Mets pitching coach Rick Peterson will join Kevin Burkhardt during
SNY’s Mets Hot Stove on Monday night, which airs live at 6:30 pm and again at 11 pm.
…also, assuming it’s still relevant, i will have a small segment on the show as well, during which i’ll break down this week’s MetsBlog Confidence Rating, and our recent polling about Johan Santana…so, wish me luck…
Tagged SNY |The White Sox have signed RHP Octavio Dotel to a two-year, $11
million contract, according to a major-league source, reports Ken Rosenthal at FoxSports.com.
…i still don’t know how to feel about this…i’ll admit, i liked the idea of dotel potentially pitching for the Mets again, even if it was on a two-year deal…that said, it all depends on how the overall off-season plays out…i mean, no matter how i slice it up in my mind, dotel is far from a guarantee, and i can understand why he may not be worth gambling on for two full seasons…what’s more, i am always concerned about guys who have bounced from team to team, as he as…my hunch is that, avoiding him on that deal, is probably the wise move…but, time will tell…
The White Sox will be Dotel’s fifth team in five years, and the seventh team he has played with during his nine-year career.
Since 2002, pitching exclusively from the bullpen, against roughly 1,400 batters, opponents are batting .200 against Dotel, who has struck out roughly 30 percent of the hitters he has faced.
Last week, citing ‘a relative of the player,’ Impacto Deportivo reported that Dotel had reached agreement the same contract, but the report was immediately refuted by his agent.
Tagged Octavio Dotel |According to two eyewitnesses, who had recently
been in St. Lucie for Mets Fantasy Camp, Mets RHP Duaner Sanchez appears to be in very good shape and he is throwing quite well.
…i keep getting questions about sanchez’s weight, because of some misleading photograph that appeared with a newspaper article…i guess the photo made him look fat, which he is not…
For recent photos of Sanchez, click here, here and here.
…thanks to Scott from Live Auctioneers for the photos…
The Mets have re-signed RHP Duaner Sanchez to a one-year, major-league contract.
At Mets Refugees, Dan M continues to do a great job providing updates on the construction of Citi Filed, complete with commentary and pictures.
The following clip is of Keith Hernandez’s latest commercial for Just for Mets, featuring Walt Frasier and Emmit Smith…
…thanks to Bobby D for the link…
…Update…1:30 pm…
…obviously, i should have written Just for Men…but, that is too perfect of a slip up to correct, so i’m letting it stand…
According to Joe Christensen in the Star-Tribune, “The Johan Santana trade discussions have reached a quiet but crucial stage.”
…to be honest, i’m no longer asking questions…for a long while it seemed i was the only person writing that the Mets even had a chance, let alone were involved in talks…now, things are quiet, just like christensen said…of course, don’t underestimate the current media cycle in new york, and how it impacts the way other local teams fight for news…
“The Twins know what they can get,” writes Christense, “And they realize none of the packages will appease their fans.”
On Friday, in an interview with MetsBlog, AaronGleeman.com’s Aaron Gleeman had the following to say, when asked how he and other Twins may react after a trade…
“I think it’s gonna be tough no matter what, even if they get Hughes back or well-known guys like that. It’s gonna be a huge PR-hit, I can already see that, it’s already building – especially with Torii Hunter already leaving…It’s gonna be a big PR-hit either way, but I think people will be fine with the Mets package.”
In a post to his blog for the Star-Tribune, La Velle E. Neal III asks himself, “How can the Twins deal with the Mets,” who are offering four or five prospects, and no major-league talent.
According Neal, “One MLB scout I spoke with Sunday feels that the Twins should throw a prospect into the deal to get the Mets to add Martinez.”
According to ESPN.com’s Rumor Central, the Royals, White Sox and
Mets had all been scouting free-agent Bartolo Colon.
However, in a report for ESPN.com last week, Buster Olney wrote that Colon was ‘on the verge’ of signing with the Mets last week, ‘but the Mets backed off after taking a closer look at the condition of his right arm.’
Today, the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that the Indians have lost interest in Colon as well, after watching him throw 87-89 mph in a Dominican Winter League game.
Similarly, the White Sox have backed off of Colon because of his desire for a mulityear deal, reports the Chicago Sun-Times, who lists the Royals as the favorites to sign Colon.
