I really can't believe that there are so many posts about not signing Colon. Believe me I am just as upset as anyone with the lack of activity this off season, but getting upset about an over weight, injury prone pitcher who most likely is demanding more than he's worth is nonsense.

Let's be real there were very few, if any, pitcher to take a chance on. With the rotation as is right this moment Colon would not help and maybe set it a back a bit.

1)Pedro, 2)Maine, 3)Ollie, 4)Duque & 5)Pelfrey/Humber/Mulvey.

By signing a guy like Colon would mean that one of the kids would be in AAA and not seeing what he's got. Or moving Duque to the pen which I can't see him agreeing to and then requesting a trade and the whole back page b.s.

I would rather start the season with what we have as opposed to having Colon, Silva, Prior, etc. However the one guy I would sign now is Garcia since he wouldnt be ready til mid-season and at which point it would like a mid season signing or set up for a deadline trade.

Also I would be a bit careful on trading too many pitching prospects for Johan. Pedro may not pitch past '08/'09, Duque shouldn't pitch past '08, so there'll be a need for a pitcher (or two) and the way market has been its almost better to grow them through the farm. I'd love to see Johan pitch w/the mets but worried about '09 +

I hear what you're saying. But if he proves himself to be the Bartolo Colon of old, then it IS fiscally sound - you'd be getting a Cy Young winner for the cost of Carlos Silva. If he doesn't, you've wasted $8 million (the cost of two seasons of Jose Valentin) on a one-year gamble that, to me, seems very worthwhile.

wow, so glad there are actually intelligent, positive Mets fans out there. I used to love visiting this site and having intelligent conversations with Mets fans, but ever since the collapse, it seems like all the good fans have left and have been replaced by bitter, negative and extremely annoying "fans." Maybe when the season starts up again, and the Mets exceed everyone's expectations the good people will start coming back to this site.

the sad thing is, that awful translation is still better English than about 10% of the people who post on here can manage (and better than about 85% of people who post on ESPN.com)

how can you call Islanders fans impatient? Our goalie got signed to a 74 year contract, and we're hoping by the end of it he might get us back to the second round of the playoffs! That's the definition of patience...
