According to the Washington Post, Nationals 1B Nick Johnson recently told reporters that intends to be ready for Opening Day.
Johnson missed all of 2007 with a broken leg. He will earn $5.5 million each of the next two seasons, after which he is eligible to be a free agent.
In 147 games in 2006 for the Nationals, Johnson hit .290 with 23 HR and 77 RBI, while walking 110 times in 500 at-bats.

If he is ready… It will funny to see Dmitri in the OF.
be* funny
nick > delgado
holy crap, you posted something NOT about AROD!!!! WOW

nick johnson’s best season is slightly better than delgado’s worst season.
Trade Millz next year for Nick when Delgado is done…oh, wait..
Couldn’t resist.
that collision was nassssty
could hear the bone snap from the mezz box
Was there for his collision and (somewhat callously, I regret) took pictures of him on the ground. Good for him finally coming back. Delgado for Johnson, straight up?
Nats are going to be pretty good next year.
I’m not sure, but doesn’t a team need a pitching staff to be good?
Jon Rauch lead the team in wins. Out of the ‘pen. (Wish we could get him!)
Nice little offensive group, so-so starting pitching, pretty good pen. Sound familiar?
…and don’t forget, they open the season in a new park with more hitter friendly dimensions than RFK. Then again, the same can be said of most parks.
pretty good ???
HOW?!?!
Have you seen their pitching ?
I just love it how OUR fans complain about how bad the Mets are right now…while constantly overestimating how good other MIGHT be.
One thing for certain…not too many people will want to mess around with an outfield of Elijah Dukes, D. Young and Edge.
They should change their name to the Washington Jerks.
Millz, Nick Johnson, and who?
to be fair, the have Zimmerman, D. Young, LoDuca and Felipe Lopez/Willy Mo Pena both of which I would gladly swap for Castilla/Church
Zimm and Young are good players, true. Lopez and Pena ain’t bad, either, but I think I’d rather have Castilla and Church.
Well, with Nick Johnson, his being ready for opening day just means he’ll be available to be injured earlier in the season.
Here in DC a lot of the gNat fans complain that Johnson’s always complaining about injuries….
I know all about Nick Johnson and his complaining, I used to live in Bethesda. He’s tissue paper.
I like Johnson. Good bat great glove. He would be a good option in the post Delgado era assuming the Mets fail to land a guy like Texiera.
HE CAN’T STAY ON THE FIELD!
four year deal!!!
