News: Mets and Arbie’s Swap Salary Figures

by Matthew Cerrone on January 19th, 2008 at 8:07 am

Mets LHP Oliver Perez, and his agent Scott Boras, requested a 2008 salary of $6.5 million.

The Mets countered with a proposal of $4.7 million.

If the two sides can’t find common ground, an arbitration panel will choose one of the two figures.

MLB’s arbitration hearings will start on February 1.

i have a hard time caring about this, though i know i should…i mean, either way, perez and other arbie’s will be on the team next year no matter what happens…the only thing that remains in question is how much money they’ll earn…if i care, it’s from a Camp Happiness point of view…however, i suppose if a player believes he got screwed, it could impact how he performs

Pedro Feliciano, Ryan Church, Endy Chavez, Oliver Perez and Jorge Sosa have all submitted salary figures as well.

As has been reported quite a lot this week, a player from the Mets has not gone to arbitration since David Cone in 1992.

in all likelihood, the Mets will settle with most of these players…perez could be worth watching, though, especially since he is a free agent at the end of this coming season
