever needs him more is going to pay more for him. the mets definitely need him more, and therefore will have to pay more. this is not lost on the twins, even if it’s lost on you.
its not lost on me thats why im all for the 4 prospects and heilman or 5 prospects. look im not trying to argue with you here. i think we generally agree on this. and ive said many many times we NEED santana, the sox certainly dont and the yanks probably could use him but its not life or death as far as the playoffs goes for them. but like i said theres over paying then theres having to trade arguably your best player.
The Mets need Santana the most, therefore, should pay the most.
Come on, you can’t be serious.
i’m freaking dead serious. this is exactly how the twins are seeing this. let the team that needs him the most, pay the most for him.
oh ok
i agree, it’s a very steep price. but, i have to say, i wasn’t exactly impressed with reyes last year. he looked like a lost puppy for a few months.
but please, don’t misunderstand me. all i’m saying is the twins recognize that omar and the mets need santana more than the other two teams capable of paying him his 7 year contract. therefore, they are going to ask for more.
My point exactly because we have the leverage here no matter what MIN or everyone one else thinks that we don’t because if Santana wants to be on the Mets then he will be on the Mets because if Min dont trade him they get nothing in return well maybe for the draft picks when Santana signs else where and these supposed draft picks will be more than a couple years away from helping them out then the group of prospects we are offering that will be much closer to helping them out at a lower cost. The Mets won’t die w/o Santana because we already have a pretty solid team and can always sign back end rotation guys to fill in to the core we have already but MIN doesn’t have the luxury.
i hope it doesn’t seem like i’m saying the mets should trade reyes. i’m not saying that at all. all i’m saying is that the twins realize the mets are desparate and insisting on reyes only proves that.
The Mets are desperate for an Ace like Santana but the Mets will no doubt be a worse team if they trade away Reyes and what he already brings to the team and especially not knowing if Santana can handle NYC and just having him help the team every 5th day when Reyes helps the team win everyday. IMHO Reyes stays, no doubt, and MIN is the desperate one cause they dont have the money to sign Santana and Santana doesn’t even want to stay in MIN so by no means do they have the upper hand in these talks, I for one purpose that Santana use his weight more in these talks because he is the only one that has the upper hand n dictate where he wants to go. If I was Santana and I want to be on the Mets I would tell MIN trade me right now to the Mets and take what they are offering you because im not going anywhere else or you wont get anything when I leave.
If the Twins are asking for the most from the Mets then any other team because the Mets need an ace the most is the dumbest thing for them to do. So they will just trade Santana to the Red Sox or Yankees and face him at least 2 a year for seven years? And also they would be getting back less prospects. They would be smart to trade him to the national league because then they would not have to face him every year.
He is not going to ask to go to the Mets and the Mets only. I’m sure he’d have no problem going to the “World Champion Red Sox” if they paid him what he wanted.
Can someone explain to me why those 2 clowns get paid?
All I see is 2 everyday Joes sitting at the table reading newspapers and commenting on anything they read. Or maybe just the pictures they see.
Mike gets paid under the table by Diet Coke. Its reverse advertising. “See he’s drinking diet coke and he’s not getting that much bigger!”
I think he’s getting paid by Diet Coke but they’re showing him drinking Diet Pepsi and saying “see what happens when you drink the competition?”
They’re like some bizarre hybrid of Waldorf and Statler and Fred and Barney.
More like Laurel and Hardy! Or Dumb and Dumber!
it’s called advertising, and they sell a TON of it.
but why? how?
What are you, their agent?
i’ve been listening to these guys for 20 years, i like them. sorry.
Been w’ them too the last twenty but listenin’ to them
talk Baseball, Hockey or Boxing is torture!
And not “water-boarding”– Real John McCain in a pit
in vietnam for 6 years– type torture!
well, after i moved out of nyc 4.5 years ago, it’s all i got.
I hear ya!
phillies are apparently looking to sign geoff jenkins as a platoon OFer. no hes not albert pujols but its never good when your competition is being very active and youre not.
Don’t WORRY!–omar got us Ryan Church! Who needs
a PROVEN lefty power bat??
I don’t believe a thing those clowns say, regardless of how close they may be to insiders. Frankly, they’re stupid enough to be used without them knowing about it. They’re also stupid enough to get their information completely wrong.
And this particular report makes little sense to me. If the Twins truly had insisted on Reyes all this time, I expect that we would have heard about it a lot sooner and there would no hints of any additional, ongoing discussions.
Twins probably did ask about Reyes at one point and were unequivocally rejected. But I bet they continued to have discussions about other players afterwards.
Fat Dog said some guy on the Giants wouldn’t play last week and he did.
The guy has is about as credible as any average guy on the street. I wouldn’t put any stock into anything he says.
It makes absolutely no sense to trade Jose Reyes for one year of Johan Santana. It’s absurd and Omar, for all of his faults, will NOT make that trade. And not because trading Jose would hurt the fan’s feelings. Because the Reyes’ value (contract, age, production trends) make him infinitely more valuable than Santana. IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN.
I can’t wait until the twins make a move already….even if its not to the Mets> nothing else big is going to happen until this is settled. SO stop playing games twins.
ummmmm actually wouldn’t u want them to not make a trade so that he hits the open market after this season???
I don’t believe Francessa is a credible source of information. Not because he makes things up or has bad sources. But I think he’s sloppy about the way he relays information and often speaks about his perception rather than having the entire picture.
Bottom line is that I think Cerrone is more credible than Francessa.
Francessa just likes to hear himself talk…
Too often, I’m embarrassed to be a Mets fan. You guys are too much. Why can’t we be a proud fan base? Why is every Met fan seem to be more insecure than a 13 year-old girl? We can’t listen to a Yankee fan and Giants fan debate baseball? The truth is, Met fans can’t stomach objective criticism of their team. And if that objectivity starts to lean toward another fan’s personal bias, forget it, they need to be demonized. Clearly Omar Minaya doesn’t find Francesa objectionable…they are good friends. And if you listen closely to what Francesa said, he used Omar phrases, such as “this was a baseball decision.” So basically, Francesa got some key information directly from Omar’s lips, he passes it along to listeners, but instead of being grateful for the tidbit, you guys are gonna use this forum to bash the show. Are these the same fans who think the commissioner should revoke the Yanks’ 2000 Championship and award it to the Mets? Real rationale folks, I tell ya.
Not really, but I don’t think everything that Francessa spouts off at the mouth should be taken as gospel. He’s been wrong plenty of times…didn’t he say that Joe Torre was coming back as Yankee manager? Is that why Torre has a new office in Chavez Ravine?
hahaha
I get it, that was a good one.
Are you a God?
yes.
STFU!
“Reyes has been a hang up. They have not come off of Reyes yet…And that’s from the horse’s mouth. ”
They just put out an AMBER ALERT on this horse. It was last scene being chased down 6th Avenue by Francessa who wearing a bib and clutching a knife and fork. If caught, he is unsure if he will eat the horse or just strap a m1dget onto it’s back and race it.
doesnt it stink that u just took a while thinking up that little couple of sentences, probably thinking it was funny or something, and nobody responded to it because it is absolutely not funny at all? I mean, not even a little bit. Oh, and it is “seen”, not “scene”, this isnt a movie scene.
No, because you had to take the time to respond to it AND even corrected my spelling. If I didn’t leave silly little comments, you wouldn’t have anything else to do all day. You’re most welcome.
Twins need to stop beating the Reyes drum, they aren’t getting him.
Seem to be 4 ways to look at this:
1) The Twins GM is certifiably insane
2) He isn’t, but thinks Omar is
3) He really doesn’t want to trade Johan, and is using this as some way to appease the fans (but I can’t quite figure out how or why..)
4) He is playing an old car salesman game. Start out asking for the moon and not budging, so when you finally, grudgingly come down to the sun + 2 other stars, the buyer thinks they are getting some great deal and jump on it.
#4 seems the most logical. And when it works, the next day the buyer usually realizes that they were totally fleeced.
So maybe he is saying Reyes, hoping that when he finally says Pelfrey, GOmez, Martinez, Mulvey, GOtay and Heilman, Omar is stupid enough to say yes?
Fankly, once it came out that he wanted at least 7 years @w0 mill, his trade value should have tanked.
Just let the Twins keep him, and play the $$ game nex toff season.
Oh, and since when is Reyes, Ellisbury and Melky close to even? THink if you offered one of the EEs an even swap they might just jump on it?
Omar, just move on and shop elsewhere. This is like that Lucky something jeans place where the cheap pairs are $120. Just not worth the price.
nice post. I am afraid you and I are in the minority though on this one. 7/140 is not really a feasible price to pay a pitcher even if you arent giving up prospects. When asked to give up Reyes, it is just laughable. I dont even know if I would trade Gomez or F-mart straight up for him at this point, because I just dont think it is a good idea to pay him the money he wants. People act as if Johan is already locked up cheap or something.
I started coming to this blog to get useful information on the off-season. All I’ve gotten is information that has been discredited repeatedly. And what is the point of having Jon Heyman on WFAN if he’s making up stuff.
I cannot believe how this off season has been. I remember when we were “close” on getting Benard during the meetings.
I’m convinced that there will be another post tomorrow saying that the Reyes thing is not true. I’m just gonna sit and wait to see what happens because NOBODY knows anything! – The Twins don’t even know.
I would assume that the Twins will continue to ask for Reyes, especially if they’re really not that enamored with the rest of the Mets farm. Doesn’t mean they realistically expect to get Reyes for Santana. Probably just a reminder that our farm stinks right now and the only way they’re value is going to improve is if these guys go out next year and actually start producing. It would help if we had an organization that gave them opportunities to produce when better options don’t present themselves. That way we don’t end up with Church and Schneider for a guy who we once could have traded for Manny Ramirez.
I’m guessing that MIlledge would have been part of a package, not a 1 for 1.
Actually, at one pint, I think Manny was on waivers, and no teams claimed him, when you could have ahd him for nothing more than assuming his contract.
the way the fans feel about the prospects like Millidge, we probably would have been screaming that Manny makes too much and is too strange to trade a huge star like Millidge for. Memo to Mets fans everywhere, If you want a star, you have to give something up.
Sign some high end guys, hype the hell out of them and move them before they are exposed.
In thinking about this, what Francessa said doesn’t even make sense. Omar reportedly made it clear form the get-go that Reyes was off the table. So if you’re the twins and don’t like anything else, you don’t keep submitting an offer with the same untouchable player. It’s a waste of time. You simply say there isn’t a match right now and move on. Smith isn’t stupid. Why would he keep submitting a proposal that included the same untouchable? Makes zero sense.
Exactly and also you would think if the Twins kept asking for Reyes, the Mets would say that they are out of the running for Santana, like the Yankees did. Also Minaya thinks that he still has a good shot at getting Santana without Reyes. Why would he say this if the Twins kept asking for Reyes? The only reason I can think of is maybe he said it just so us fans think that at least we tried to get Santana.
I agree, I think it could be a PR move, and a very smart one at that. He knows how ridiculous it would be to give a pitcher 7 years at 20 mil per gaurunteed, even for Santana. To do this on top of losing one of your best players, or your whole farm system, it outrageous, however most people who root for NY teams are really to ignorant to realize how stupid it would be to go through with this trade for Santana, for any team. It would be stupid to sign him to that contract even if we didnt give up one guy. People just say its Santana!!!! Give up anything in the world for him and we will then pay him for his past! They dont really understand baseball, which is why it is so amusing when I read their whiney little rants everyday about how Mets management doesnt know what theyre doing. I would have loved to see what was being said during the Duquette and Phillips days.
but if you say you have a good shot and you dont get him you look even worse bc then we say “what the heck happened omar you said you could get him”. i think the reason omar said that is bc hes a moron and has already proven his track record of misjudging markets (relievers and zito last year)
“but if you say you have a good shot and you dont get him you look even worse bc then we say “what the heck happened omar you said you could get him”. i think the reason omar said that is bc hes a moron and has already proven his track record of misjudging markets (relievers and zito last year)”
What an incredibly awful post. Are you saying that he misjudged the market for Zito? I was one of the people saying he should offer 4/60, and even that is too much. So now it is Omars fault that the Giants, worst organization in the NL, possibly in baseball, offered him 3 more years and like 6 million more dollars then anybody else did? You want Zito for 8 years and however many mil he makes each year? Well then go root for SF, see how he does over there, Zito is a number 3 starter, at best. Or are you upset that Chad Bradford wasnt resigned for 3 years and like 15 million. What are you complaining about. Omar got here after 2004. The mets wont 71 games in 2004. Omar took over a team that looked something like this: Piazza, Phillips, Matsui, Reyes, Wright, and then more garbage.
Less then 2 years later, they are one game away from going to the WS, if we could have gotten a run in from 3rd with less then 2 outs in one of the multiple chances we had. This year, we were good enough to be in 1st in the east for like 140 games, in 1st in the NL for most of the year also, and just went through a bad stretch at the worst possible time. I absolutely love the completely ignorant fools who bash Omar, because only a completely ignorant fool would do that. As a mets fan all my life, I finally found a GM that I trust since FC left.
But to you, he is a moron, well, I dont quite no what to say. Most of this board is made up of some of the most pathetic, and weak people I have ever come across. You enjoy being unhappy and frustrated, it is like a disease, they act upset and mad when there is nothing to be mad about. It is pathetic and sickening to see such ignorance.
No moron I know could find 3/5 of a rotation and 500 innings of sub 4 era ball by giving up Kris Benson and Xavier Nady.
thats why i think francessa is full of crap
If Omar has consistently said Reyes is off the table why would Smith keep asking for him? he isnt asking for Joba and Cano from the Yankees
and why would Omar keep entertaining offers from Smith if he has said Reyes is off the table..
It makes more sense that Francessa is a blow hard yankee fan who is not thinking before he hears himself talk.
Francessa is actually fair and does a good job. I love how everybody rips him and stuff, but that means u obviously listen or watch his show. Either way, Santana is not going to be a Met, it came out today he wanted 7/140 atleast, which just will not happen. Again, Omar wont sign a free agent pitcher to a contract that big, what makes anybody think he will gut the farm system or trade Reyes and then give an offer like that?
So saying the Twins just keep asking for Reyes just softens the blows for gullible Mets fans who I’m afraid are going to have to accept that this pitching rotation is not going to be improved unless Maine and Perez continue to grow and someone like Pelfrey, Humber or Mulvey steps into a solid pitcher.
While I can understand the Livan Hernadez’s or the Carlos Silva’s of the world don’t light anyone’s world on fire, it’s getting to a point where the Mets need to stop acting like the Kansas City Royals and bring a stabilizing force in, even if he’s mediocre. The pitching we currently have in our ranks is just not going to get the job done. It didn’t last year.
Well, frankly, that is the way baseball is supposed to work, and how teams become strong and stay strong.
Their young vets that are just hitting prime years step up and perform like prime time guys, and young guys that have already gotten a taste take the next step up.
To me, that is exactly how you want to team to go, so they are actually in a good position to have a stable, dominant team for years to come.
Maine or Perez could make the jump this year that Haren did 1-2 years ago, and Perez could make the jump that Bedard did 1-2 years ago. They have equivalent talent, and are about at the same place in their careers.
Pelfrey or Humber could pull a 2007 Maine this year. Or at least a 2006, and give them a solid effort at the back of the rotation.
What, IMO, won’t happen is a retread like Livan adding any value. Better off banking on Maine, Perez and Pelfrey continuing to develop, at least they have potential to be good, not guaranteed to be mediocre.
Wow, I want yoru Kool-aid.
yeah Francessa is so fair that he spends three days talking about the Mitchell report being a seminal event in baseball and when 15% of the players are yankees from his treasured world series run he fluffs it off as a non event.
Reyes for Santana straight up? That is absolutely laughable. Wtf do u mean u would only do it straight up, asopposed to what, reyes plus more for Santana? lolol. Come on you guys. 5 years of cheap Reyes is worth one fo Santana? Omar wont trade them Reyes unless Santana and Mauer come back.
I really hope that Omar is talking to other teams looking for alternative deals, and with any luck, a good one will pop up that he can’t resist.
Anything to get out of the Santana purgatory we are in!
Hmm, if the Mets make a move for another pitcher, taking them out of the Santana race (assuming they trade some required prospects), wonder if the market for him will collapse entirely?
If the Yanks and Sox are running a mutual destruction doctrine on each, and aren’t willing to up their ante, would the Twins have any leverage without the Mets in the picture?
I think if the Mets moved on say Snell, that Santana ends up staying on the Twins, and they can go after him next year as a FA
AGAIN with the Snell! You guys are like a broken record in here!!! You forgot to mention Mench or Nady in the Church platoon.
Give it a rest people..no matter how many times you repeat the same post in metsblog.com Omar Minaya is not going to read it or act on it.
I think we need to face the fact that this will drag on at least through the end of January about all the rumors of acquiring Santana or another ace for our staff. If Omar pulls the trigger on a Livan or Silva then he has shown his hand to the fans that he is not going to pursue Santana.
I say the end of January because at the beginning of the month, invoices for season tickets and ticket packages need to be paid. So the longer these rumors continue, the more tickets get sold. But if Omar opts for Livan, Colon, or Silva he is pretty much telling the fans that they are out of the running for an ace. And how many tickets do you think they would sell??
PS – Fred,Jeff, and Omar:
You still have over $1,500.00 of my money for the 2007 Post Season Tickets that I bought to see my Mets play in. Tell you what, put it towards a 7yr / 140 million contract for Santana. We all know we had to overpay for Pedro and Beltran just to get back some credibility in this organization. After our lovely finish to make it into the history books, I think we need to buy some more credibility. And please keep Peterson away from him. Thanks and Happy Holidays!!
u think the twins would take mike nd the mad dog for santana
I think this was discussed above.
The Fat Slob and Angry Puppy were offered to someone for tap water and the offer was rejected.

So what exactly are the two deals Minnesota sent to the Mets in order to get Johan Santana outside of the most obvious player: Carlos Gomez. Who are the others?? Just do the friggin trade damn it!!
For Christmas, I want Johan Santana in a Met uniform!!
God bless Imus!, Too bad he turned to rev.al for help.
should have known better!
I didn’t say my crotch.
Any volunteers?
[/me takes step back]
Who do you think you are? Parcells talking to Francesa?
Betcha never seen either play, son !
Are you bongin’ before dark??
btw, I don’t want Jenkins. but he is a better hitter—
not by much— then burnitz was, not quite the fielder
or baserunner but apparently a much better teammate.–but i dont want him. if the illies do sign
him however, we need another lefty in the pen.
question OR statement?
True Dat!!
Too bad neither of these guys ever played full-seasons. Seemed like both are/were always hurt.
Thinkin’ about it however, for a few mins. it is a very
good comparison! my prob w/ bunitz is that i saw too-
much of him!–Still not to happy w/ the Church move.
now THAT was LOL funny!
+ doesn’t he look like Brett Favre’s brother?
Well, there is a reason DBs aren’t WRs!
Only thing is, I don’t think JJs arm is that great so
maybe no Favre-like chucks down-field.
Short-stuff only!
And if you REALLY want a challange, Go with the
Royals or Rays!

that i know of!
wow didnt expect this much of a reaction. although in my defense i never said we should get jenkins just commented on how active the phillies are trying to be to improve and how little we have done. we have no use for jenkins, but we do have use for a guy like mench, yet i hear nothing on this site or anywhere about us doing anything other than try to pull off a miracle with santana.
Wow, sports reporters/casters have been wrong. Big deal. Guys like Olney, Gammons, and Heyman are probably wrong 10 times a week. It’s not like Francessa’s just making stuff up. He’s just passing along what he hears.
And you don’t ever make false statements during the course of your day? Don’t give the “BUT IT’S THEIR JOB!!!” excuse either. Their job is to BS about sports all day long like I do with my buddy over AIM.
Except when Michael Kay compares caller’s opinions of his opions as “Nazi Germany” but whatever.
