Any word on Livan Hernandez or is that over?

  2. georgetheodore says:

Ruddy was quoted as saying “I really wanted to go to the Mets”

    • Mitch45 says:

But a little birdie told Francesa that he wanted to stay in the AL and play for the Yankees.

      • BSMITTYFDNY says:

I officially hate Mike and the Mad Dog now. This trade is so huge for NY Sports and they were so ho hum about it. What a disgrace. And WFAN is the flagship station of the Mets? They had obvious looks of disgust on their faces (especially fatboy) while mentioning the trade on YES. I am sick of Mike’s supposed “sources” that are never right. If he went to the Yanks it would be 6 straight hours of Johan talk but since he is becoming a Met it is like an annoying afterthought for them. Pathetic. He even went as far as to say wait to see how Santana cant pitch in a big game. Is he for real?

  3. pkay23 says:

We already got the Whopper! Everything else is just from the dollar menu

    • mrosey says:

“Get me a Whopper!” That commercial cracks me up

      • x-nady says:

        “All I want, is a TRIPLE Whopper…”

Who the hell eats a triple whopper???

        • nrmax88 says:

          ““All I want, is a TRIPLE Whopper…”

Who the hell eats a triple whopper???”

What a terrific post. So simple, yet hysterical. Nice.

        • x-nady says:

And did you see the guy that was asking for the triple whopper? He looked like he weighed a buck 20. No way was he eating triple whoppers.

  4. Reyes es el Rey says:

Is this the guy that went to Xaverian?

I hope so. Welcome home Ruddy.

    • GravediggerHebner says:

unless Xaverian is in New Orleans he’ll probably be pretty far from home but think positively: he’s an arm injury away!

Sorry, that was uncalled for and I apologize. Pretty sure he’s Julio’s brother if that helps.

    • Roach2 says:

      It is

I faced him in High school…he was NASTY

Originally drafted as a SS, which i always thought was odd

    • delocke says:

      i believe so; He’s Julio’s brother.

Good heat, good slider, spotty control. All in all not a terrible guy to have stashed at AAA.

  5. Lightweis says:

Does he intentionally blow leads in order to get wins??

  6. gem779 says:

    Talk about being overshadowed..

  7. x-nady says:

The Mets should make a serious run at Freddy Garcia now (he’s still available right?) One year with a team option or a production based goals for a 2nd year. He would start the year rehabbing and be ready by midseason in the event of an emergency.

Could you imagine a future Mets lineup with a healthy Garcia?:

    Johan
    Garcia
    Maine
    Perez
    Pelfry

    • chaseh says:

Ummmm, where the hell is Pedro in this plan?

      When was Freddy any good?

      • Jammin923 says:

        2001

      • x-nady says:

I was projecting 2-3 years down the line and assuming Garcia returns to form and Pedro is done. Low Risk/High reward & insurance for this year.

        Btw;

        2004: 13-11, 210 ip, 3.81 era, 184 k, 64 bb
        2005: 14-08, 228 ip, 3.87 era, 146 k, 60 bb
        2006: 17-09, 216 ip, 4.54 era, 135 k, 48 bb
        2007: Injury

I’d call that pretty good. He is 31 years old, but he should have a 3-5 prime years left.

        • we don’t have any prospects left to get him

        • x-nady says:

          He’s not a FA?

        • chaseh says:

Those numbers look very plain. I would be interested in seeing the ratio/whip. ERA doesn’t look like anything to back up the truck for. Trachsel?

        • x-nady says:

          He’s a free agent guys…

        • nrmax88 says:

chase, too be fair (and I dont really want Garcia either, though I wouldnt complain), he is a solid guy if he can get back healthy again, was known for throwing tons of innings, and pitching for the Whitesox is brutal. Their in a tough division in a great hitters park. A healthy garcia would be really solid pitching in Shea/Citi field.

  8. coolio83 says:

I stil think we need to find another pen guy

    • x-nady says:

I think with the pick up of Wise, Register & Vineyard, coupled with the return of Dirty Sanchez & hopefully the midseason return of Padilla, we should be fine.

  9. AzMetsFan says:

We should still sign Julio Franco to back up 1B and be a threat of the bench.

    NOT!

  10. chaseh says:

Now that we’ve got Lugo, lets check in again with Victorino and see if we’re on top of the division.

    • Mr. Bananagrabber says:

That’s only two moves now. We need another two to even come close to matching what the Phillies have done this offseason.

Or wait, do the Church/Schneider and Matt Wise acquisitions count toward our total? Or maybe we need terrible, platoon type moves to make them count.

  11. RectumDamnNearKilledEm says:

    I love everyone

  12. skillsets says:

    Welcome aboard Ruddy!

  13. BBmetsfreak36 says:

absolutley get gacia. he probably has alittle more potential then livan but livan is consistant w/ 10+ wins 200+. Most likely wen gacia is ready somebody unvoutunetly is going to be hurt wether a bull pen guy or el duge but wen that happenes we can send el duge to the pen and still be solid. or livan now and his older bro in the peb so we can stop looking for another reliever. not a must but as we all know “u can never have to much pitching.

  14. Kalihan42 says:

Can you say, refill the farm system with bodies? Not good bodies, but bodies.

    • adropofvenom says:

In the last two years he has a 4.39 ERA in 133.1 Innings His peripherials suck, but someone with that kind of recent success seems worth taking a chance on to me. Whats the worst case? That he doesn’t make our roster? Oh well.

      • Kalihan42 says:

I wasn’t disagreeing on him having any value but just pointing out that it is time to refresh the system…we just sent 4 guys out of our system and need to fill those minor league roster spots.

    • Nate W. says:

indeed, that AAA staff is going to be brutat without Mulvey and Humber.

Pelfrey, Bostick, and a few corpses, maybe Jason Vargas…

  15. robmenna says:

I saw Ruddy Lugo pitch in one of the greatest highschool games ever at Shea Stadium. Xaverian v. Iona Prep. The pitcher for Iona, Brian Slocum, threw a one hitter and lost the game because Lugo scored from second on a slow roller to the 3rd baseman in the last inning.

    • novanoto says:

ha…i don’t remember that game, but i went to villanova with bj slocum…kid was a beast back then, he’s with the indians now…and this is a totally pointless post…don’t mind me!!

      • 7train says:

I went to Iona Prep. Class of 98. Last I spoke to BJ he was with the Akron Aeros, Double AA for Indians.

      • davethenjmetsfan says:

Hey, I used to watch Chip Slocum race at Flemington Speedway in NJ! Let’s keep this nonsensical thread going….

  16. Mitch45 says:

Hopefully, he’s a ruddy good pitcher.

  17. thekid8 says:

yes thats the kid from xaverian h.s. in brooklyn

he had a great upside early and through college but looks like a an average mid. rel. man at best

i believe he is julio lugo’s cousin or half-cousin… something like that :-)

  18. Steve In Tampa says:

OK, first Brian Stokes, now Lugo. All we need is for Shawn Camp to get picked up, and we can witness the worst 3 bullpen pitchers I have ever seen. All 3 from last year in Tampa. He is just plain terrible, and makes Mota seem like a lights out pitcher…Stokes on the other hand has good stuff and perhaps the jacket can make something out of him.

  19. Nails says:

I hate ESPN. They tagged a segment as “Olney will give us the update on the Santana negotiations” and it was just the same bunch of crap that Olney said last night, wrote this morning, about how much leverage Santana has.

I know they’ll sign him, but the more I watch ESPN, the more I realize that their ship has sailed. They’re going the way of the MTV hype machine.

  20. Now that we have santana, all these inconsequential moves seem funny and good. Its not like when we signed wise and everyone was going crazy

  21. NeedAnAce says:

I went to Middle School with Ruddy Lugo at McKinley JHS in Brooklyn, NY. Kinda crazy to think that he may one day be a Met.
He had a tremendous career at Xavarian, and if he throws as hard as he did in H.S. he’s got a shot to make an impact at the MLB Level.

  22. jakeha23 says:

his record last year is what johan’s is going to be in his first 6 starts

  23. iknowmets says:

cool brother of julio did a little research

  24. Nutz15 says:

I played with and against Ruddy’s Xaverian and Youth Service teams back in the late 90’s. (And the fact that I just referenced “the late 90’s” tells me that I’m getting old.)

He’s not a bad pick-up as minor league filler, and to see what he can do in Spring Training — always had good stuff when we were younger, and it’s nice to see another local boy back with the organization.

Stockpiling of arms…..Omar’s M.O. Too bad the Mets didn’t do the right thing by another Xaverian Clipper, in Pedro Beato. Kid’s looked good so far in the Orioles system.

    Good luck to Ruddy.

  25. jlazar2 says:

Wow Omar is on a roll

  26. CHIEFSLAPAHO75 says:

    Nothing wrong with stockpiling arms.

  27. kkwik22 says:

I see 6-0, he’s welcome to the Mets…unless he tries to take a couple of Johan’s

  28. MetsieFan84 says:

It’s amazing what one trade can do to our moods. lol We can hate each other one day and get along just fine the next. But I’m excited, I can’t wait to see Johan pitch for the Mets.

  29. Gilch says:

rudy!!!!!!!!!! i went to xaverian with him, was throwing 92 in high school

  30. GravediggerHebner says:

I have absolutely no idea what that means but still it made me laugh out loud. I said it yesterday and I’ll say it again: Krusty I love your work. Don’t change. Your quick response to my Larry Flynt quip made you forever one of my favorites!

  31. x-nady says:

Livan would most likely fill a hole temporarily for one year. If we can get Garcia for the same amount of years (or even an incentive laden option year) I would go for Freddy. More upside and he is younger. And if you check out my post above, he has pitched well over 200 innings from 2004-2006 with a great K-bb ratio and very good era.

  32. gbaked says:

they should bring in livan, and have him and el duque throw complete games together. One can start (based on the lineup? I am doing no research on this) and the other can come in the 6th (give or take) and take the game over.

It would be great for willie, because he would have no bullpen decisions to make. It would be great for everyone else because it would be awesome.
