Man, you read pretty deep into that "heritage" stuff. I do theink they are penny wide and pound foolish however. I couldn't care less what their race/religion/etc. are, I, frankly, would love to see them spend, spend, spend. It's the way of the world! That's why we have credit!

his "restraint" might cost us the NL east when cole hammels wins 20 games with dominating performances deep in a penant race .... while our ACE pedro, is battling and scraping to get thru 6......
i understand your overall point .... i hate people who say wilpon is cheap, bcuz we are in the top 5 payrolls in the league ...... but we all know this team can probably afford another 20mill on the books..
i dont think hes cheap, but i do think he needs a reminder from time to time that we are a large market, high revenue team...... one more move .. get us johannnnnnnnnn lol
ALSO ..... look at what the sox gave up to get becket ....will gomez or martinez ever be as good as Hanley Ramirez ... need to take the chance

OK Boys and girls......time for a little sanity break !!

Omar can't necessarily pull off the "Big Deal" so far this off-season because, unlike the retired "Boss" across town did in the late 70's early 80's, he is not going to gut any and all young talent we have just to have the biggest shiniest toy in the shop. He is waiting Minnesota out (as are the Sox and the Yanks) to try to get this player with a more reasonable package. That is called "restraint".....a few of you should try to exercise some of this when you post ! There is also the issue of the lack of FA TALENT being available this off-season. And for those screaming about signing Bartolo Colon....if he wants a guaranteed 2 year deal then let someone else take that chance....we do not need to tie up a rotation spot with a guy who has always battled weight problems and is coming off an injury (and remember....just because he is pitching well in whatever league he is currently throwing in does not mean that this will translate to success in the Majors). I agree that if he is willing to take a 1 year deal then maybe we overpay for him a bit....that would be worth the risk.

Mr. Wilpon is spending a LARGE amount of money not only on the current team, but also to replace that hole the Mets have played in since the 60's. Will it end up costing us, the fans, more....of course. Will I (and many of you) continue to pony up....of course. Again, showing restraint when it comes to paying a STARTING PITCHER a record amount of money and being held to a 7 YEAR contract is wise on two points......1) Allocating a LARGE chunk of payroll to a player who is on the field only once every 5 days 2) Allocating a LARGE chunk of payroll to a player at a position that history shows us is susceptible to injuries that can at times take more than a year to recover from (see Tommy John).

And as long as I am pontificating, let me offer this in defense of Matt Cerrone..............anyone who is tired of hearing about Johan Santana.....DON'T READ THAT PARTICULAR THREAD !!!!!
I would prefer to peruse any snippets, opinions, rumors, viewpoints, comments, theories or ramblings I can find at this time of year as opposed to letting my imagination just run wild. I want to hear what "a respected GM", "a media source", "a person close to the team", "an insider", "someone on the Citifield construction crew" or "Keith Hernandez's housekeeper" has to say on the subject......I find these things entertaining ! Thank you Matt, for finding anything to get me through to Pitchers & Catchers !

With that said........LET'S GO METS !!!!!!

We now return you to your regularly scheduled ramblings and insanity ! :-)

wang (not an ace)
its all about getting "that guy"

Dude.......go find another team to root for if you are so down on this one. I don't think you've had one positive thing to say regarding any part of this franchise since you started posting here. And as far as you speaking for "us all", let me clarify.......

The views expressed by firemetmanagement are his alone and are not endorsed by the NY Mets, Metsblog, Matthew Cerrone, real Mets fans, Mr. Met or Keith Hernandez's mustache.
