Watch: 1980s Mets YouTube Clips
By Matthew Cerrone - Dec 31, 2007 12:05 pm

…i was cleaning out a closet over the weekend and found an old video tape from my childhood that featured a bunch of Mets highlights through the mid-1980s…great stuff…it’s very sporadic and random, but entertaining nevertheless…

…so, i did some additional searching on YouTube and found the following clips…hope they bring back a few memories for you, as they did for me

The following is an ad that ran on WOR aiming to promote the 1985 Mets, saying, “Catch the Rising Stars.”

The following is a Ch.9 introduction from 1986 by Kiner and McCarver, prior to the Mets winning the NL East.

The following is another preview to the 1985 Season.

…yes, i’m eager for this next season to start…can you tell

    Priceless!

It’s like the opening roll to an 80’s sitcom.

I’d like to find a clip of Jim Leyland sitting on the bench at Three Rivers Stadium, legs crossed, smoking a butt.

I think “Catch the Rising Stars” might possibly be the worst song ever written.

I’m looking for the Mets spring training intro where they open a crate of oranges. And the commerical for the “Bring it home, Mets” theme.

What ever happened to Steve Zabreski? He was a solid announcer that just disappeared.

Are there any video’s of Darryl and Keith kicking each other’s butt in spring training back in I think 87?

Thanks for posting those great clips Matt. Nothing like a Mets game coming on right after the Jokers Wild. The Great 80s live on!

it always strikes me how skinny players were back in those days .. I guess that’s the difference in the drugs of choice then vs now…

I recently moved and found a box with my old starting lineup figures in it .. I’ve got Doc, Straw, Mex, and the Kid, pretty much mint condition .. ahhh takes me back :)
