H IMFM, yes, what you say is quite true - thanks for your perspective. I do have respect also for Delgado and do hope that I can keep it. I expect that I will, it's just that unfortunately because of the bad actions of some, until proven otherwise, every single MLB and minor league player is not a suspect, but is on my "watch list". This is not any reflection on Delgado, but more a reflection on my changed attitude at present towards the game, which I believe is important since we don't know who is clean and who isn't. I know it sounds like McCarthyism, but it isn't. Nobody's guilty, but I do think that everybody needs to be put on noticed and watched.

Cver you have lost hope since September faster than Giambi has declined in hatsize. And with good reason. Maybe it is dismaying for us fans to read about players losing focus, but we can't really fault them for remaining human in the event that they do.Well, we can kind of half-fault them like you do.
I love Delgado as a player/human. Delgado is still a stand up guy to me--he is far from the Mike Hampton category--using the family excuse of "school systems" to cover his greed--or the Tomahawk Glavine level--chosing money over loyalty and pretending it's all about family. I hope "Carlost and Found" has an amazing comeback year and can turn on fastballs again, but if he is in decline, I expect him to bow out gracefully. These days that's the most you can ask.

While I do appreciate his truly realistic and proper perspective on life and baseball being a small part of it, I wish he sounded at least metephorically more like he lived and died for baseball. Yeah we only need stuff like oxygen, but he makes baseball sound too unimportant. Many players come from a very poor background and realize that the only way their family will be able to get out of shanty town, get surgery, etc. is for them to become sports superstars. Then, they get their big contracts and they and their families are set - then what? Then, they can concentrate on what was important - and should be important - to them all along - their loved ones. Don't get me wrong, it's a proper perspective, but it feels kind of dirty too. I feel used as a fan when I hear about this stuff. I'm not saying that this is Delgado - I can't know that - but when I read some of his comments, I get reminded of this stuff. Hey, if he hit 50 HRs last season and we won the WS, this wouldn't even come up. I'm gonna try and be fair here and not classify Delgado in this way, since there is no indication of this. But, I do think that these cases exist.

This sounds good in theory, but, while he made adjustments to hit the ball the other way more in the 2nd half, he was still being beat by fastballs in until the closing day of the season. I really hope he shocks me, but I think the smart money is on the fact that he's peaked and has just lost that split-second of reaction time that turns a great hitter into a mediocre one. I would expect at best to see .250, 20, 90 out of him next year. Not horrible, but certainly not a middle-of-the-order threat anymore.

I agree until the last paragraph. There is no way that Milledge could have been successful in the 2 spot this year for NY. Castillo is not a weak link in the lineup at all as long as he is hitting #2. He does everything we want a #2 hitter to do. If Lineups were based on who hits the most home runs then Beltran would lead off followed by Wright, Alou and Delgado. That's not how it works and especially not in the NL.
Remember how great it was in 06 for Reyes and Loduca to be on their game, that is what I picture for Reyes and Castillo this year only Castillo when he gets on can get around the bases much quicker than Lo duca.
