I think that taking a chance on Dotel would have been worth it. He obviously didn’t turn out how the Mets originally envisioned him, but he’s got some decent stuff. It at least would have added some much-needed depth.

the mets stubborness in not even considering heilman for a starting job is an enigma to me….what the hell its worth a try at least….i really dont like him and cant even imagine forgiving him for that one pitch to yadayada but i do think starting him is worh a try…his stats come out good as a reliever but i dont trust him…

Maybe he’s asking for too much money or something. But I always thought it strange that the Mets never really considered him an option for catcher as Omar traded for Schneider (and Church) shortly after the trade for Estrada was made.

Once the Torrealba deal fell through, I thought it was good that Omar traded Mota for Estrada so quickly. But they never introduced him or made a big deal of it and then a couple of weeks later they made that trade with the Nats (and they were even willing to throw in Estrada as well, to which the Nats said ‘no thanks’). The Mets – and the other teams apparently – must have known something Estrada that we don’t.

That is odd. I guess all the ML starter jobs are now taken and he is trying to get a ML starters job. WHo knows. Maybe he can’t lift his arm above his head anymore. Sorry for the atttempt at humor Cerrone. I know its frowned upon here now

I still say though it would have made it easier to move him back into the rotation.

Hey, if Sanchez comes back healthy and Wise pitches well, Heilman still could hit that 5 hole!

Omar dropped the ball on this one. Signing Dotel would have made it much easier to deal Heilman.

Worse that Mota? At least Dotel is not a known steroid user. Mota was an ATROCIOUS signing. And Minaya acknowledged that by essentially trading him for nothing!
