News: Minor-League Mini-Camp
By Matthew Cerrone - Jan 3, 2008 7:28 am

from what i can gather, the Mets will hold a minor-league mini-camp in Port St. Lucie during the final two weeks of January…no major-league or ‘minor-league players of note,’ will be at the camp, nor will any media be covering it

a prediction: Even though no one “of note” is being invited, at least one of the unknowns will end up being a star in the majors someday.

Just because that is the nature of the minors and young prospects. Sure things flame out, and nobodies (think Piazza, even Santana) suddenly develop into big time players.

So, today’s question is…If a mini camp is held and there is no media coverage, did it really take place?

  3. Steve Camas says:

The Fantasy Camp will be using the facility from the 15th to the 26th so something’s wrong here. They could be starting some sort of mini camp on the 27th but then it would be, for the most part, going on in February.

You just walked into this one…

The Mets minor leagues are so thin that the upcoming Mets Fantasy Camp, featuring the likes of Dr. Larry Fishbein, DDS of Bayside and Bruce Moskowitz, Esq. of New Rochelle, is now being considered a minor league mini-camp! Omar hopes to uncover at least one hidden gem that he can slot into the rotation or back-end of the bullpen. Omar is nothing but crafty.

Omar will overpay as well as lose the negotiation and give them the 4th year.

I will be at the Fantasy Camp this year. I throw a slider, curveball, a changeup, and, of course, the two and four seam fastballs. My fastball tops out at around 68 MPH — Think I can impress the scouts? I mean I fit perfectly on the Met’s pitching staff — I’m 44 and have bone spur issues….

I hear Desi Relaford will be a guest at this year’s camp.

Is this a sign that they will not be trading for Santana? Because, if they do trade for him, they won’t have enough minor league players remaining to hold a mini-camp. Do I hear “open tryout”?

I will also be at the camp. I am the perfect set up man for Billy, and ready to take his spot in 09. I am 29, 220 lbs, with strength for just one inning. However my pitches are unlike one has ever seen. I throw a 4 seamer that tops out at 100-101 mph, with a wicked, mc hammer like dancing knuckleball in the 55-60mph range. I am unhittable.
I am also a reigning 3 time MVP in MLB the SHOW 2007. So naturally I deserve an MLB contract
