Personally, I think you sign him and you shouldn't even have to think about it all that long. If you can get him for a 3 year contract, that is not really that much different than spending the time and money on a younger pitcher pitcher who you don't know what you'll get out of.

We are a contender, we are a big market club, the potential upside is incredible. I say he is more than worth a flyer.

In fact, I'm going to call Omar Minaya right now...

My daughter has better attachments in her arm then Prior. Not in favor of this pipe dream. The Cubs know that he is done so should the rest of baseball.

El Duque can slide into a long relief role with minimal action to keep him healthy while Prior can start until he gets hurt. Then just slide Eld Duque to cover for Prior while he rehabs.

Managing the inevitable.

a one year deal with incentives is what the other 10 teams will also offer prior, and he is from the west coast and would likely prefer warm weather and less media.

Give him 2, or even 3 years. His value is likely to be higher in year 2 and 3 anyway. Also, with no incentives, he can take his sweet ass time in rehab and not rush for money and incentive purposes, which will be good for his long-term value and also may play a part in his decision to come here.

I hate this censor. Maybe I should spew hatred and idiocy instead of trying to craft long, thought out, and hopefully reasonable posts. maybe that way I get them through!

Either that or find a blog that actaully acepts them.

This is an absolute no brainer to me- make him an offer he can't refuse. If he doesn't want to play in New York that is one thing, but if its a matter of an extra year or another few million, just make it happen.

If you look at the pitching market, it is obvious that something has to give. It cannot be decided that almost every single major league pitcher isn't worth the money. At a certain point, this rotation will need to be filled out. If you are looking for players that are below market value, maybe Prior is our man.

Sign him to a 2 year, $10 million deal. We saved $5 million from Mota. Prior could easily be the bargin of the year, and if he's not, just drop him. We are the New York Mets, and we need to start acting like a NY team. Luckily, we can afford to make mistakes that other teams cannot.

You cannot charge NY prices while avoiding medium risk-high reward options such as these. Prior needs to be pursued and locked up before the offers start pouring in.

Yes I do. You see in an offseason like this one, our only advantage is money for the "has been" talents I mentioned above. They are risks...all of them including Silva. Dotel, Colon and Prior are the obvious health risk....Silva is a talent risk and will take more years to get.

But the rewards outweigh the risks.

Also...as to whether or not they would come to NY....please. Dont start telling me that we will not be able to attract teams by paying them. We were after all just 1 game removed from being NL East champs 2 years running.

Did you notice the comments from Schneider and Church about coming to NY? Something like thank god I am finally going to a team with a chance to win.

Paying the money, providing the contract length and being NY with a chance to win are all major attractions.

Go get er done OMAR
