I'm pretty sure that Omar and his team are acutely aware of how important getting a name front line pitcher after last season debacle is to the team/fan base/sny/citi field. He probably doesn't want to come off in panic mode to the other teams, but likely is just that.......

according to Jon Heyman he says the Yankees will get Santana by Hank Steinbrenner overuling Cashman again, who doesn’t want to give up Hughes and wants to save the money, and the Yanks will get him with a package including Hughes, Cabrera, Jeff Marquez, and another pitching prospect..he did note not to count the Red Sox or Mets out of it while the Red Sox are waiting for a team to bend n give them wat they want

Good comments today. I think the Sox and Yanks both have bloated salaries and are in this to keep the other out. I agree that we have to face that the Mets many not have enough to get the job done. There is a good possibility then that the Twins keep Santana and let him go at the end of next season. Then I think the Mets have an excellent chance to sign him in the 7 year 150 million range without giving up our farm system or at least keeping them for trades the following
year. So we will have to be fighters and lucky this year and see if the Mets can get it done in 2008. I'm OK with that. BUT that does not mean that Omar did a bad job. He has been in it up to the end and he just doesn't seem to have enough chips. He didn't stink last year.....Pelfry and Humber and Milledge did. In Omar I (still) trust.

I wish he would sell the team!! How he can put Minaya in front of the fans as the face of the Mets disgusts me. They are not MY METS anymore. Just some Third World baseball team that because of Minaya plays in New York!

it is the job of management, namely Omar Minaya to correlate timing with player development and overall performance. It is DEFINITELY THE FAULT OF THE METS FOR THS SHAPE THEY ARE IN!!!

Its amazing. People think Guerra, Humber, Mulvey, are big chances because they might not amount to much. May never reach their potential. Yet some say they were against the Kazmir trade from the start. Kazmir was only 9 - 12 in the minors, barely 2 years of professional ball. All he was was potential, no greater than Guerra's. Yet theres no problem in getting rid of him. So I guess a few years from now people will say they were against his trade from the start as well.
