Buzz: Colon is MIA
By Matthew Cerrone - Jan 7, 2008 8:47 am

According to MLB Trade Rumors, free-agent RHP Bartolo Colon has missed his last two starts while pitching in the Dominican Winter League.

Last week, a report by Impacto Deportivo noted that the Royals might have been close to signing Colon.

However, it also speculated that Colon may not be entirely healthy, since he has yet to hit 90 mph, and so clubs may be waiting to see a few more starts before seriously considering whether to sign him.

Check the Buffet line, he’s probably on his 5th plate by now!

Maybe he was kidnapped and taken to Israel?

Man, if there was ever a guy with red flags up saying stay away, it is this dude.

He is now been reduced to the ST invite level.

Matt Morris isn’t looking too bad right about now. Try to get him cheap, chip wise (pick up the salary).

Only a 1 year deal. And with the seeming pitching shortage, by ST, you might be able to flip him for real prospects if some team gets desperate enough, and he is deemed expendable.

If we can somehow workout a Morris/Nady trade, where it does not rape us, I am all for it. Morris becomes our #5 and Nady becomes our RH platoon in RF/backup at 1B.

I’m with you. If Omar can’t pry Snell/Nady away, go with Morris instead. It fills a hole.

I still think they should have signed Mench already. He sounds like a perfect RH 1B/OF type. I guess we got Pagan instead.

There has been way too much Matt Morris talk on this blog… He is below a last resort, they might as well invite Lima Time back instead…

If only it was the NBA and they could just release him right after trading for him and Nady… But you cant do that if you give up prospects.

Delgado and Muniz for Nady, Morris, and a prospect? Now you might have my attention. A mutual salary dump at the cost of no prospects. Only way I can see taking on Morris.

I am not ready to give up Delgado. I think he will have a pretty good year because he is healthier and this is his walk year. Pittsburgh would never trade for him… They have no shot of winning this year.

It would have to be a fair money swap, Pittsburg isnt looking to add payroll or win this year (or any year)

They could turn around and trade Delgado to the Giants for more pitching prospects. He’s movable if the Mets are picking up 3-4 mil of his deal.

..its not likely, but its managable for both teams.

That trade doesn’t help the mets. Delgado is a better hitter then nady and morris has never had an era less then 4

I disagree to and extent. Morris in the 5 spot does not impact our search for a #1 and only cost money. Same reason not to just dump Delgado as he only cost money. If Nady and Morris can be had for prospects that will not be needed in a Santana or Blanton trade then why not?

Delgado also costs you production. If the idea is to bring in Nady to sit on the bench while Delgado plays 150 games at 1B then I would just as well have Angel Pagan back up Church. But if they bring in Nady to be the primary 1B (with Marlon as the backup) then I like the move much more.

If Delgado is still there then he costs you most of Nady’s production.

“so clubs may be waiting to see a few more starts before seriously considering whether to sign him.”

so he goes home for the holidays and misses two starts… brilliant!!

if he actually couldnt pitch due to injury then he isnt worth more than an invite to ST.

Pelfrey, Humber, Mulvey, FMart, Carlos Gomez, and Heilman for Matt Morris. You heard it here first.

How about Delgado to San Fran. for Cain or Lincecum?

Thats what I’ve been saying. Delgado and a few prospects for cain or lowry.
I’d still rather keep delgado and pull the trigger for blanton on Gomez, molvey and pelfrey. If they can get street in on the deal then the mets can add heilman also

I wouldn’t do Pelfrey, i have a feeling he just might turn it around. He was rushed and he has “ACE” potential.

Could have done it a year ago, but Delgado’s value is no where near that now. Doesnt really seem to matter though, Omar seems inclined to stick with him as the 1B regardless.

San fran is desperate for a bat. They will trade just about ANYONE on their roster for a hitter. I would go for Lincecum if i could. Delgado has a history as a feared hitter, they would go for it.

If thats the case where do you plan on finding a 1B to replace Delgado?

Nady can be that guy, but the Giants dont have anyone to offer to fill that need.
