I dislike Tim K intensely as he is generally dismissive of the Mets all the time. In terms of his latest statements:'

1) I realize many people say the Mets need Santana the most, even some Mets fans, but I don't see how the Yankees' current rotation is any better than what the Mets have now.

2) What is this "willing to get rid of Reyes" bit? Maybe it's just an accidental use of a negative phrase, but if not then he just has no clue.

3) Yes, the Mets' slide last year was due to a lot of factors but it was not the starting pitching that was the biggest culprit. It was the bullpen, Tim K! Of course I wouldn't expect him to know much about the Mets, but he should avoid trying to look smart by giving the pat answers.

4) He never says why HE thinks the Mets won't get Santana. He only says that people around the league have told him the Mets don't have what it takes to get him. So is he just basing his opinion on what others tell him? Can't he think for himself? Or is he like some of the other Yankee worshipers who just feel there is no way the Mets can get a premium player if the Yankees want him?

Whether the Mets get Santana I don't know. It's up to both Bill Smith and Santana at this point and Smith's indecisiveness can lead to a semi-permanent stalemate. But I bet Tim K will never concede that Santana prefers to play for the Mets over the Yankees. That is inconceivable to him as well as many other baseball people and fans, even some Mets fans.

Well, Hampton hasn't been healthy in 3 years, so slim chance he's effective in 2008.

Hudson tailed off down the stretch, another pitcher Billy Beane dumped after he used him up (it's a long line, Koch, Foulke, Mulder, Hudson).

Smoltz is 42 and still decent.

We all saw how awful Glavine was down the stretch (face it Tommy you can't get by on simply nibbling the corners anymore) so he should be another poor investment by the Braves.

Jo Jo Reyes? eh!

And did you say Kotsay would be part of a solid lineup? Kotsay has awful back issues and he's been well below the league average offensively for 4 of the past 5 seasons. Like Glavine, this is more money being flushed down the toilet.

The Braves are on the downswing kids, stop being so afraid of them!!

This is what Tim K's chat said about the Mets getting Santana...

When are the Mets going to swoop in and pluck Santana away from the Twins?

Tim Kurkjian: That is a good question. To me the Mets need him even more than the Yankees need him, and much more than the Red Sox need him. But people around the game have been telling me for months that the Mets might not have what it takes to get Santana, unless they are willing to get rid of Reyes, and they are not going to do that from all indications. The Mets slide last year were due to a lot of factors, but none was bigger than their shiortage of starting pitching. I do not know where Santana is going to go, but my guess would be that it is not going to be the Mets.
