If we get fat Blanton, Livan, or Wells can we hire Fitness Celebrity John Basedow to get them back in shape?

I was going to say that the Phillies would be better off with the supplimental pick and using a kid starter than signing Loshe.

4 years and 40 mil for a guy that isnt even a type B free agent? Loshe has be kidding right?

(If he insists on saying his name that way then thats the way I'm going to spell it, just like Brett Farve... )

yes, one of the biggest keys to 2008 will be whether or not Maine and/or Perez can make the jump from being a developing #3 starter who can make 27-30 starter, up to a solid #2 who can make 33-35 starts. If they can do that and not wear down like last season (recall that Perez got a DL break because of his 'tired' back just like Duque does) then the Mets lack of an ace will be ok. If they dupilicant last years IP then it will be a rough and haggard rotation and bullpen by Sept 1st yet again.

The Mets arent near 120 mil yet.

The 14 signed contracts on the books are in the 95-99 mil range.

Oliver Perez and Jorge Sosa may get a decent payday through arbitration, even with thier awful 2006 numbers, but the rest of the Mets younger arbitration players are likely to get somewhere less than 1.5 mil, and a number of them will be renewed at around 0.4 mil.

This would put them somewhere in the 110-115 range, with room to spare to sign a starter or two to a deal.

My guess would be that the Mets are currently trying to save room to pay Santana 20m/y while still financing a stadium out of the profits of the organization.

he also saw his workload nearly double- he threw 140 innings in 2006, with 90 of those in the majors. This season, 191 innings in the majors. He'll build on the improvements he made to his stamina this season, and most importantly, his focus should improve-- as we saw from his last starts in 2006 and 2007, he can always reach back and pull something together for a "must-win" game; it's a matter, for him, of pitching well in games when the Mets' backs aren't against the wall.

Blanton is not that good. His BAA two years back was over 300, and last year it wasnt too low.

What are you talking about - Maine looked exhausted down the stretch for the last two seasons. Last year he he saw his ERA rise nearly 2 points.

Victor Zambrano would get 3 years // 21 million in this market. 4/40 for a real pitcher. Santana, if he signs with the Yankee's is going to get 6 years / 180 million....Ridiculous, but true
