the 33rd pick is the first overall of the supplimental round, does this mean that glavine is the highest rated free agent out there using that wierd power formula? I would have thought that a number of people would have been rated better. Either way 3 draft picks in the top 33 combined with an insane amount of international signings actually gives me hope that this franchise is using some of its finacial might for a change. I mean for christ sake we are the second most valuable franchise in baseball.

I just heard a rumor that Wilpon and Omar exhumed the corpse of Cy Young and are currently working on a reanimation project to have him fill the 5th spot in the rotation. Reports are sketchy as to whether or not he is, in fact, younger than El Duque.

Now that D'backs have Haren, and if Bedard, Blanton both come to NL, we will need Santana just to contend. Keeping status quo while other NL teams become stronger is not the way to go into 2008. (btw, with all those good pitchers leaving AL, offense stats will soar!)

The Mets, last year, had an exceptional April and May. After that, they were a sub- .500 team that couldn't win when they needed to most. The reason is that they were reliant on old, broken down parts. This team is the same team that could not win down the stretch. Why do you think that they are contenders? Our rotation is a C+ at best, and that is assuming a healthy Pedro and El Duque. Maine was great at the start and then faded fast. Save for the day before THE END. I do not trust this rotation as constructed for the season. As for the hitting, 4/9 of our line-up is Schnieder/Church/Pitcher/Delgado. Reyes, while a valuable piece of the puzzle, disappeared last season. That leaves Castillo (who can't run), Beltran, Alou, and Wright to produce on this team. Beltran, as good of a glove as he is, is a .270 batter with 30HR potential. Wright is also a great 30/30 guy, but we are facings Utley/Howard/Rollins. I would say, as constructed that our line-up is a B. This doesn't sound like a team "built to win it all now". In fact, it looks like a team that is happy to contend and come up short.. again. Well, at least they didn't raise our ticket prices while they "rebuild".. oh wait.

it's hard to understand b/c people watched the team during the last two months of last season. i was positive all year only to see the pitching fall apart at the end.

signing a bunch of risks is not smart coming off of last year's collapse. colon, prior, lohse are far from being a sure thing or even a likely thing.

the bullpen is better just for getting rid of sele and mota, but it hasn't been improved much beyond that.

bottomline: the mets have not added a good (not expecting great) starter or reliever to this team and likely won't. the line-up is good, but not better than the phils or braves.

the mets are one of 10 nl teams with an equal shot at winning the nl. not bad, but far from the feeling during the 2006 season.

Funny thing is, I am on this blog during the off season only for the most part...during the regular season I just watch the games. I usually start checking in again around the trade deadline.
