Read: Hunter on Santana
By D.J. Short - Jan 30, 2008 5:22 pm

Angels OF Torii Hunter, former teammate of Johan Santana, as quoted by Bob Nightengale of USAToday.com

“The Mets are not only getting a Cy Young winner, but an absolute bulldog who’s great in the clubhouse. He’s going to dominate that league. They’re going to absolutely love him in New York…I know he’s happy, too, because he really wanted to go to the Mets. He’s always wanted to swing the wood. He can hit…So I don’t know who’s happier, Johan, the Mets, or everyone in the American League because they don’t have to face him anymore.”

I can’t read “he really wanted to go to the Mets” enough. Can you just print it over and over please? Thanks!

Wait didn’t Torri get the Mike and Mad Dog Memo? Santana is so disappointed to be going to Queens because he wanted to be a Yankee all along….lmao

Food for thought….

Trade Fernando Martinez, Aaron Heilman, Mike Pelfrey, and Mike Carp to the Orioles for Eric Bedard….

Johan
Bedard
Pedro
Maine
Perez

Wow…

Yea, too bad Bedard is already on the Mariners. But I’m sure that the Orioles would be thrilled to give us a guy that looked like Bedard for F-Mart, Heilman, Plefry and Carp.

This was from an ESPN article from today…

I know its in limited appearances and all, but does this make anyone elses nipples get hard?

Among active pitchers with a minimum of 15 innings pitched in Shea, Santana has the fourth-best career ERA.

Pitcher ERA
Brandon Webb 0.31
Chris Reitsma 0.44
Mark Prior 0.47
Johan Santana 0.60
Ryan Madson 0.70

Ill take 32-2, 0.85 ERA, 0.75 WHIP…..That should do just fine…

Geez, didn’t know that about Reitsma. Now I’m a little tiny bit upset that he signed with the Mariners a few weeks ago. Maybe he could’ve helped the Mets.

I would take that too — but take those stats with a grain of salt — he posted that .60 ERA against the team he is now pitching for (a team that has its share off trouble against lefties). That said, his ERA in Shea will still be insane.

Gravedigger, I’ll try to oblige you . . .

I know that he’s happy, too, because he really wanted to go to the Mets. He’s always wanted to swing the wood. He can hit.

So I don’t know who’s happier, Johan, the Mets, or everyone in the American League because they don’t have to face him anymore.

Hunter left out one group . . . US!!! ;)

That’s not negativity, chief. Just an observation. This is a terrific deal and a great time to be a Met fan. Cerrone was right. He knows he was right. We know he was right. We all appreciate and love the site, but the self-congratulation starts to look like self-promotion. His site, he can do what he wants with it, but it’s no longer the little engine that could — it’s an SNY-affiliated success story.

Mmmmmmmeeeeeeyeaaa. Im gonna go ahead and say that unless Jesus Christ himself is starting for the Marlins that, as the old saying goes, “Plenty of good seats will still be available.” ….They are the worst fans in MLB and their team stinks. No one down there is gonna care its Johan’s first game with the Mets. I guarantee that they wont even have a full house for Opening Day.

I am going to 2 games at Spring Training in St. Lucie in March as well. Going to Mets vs. Houston and the next day vs. Boston. Front row behind home plate. Face value through a friend of my dad’s is under $40! Such a different atmosphere at Spring Training. Players are so approachable and friendly. Every year I go and get to speak with some of the players. David Wright signed 5 items for me and chatted with me about his hitting and he quized me about what its like being a fireman in NYC. He is so cool and down to earth. A perfect player to root for. I really hope I get to see Santana pitch one of the 2 games. If not I hope I get to meet him and maybe get an autograph. I want to thank him for putting the pressure on Bill Smith and the Twins. I am still in shock that Omar pulled this off and at that price. What freaking highway robbery! So many posters on here didnt want this deal. Many didnt want to give up 4 prospects. But the fact that we kept F-Mart AND Pelfrey is amazing! We gave 4 “maybes” for a guaranteed ace who I predict will win north of 20 games for the next 5 years. I have already forgiven them for the collaspe or at least will now forget, and I dont mind the 20% increase either (as long as we get him signed and this doesnt fall through over money). Mission accomplished Omar. Well done Matt. You helped me remain optimistic and keep the faith. Now please reasure us that we WILL get him signed. Sorry for such a long post but I am just so pumped!

I figured I might as well. Tickets are cheap as hell in Miami. Could probably watch the whole series for the price of one average seat at a Met game. Should be 80 percent Met fans, if not more.

I know that, as soon as I saw this reported here on MetsBlog, I opened up a new window . . . went to YouTube, and downloaded Handel’s “Hallelujah Chorus,” to play it over and over . . .

It’s bookmarked now. :)

i really think the mets should start pedro opening day so the first phillies game (and opening day at shea) johan would be scheduled to start. That would really be a great feeling if he does well against them

Again, kudos to you Matt who has been saying this all along. I don’t know who your source is or how you knew that, but it seems that you were the only person, from any media outlet that knew that for certain. No matter what criticism you got, you never stopped saying it and I give you credit for that. I will never doubt anything you say ever again.

Something must be wrong with him. No one wants to go to the Mets.
