Note: Colon not hitting 90-mph
By Matthew Cerrone - Jan 4, 2008 3:49 pm

Earlier this week, Impacto Deportivo wrote that the Royals may be close to signing free-agent RHP Bartolo Colon.

However, today, Impacto Deportivo writes that, despite his streak of two to three good outings in the Winter League, Colon has yet to reach 90–mph with this fastball.

The online newspaper speculates that he may not be entirely healthy, or that he is holding back in fear of getting hurt, and so clubs may be waiting to see a few more starts before seriously considering whether to sign him.

…thanks to Jorge from Puerto Rico for the translation

Guess he is either shot or hurt. And we don’t need either of those adjectives describing another SP of ours, so hopefully Omar takes a pass…

Maybe the Hot Stove tonight will update the Colon to the Mets rumors. I would have posted this under that heading, but the comments section was closed. I guess that would have turned into a Randolph comment section and that is not allowed here. I can’t wait to here him call Schneider and Church “his guys” for the first time on SNY.

If Colon was in the movie “Summer Rental”, he could definitely down the ‘Ol 96er.

For those of you who never saw that one. It’s a classic John Candy movie. He eats a 96 ounce steak….in one sitting.

it is sickening that he won that cy young over santana. compare their numbers for two seconds and realize how stupid the voters are. rivera deserved it over him too. an absolute disgrace.

Fat people have feelings too. They shoudn’t however, garner any multi-year deals from a team trying to contend. I would still be open to a ST tryout with a boatload of incentives. Offer him the Chan Ho Park deal from last year and walk away if it’s not enough.

Some club needs to put him on the Chris Carpenter plan…

get the friggen surgery he obviously needs (toss in gastric by pass while you’re at it).. and reep the rewards for year two in an incentive type deal..

oh…what now Matt. Did you strike a deal with a Puerto Rico media outlet too?

Geez, and I thought that this information that I get for free, everyday for the past 4 years, wasn’t going to be tainted by your affiliations with mainstream media. And how can you count on Jorge to translate that properly? I know Jorge…he’s a prick.

(sarcasm intended…I just thought way to many posts have been made without one attacking Matt for something)

By the looks of it thats what omar is doing this offseason. Just make a move already. I suggest trading for Street and Blanton by giving them everyone but F-mart

That’s stupid. If you’re willing to give everything but Martinez up, get the best pitcher in baseball.

ur getting a very good pitcher, a proven two that leaves spending room to sign santana at the end of the year as well as a guy who can be the best setup-man in baseball

Blanton is a 3 at best. Street would be a good option but he’s been injury prone. Plus Beane would want our whole farm for just one of them.

I made a comment asking whether we’d see Willie “sipping champagne” on his upcoming appearance on Mets Hot Stove earlier, but the patsies/ morons that run this site deleted it. Censorship sucks. What is this, the MSG network? I have every right to get on our dispassionate buffoon of a “manager.” Stop deleting my sh*t.

From Rotoworld:

Hank Steinbrenner said Friday that he’s “leaning towards doing” a Johan Santana trade with the Twins.

Get it over with then. “Nothing is really decided at this point,” Steinbrenner blabbed. “I’m still leaning towards doing it. There’s others leaning not to do it. There are some others that are leaning to do it also. Disagreements within the organization. Nothing major, but just different opinions. I’ve changed my opinion a couple times.” Steinbrenner made it perfectly clear that it’s his call. “I always told (GM Brian Cashman”, ‘I’m going to make the final decisions because when you’re the owner you should.’ He is the general manager, and he has the right to talk me out of it and he has talked me out of some things.”

They stay in the condo’s in PGA Village. You can often run into them at the local restaurants at night. There isn’t a whole lot to do in PSL, so if you head to chilli’s, the outback, or fridays you can usually run into a few of them.

See. And you Omar haters out there criticized him for NOT signing Colon who is clearly damaged goods and who obviously doesn’t have the focus or desire to do the work required to get him back to something close to what he used to be.

You can stick a fork in that porker.

Impacto Deportivo is reporting that Colon is out for Saturday’s game due to neck problems, and speculation is that it may be something serious. Omar should keep his distance.
