Ryan Church, hands down. Should that really even be question?

    • erictribs says:

DID ANYONE ELSE SEE THE POST MATT JUST PUT UP/TOOK DOWN ABOUT GOMEZ BEING INSTRUCTED NOT TO PLAY IN THE CARIBBEAN WS?

i posted this on the mets forum, and now i’m being accused of making s**t up.

i can’t be seeing things! i’m too young, and currently sober.

    • beej0327 says:

although church may not be the hard nosed good guy that grren is, hes probably a better player mainly bc of his gae. but if church is needed in a trade for johan, then ill pack his bags for him. we can sill sign a guy like mench who can platoon with endy in right and id b a happy camper. we cant just sit around while the phillies get better. and ppl like livan will not just sit around for us too. i just hope that omar pulls somehting off bc if not, hes in for a lot of criticism!

  2. Pedro says:

Its wierd to say this, but I would probably rather have Green in there than Church. Best case scenario: Deal Church in the Santana deal and sign Green. (unless we r somehow able to retain Gomez- in which case he gets the job)

  3. MetFanInDC says:

If Church is required for the Santana deal, then so be it. I won’t wince. But if I had to either pick one or the either, without any other factors involved (i.e. possible trading chips)…how could you not pick Church?

    • bonatom says:

I was just watching the State of the Union address and the President sai.. and I quote:
“We must cut spending, not give in to special interest and the Mets must get Johan Santana”

      • Charlie says:

        i just laughed extremely hard.

      • nymetxicos says:

update…Bill smith is NOW considering taking 3 senators and 1 mid level assistant clerk with huge upside for Johan. Bush thinks that change-up will buckle those democrats’ knees

  4. Number41 says:

Foxsports Ken Rosenthal is saying Bedard deal is dead.
O’s want to keep him now.
    What a nutty organization.

    • Pedro says:

The Orioles are really nuts! They can never get things straight and it seems that every time they are going to do a big deal, the owner nixes it at the last second. Two years ago, we would have gotten Oswalt in a 3-way deal with Balt. and Houston but those idiots in Balt. screwed us. Not we have a crappy catcher and decent Right fielder to show for Milledge…sad.

  5. ugbmets21 says:

haha. funny thing i asked this ? in my post earlier today. :P

  6. Pedro says:

Church is not as good a clubhouse guy as Green and hes a rabid anti-semite. I appreciate the professionalism of Green and I think offensively he’s not that bad.

    • zen says:

      are you seinfled’s uncle leo?

    • MetFanInDC says:

How can you say he isn’t good? I know we have experience from what we hear about Green, but I think you are making assumptions about Church. Rabid anti-semite comment was funny though.

The Orioles, they have a great stadium, that’s about it. I didn’t think that was a fair trade anyway. Bedard is an Ace, and they get him for two or three years at his current contract, which is why the Santana deal isn’t that bad (1 yr).

    • bonatom says:

“RABID ANTI-SEMITE”! HA …what does he walk around the clubhouse, showing off his Nazi Tats and reading Mein Kampk .. Please.. if you actually read what he said that you know he is not an anti-semite. He is a young guy who had a questions about religion… don’t blow it out of proportion..

  7. Reyes es el Rey says:

Marty Noble is a moron and a joke of a journalist.

Nice Seinfeld reference. Well played, Zen.

  8. Pedro says:

If things fall thru w/ the Bedard to Seattle situation, would it be crazy for use to try and deal for Bedard ourselves? He can’t cost that much more than Santana

    • mcohen12 says:

Are you kidding?? I wouldn’t try to negotiate with the Orioles because when it comes down to it, Angelos will always f#$^ the deal up…. The ONLY reason Tejada got traded was cause he was going to be on the Mitchell Report, and they knew it…

  9. LoDuca says:

    http://www.metsprospectus.blogspot.com/2008/01/top-10-nl-offenses.html

    1. Phillies: They lost a huge key to the offense in Rowand, but with Rollins/Howard/Utley how can you go wrong? The rebirth of Pat “The Bat” Burell has a lot to do with this. 1st in the league with 892 runs scored last season.

    2. Mets: The Mets haven’t lost any major pieces, and Reyes/Wright are still getting better, but there are huge question marks with Delgado/Alou.. Call me crazy but I expect Reyes to hit better then the .220 he hit in September.

    3. Braves: They lost Andruw Jones, and Edgar Renteria but this lineup is still one of the deepest in the NL. But can Chipper/Kotsay stay healthy? Can Johnson/Escobar/Diaz repeat the success they had in 2007?

    4. Rockies: Some don’t believe in them but I do.. Holliday/Tulowitzki/Hawpe are all great offensive players.. 2nd in the league with 860 runs scored last season.

    5. Cubs: The Cubs made some improvements by letting Kendell walk, and signing top Japanese free agent Fukudome. They now have a very solid and balanced offense in Lee/Ramirez /Fukudome/Soriano.. Why do they want to get rid of Murton so bad?

    6. Milwaukee: Some forget that this team led the NL in homeruns last season with 231, and were 5th in the league in runs scored. Fielder/Braun/Hall are beast, and we can’t forget about J.J Hardy. (Predicting huge bounce back year from Rickie Weeks)

    7. Dodgers: Well they don’t hit a ton of homeruns but they also don’t play in a hitters heaven like a lot of the teams on this list.. They added Andruw Jones, and they still have a TON of youth. Jones/Either/Kemp/Loney/Kent are just part of the picture..

    8. Reds: They can’t do much, but boy can they hit. Dunn/Griffey/Phillips puts them in this conversation, as they were third in the league in homeruns last season. Edwin Encarnacion and top prospects Jay Bruce, and Joey Votto add to this depth.

    9. Cardinals: Sure they have Albert Pujols but who is there to protect him? Troy Glaus is a great hitter while healthy, but he has injury problems, and also he was mentioned in the Mitchell Report. Not a huge fan of Duncan, and don’t see a lot of improvement from last year.

    10. Does anyone deserve to be here? The Padres stink offensively, and the Diamondbacks are way too young and raw.. For now this is open.

The top 3 is what gave me the most trouble.. Please go to the blog, and vote in the poll!.. Also at the link provided at the top you see why each team is where it is..

  10. mr.metguy says:

Isn’t it interesting that the top three are in the NL East? Yet when the countless articles talk about which division is the best, we are not included (that’s probably because the Nationals and the Marlins are holding us down). Wow, now it seems like this post is suggesting that the whole NL East is one team. Call me crazy…

  11. dbonk13 says:

President Bush during the State of the Union Address: “bill smith must step up and stop taunting the American people, he must step up and deal Johan Santana to the Mets, and not demand an intolerable amount, the time is now Bill, make the deal”

  12. jlazar2 says:

According to MLBTradeRumors.com, Carlos Gomez has been pulled out of winter league by the Mets

    • omar21 says:

no way gomez should be allowed to play a single inning this winter.

      • Ryn5 says:

Carlos Gomez – The positive first: he got married. The negative was a lackluster .262/.331/.327 performance in 29 games for the Leones del Escogido in the Dominican.

        • nychurch111 says:

haha….i’ve been saying it, the guy can’t hit!

not even in winter league, where the immortal

anderson hernandez has been the best player.

i’m actually more shocked that he didn’t hit there cuz

          that league sucks.

        • MetFanInDC says:

Having read the article in Deportivo, this is what I gathered…The Mets will not allow Gomez to play in the series for an undisclosed reason. They have pulled him. His parents have added that now it would be difficult for him to play at this point.

Pending Trade? Sounds like it. I hope so.

  13. iknowmets says:

ive been thinking about this johan santana deal and i think that he is not going to get traded. the twins will keep him for 2 months and check how mets redsox and yankees prospects play and they will see the upside that the mets have and then the twins will come back and offer ask if the offer is still available of carlos gomez kevin mulvey deolis guerra and phil humber and the mets will reject. i really want to keep all of the mets prospects but if a trade happens i cant do anything about it i really wanted to keep milledge thinking that he will get stronger and hit 30 homeruns for the mets in the near future like ryan howard when he was 22 he was not considered a 40 plus homerun hitter but then developed and hit 56 homeruns in 2006. and milledge has a nice glove i would have loved for the mets to keep him and he would have been playing right field for the mets and i would have kept johnny estrada and castro to share equal time or have the mets sign miguel olivo and have him say sorry for the fans for the incident with reyes and have reyes comment back that it is cool with him i would have liked that better than schneider and church. now with everything else i like the help in the bullpen with i that i believe that scott schoenweis will be better this year and with matt wise and duaner back to help and willie collazo will get better, carlos muniz will also pitch and amborix burgos will get up healthy and dominate and show us some more of his 100 mph fastball and the mets got steven register in the rule five draft a closer in the minors who is almost ready to go up in majors and jorge sosa canbe a long relief pitcher and also in the bullpen. and the mets will have philip humber back and healthy and proove that he is a first round draft pick and he will start in the bullpen then he will get some starts. aaron hielman will be decent and i dont trust in him alot. the mets also have adam bostick a lefty reliever who will get a shot at the majors. and the mets got a reliever from the devil rays named brian stokes i believe he can be a decent starter he has a nice curve ball and he just check how he pitches just that he needs to get more time to get it together but for now he is a reliever the mets are packed with relievers. now to starting pitcher we will have pedro martinez for a full year which will be a huge upgrade and john maine is showing he can be a starting pitcher for the mets for a long time and he will get to 200 innings this year and maybe even 200 strike outs he can just get better and better. oliver perez should get an extension of what dontrelle willis got maybe less but his agent is scott boras he is an awesome pitcher if he can control more and walk less batters he is a high strike out person if he can control more. i do not know why people are saying that orlando hernandez needs to be in the bullpen elduque does not need to be in the bullpen at all he could have won 15 games easily it is that when he pitches the mets dont bat at all he leaves in the 8th inning while the mets are tied zero to zero or 2 to 2 or 1 to one and he gets the no decision the mets won 16 of his 24 starts and 6 to no decisions. mike pelfrey and phil humber will pitch for the fifth rotation spot and maybe kevin mulvey can join by the allstar break.and maybe jason vargas can get it together and join the mets again. and the mets get to see deolis guerra in the majors in 2009 and gomez in left field and we will see what martinez can do.

and ithikn i broke for the longest post lol

  15. PDubs says:

iknowmets, what you’ve just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

    • Crooked Numbers says:

LOL, he scared me off with the first 3 words: “i’ve been thinking.” An oxymoron when combined with the rest of the post.

  16. PC521 says:

I think if Gomez, Church, Guerra, and Mulvey are dealt for Johan, we should sign Mench and Green to platoon.

    • FishNMetz says:

Finally, i have been saying this all over the net and it seems like no one has even seen it as an option. They would make a great platoon
