The Orioles are in a slightly different situation, but for 3 reasons:

1) Bedard is under control for 2 more seasons.
2) He has a history of injuries, including wearing out last year
3) The Orioles aren't likely to compete for the playoffs in 2008

So, different situation than the Twins, and if they really don't expect to sign him to a huge extension (and trade him instead), then they should try to trade him now, looking for a big package.

Logically they probably get more now than in a year, but if they don't get an offer they like, they canjust keep him and try again.

The Orioles arent in the same situation as Minny. Unless I am wrong Baltimore doesnt need to trade Bedard because of money issues. They arent afraid to spend so they can resign him when they need to if they so choose. They have been known to spend. Dont know why they are even considering trading Bedard in the first place unless to see if they can be blown away.

Why don't we just dangle similar deals to each clubs and see who bites first?

i agree but they will be stupid to do that. the reason the twins arent getting what they want in a trade is because whatever team trades for him will only have him under control for 1 year. after that the team will have to sign him to and extension

billy beane really is smart. he traded haren when his value was highest and had a few years left under contract. Oakland got what, 5 top prospects??? learn from this Minaya, trade a player when there rated as high as it can be (he should have traded milledge 2 years ago for Manny), instead of getting ryan church and snieder

he had some arm soreness(tiredness) that shelved him in September. Is this a prelude to some kind of injury? If so, they could be up the creek if they wait another year. I would wait if I thought I had a shot to keep him long term. But with no shot, why risk it?

Bedard was shut down the last month of 07. Be very wary of signing him. he has never pitched 200 inning any season, he had 182ip last year and 196ip in 06. before that he didnt pitch a whole season. If you ask me his stamina is in question.

Bedard is the guy that could easily plow up on you. He had a could season last year, but wasn't heshut down late?

I just don't think he is going to stay on the field over the next few years.

They were and are a terrific uniform and great location to play in but everything else is a disaster. Angelos has ruined that team.

Still they have the money to keep him if they want. It will be near impossible to trade with them for Bedard. It also seems ridiculous to trade that guy since he is exactly the type of guy you want to build around not remove from your team
