dam, that is some complete response Nate W. ... good job. On pelfrey, didn't mean that he would be down all year, but at least until all star break. Seems like Mets rush guys up levels, set them up to fail, damage confidence and prospect value all at same time. i think all those guys, pelfrey included, would benefit from having clear stretch of time where they can just let talent take them. Team would benefit by rehabbing prospect reputations if those guys, Pelfrey included, would dominate at AAA for three months.

Vargas is out of options, and would have to clear waivers to get to AAA. Which isn't all that unlikely given the year he had last year.

The problem with putting both Pelfrey and Humber at AAA most of the year (seems to be your plan) is that it is their last options years and you need to get a good sense of whether they are ready or not. Its not bad to go into ST 2009 with Humber as an unknown thats out of options, but having Pelfrey in the same spot makes it rather difficult. In 2009 Do you give 2/5 of your rotation to them, or risk losing them to a waiver claim? Then need to learn about Pelfrey on the big league level this year.

AAA: Humber, Mulvey, Bostick, Vargas, Jose Sanchez and Sal Aguilar give them a decent amount of AAA starters.

AA: Bob Parnell, Eric Brown, hopefully Niese, and roster fillers.

St. Lucie: Guerra, Tobi Stoner, and a bunch of last years Cyclones (Gee, Owen, Eric Niesen)

?? : hopefully guys like Devaney and Mike Swindell can regain themselves and join AA later in the year. (btw, what good is Devaney for Shea when the Mets will be playing at Citi Field in 2009? ;) )

I'm sure I'm missing a few, but thats about how I think it will shape up for 2008.

Lohse for 2 years/16 million total, with an option year, seems about right based on talent and performance. basically someone to fill out the back of the rotation, give them some depth, eat some innings, and give the kids a chance to develop.

Plus, not such a big commitment he wil lbe an albatross to the team.

Plus, there is always the chance he could do a Meche and finally have a career year!

Garcia on an incentive type deal though sounds intriquing. COuld be a life saver at mid year. Or just a big waste of (not my) money!

assuming no santana, i would like to see early commitment to AAA New Orleans starting rotation of Pelfrey, Humber, Mulvey and Vargas .... Burgos as closer ... and Gomez as every single day OF. Let them know that''s where they will be, period, no confusion, no distraction, at least until all star break. Either they are legit prospects, or no, but we would have better idea of what we have got.

Fill out the Mets with either Sosa or some 5th starter re-tread, and get Kevin Mench to platoon with Church in RF. Roll with this until midseason and see where we are at.

that is assuming no santana.
