Buzz: Braves Interested in Kotsay
By Matthew Cerrone - Jan 9, 2008 4:48 pm

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the Braves have contacted the A’s regarding OF Mark Kotsay.

In just 56 games for Oakland last season, the 32–year-old Kotsay hit .214 with 15 extra base hits.

Kotsay missed the final 106 games last season due to back pain.

He will earn $8 million next season, after which he is eligible to be a free agent.

why do i have a feeling he’d put up 285/25+/90 on the braves. ugh i really hate them. btw cerrone i love the ridiculous braves and yankees hats used for posts regarding those teams, nice touch.

My thought exactly. The Braves have a nack for bringing in washed up players to their organization that see to revamp their careers for a year or two while on the braves. As much as I hate to admitt it there must be something with their coaching that helps players recover…

I’d want to know who the Braves were going to send to Oakland, whether or not the Braves wanted the A’s to pay half of Kotsay’s salary or not. This is Billy Beane they’re dealing with, after all.

seriously Omar….what the heck, we could gotten Kotsay for Jae Seo and a bag of chips…fire Omar now!!!! I say kotsay and Blanton for Jorge Sosa and Anderson Hernandez….

maybe im wrong, but i dont see how kotsay’s back will ever allow him to play at a high level again. it’s a shame cos he was solid and fun to watch….i almost think billy beane would feel guilty for dumping him on somebody…that said f-the braves!

Mota, sarcasm is difficult to decipher with the written word but I have to believe you are being sarcastic. Why on earth would we want an OF with a bad back scheduled to make $8 mil this year? And while I would certainly not want the Braves to improve their team Kotsay really looks like a mistake. The guy has NEVER had more than 15 HR’s or 82 RBI. While he would be moving to an “easier” league according to some of the experts he would not get a benefit of resting that back and DH’ing.

This is a deal for the Braves more along the lines of Mike Gonzalez or Mike Hampton than Craig Wilson or Ron Mahay. Wilson should be a nice fit for that team and possibly hit those 25 and 85 #’s HTWZ fears Kotsay could hit.

I hope the Braves make this move. Spare me from worrying about them making a GOOD move.

Deal should be completed by Monday. Devine to the A’s for Kotsay and 5M.

Nice pickup if he can remain healthy.
