If you scroll down to Santana it indicates he has a full no trade clause only if he finishes in the top 3 in CY Young voting in 06 or 07. Not sure if he finished that high in 06.

one of heilman's major problems when he was a starter was in the mastering his fastball. he could not locate it. pelfrey may still come around. humber looks like he has no velocity, although when I saw him last year he had been sitting for a month. It is hard to maintain velocity when you sit around. hard throwers have to throw in games.

agreed !

I see many holes in the way the Mets have identified, tracked, protected and elevated prospects.

the failure to protect Jesús Flores still burns me.

THey need pitching. They need pitchers with the potential to be a stud. They should have money.

So, signing guys like this makes sense. For the toads, 1 year deals. For prior, if they can get him for 2 years at 8 million guaranteed, DO IT NOW!

Silva for 4/40 I don't like. How about 2/20 + option years? Doesn't seem like anyone else has offered him 4 years, or he would have signed.

Prior is the perfect guy to sign. 10 years younger than Colon with way better stuff, and real potential.

ANd, it is only risking money. Keep the farm, and if you get stuck with a couple of dead contracts, well, eat the money.

I could live with Pedro/Maine/Perez/Duque as the top 4 to start, with # 5 coming from the kids (Pelfrey/Humber), the dark horse (Heilman), or the unknown signee (Benson, Silva).

THen, in reserve, you could have prior getting ready, and the other kids (pelf/Humber/Mulvey) working on their stuff in AAa or the pen. Plus any other reclamation projects you land.

Maybe not quite the ace everyone wants, but it is a way to get a viable, and potentially very good, rotation while still having depth in the system (for call ups, or future trades).

I couldn't agree more. Are there question marks in that rotation? Sure. But most Mets fans and the media seem to take Maine and Perez for granted. Could they have worse years than they did in 2007? Sure. But could they continue to grow and, perhaps, have an even better year? Absolutely. As it stands now, I am very comfortable with the rotation.

The only thing that bothers is what the Mets will do when El Duque gets hurt. He carried the staff through July of 2007, but of course he can't be relied on to be healthy all season. Hopefully someone on the farm can step it up when he goes down.

I hear ya Chris but in minor defense of Omars draft accumen....we have not had a 1st round pick in either year and the guys who he has picked are climbing up our own top 10 rankings. Mulvey and Kunz and Vineyard and Niese and Purcell are all young and yet they all appear on the Baseball America METS SPECIFIC top 10 list. None populate their top 100 prospects in the game list like FMart and Gomez and Guerra do...though Humber and Pelfrey both did as late as last year

that doesnt mean anything that could just mean instead of drafting relievers theyll draft starters or OFers or more IFers. wilpon is never going to flex the financial muscles. and now its not only affecting our ability to sign FA like in the past with vlad and arod but its also hurting our ability to trade as well.
