During last night’s edition of SportsNite on SNY, I relayed a bit of fan reaction towards the Mets and Johan Santana, while also pulling two reader’s comments from MetsBlog.com.

…i was either really tired, or the lights were bad, because, wow, i look like death warmed over…i guess the last two months were a lot longer than i realized…jeez…
Also, to watch the Star-Ledger’s Dan Graziano comment on the trade, go to

Looking sharp there, Matt.
Dude…… You’re a star! Pretty sure the make-up person did a good job…..
I thought the same thing when watching this..
It was nice to see that they let you talk a little bit more than just running down the outcomes of the polls… I think you have a lot to say, and do a good job summing up what most of us think.
I was going to be hard pressed to be excited going into March if nothing happend but adding Livan or Loshe
You know, I don’t mean to blow smoke anywhere untoward, but I for one am proud to have Matt out there as something of a spokesman for we Mets fans – at least those of us with computers.
Excellent work, as always, Matt.
but you still look like Paul Lo Duca
This trade for Johan makes up for the Nolan Ryan for Jim Fregosi dead!
I think this is the best trade the Mets have ever pulled…
Piazza’s first for me, until we get to the WS. Then it’s a tie.
Yes, the confidence would’ve went down but still games need to be played and I think some of us were on the fence if this trade didn’t happen. The more closer it got to spring training, I think the confidence would’ve decreased a bit.
wow, Matt, you really cleaned up from the first time I saw you on air…you look comfortable and composed instead of scruffy and nervous. Nicely.
And props, props, props for being on this the whole way.
I agree you definitely look much more comfortable on-air than the first few times I’ve seen you. i’m sure that will only improve. now you just need to work on that kermit the frog voice of yours (just some old good-natured ribbing, of course!)
Has anyone ever told you that your voice and accent sound like Ed Burns?
Glad to see that you didn’t bring back the sweater from Monday. With you on the show, it feels like “we” have a voice.
Off topic but in case no one else has posted it.
Feast your eyes on Santana’s interleague line:
182.2 IP, 16-4, 191 K, 2.27 ERA, 0.91 WHIP.
Mmmmmm.
The suit jacket is definately a nice touch. Lose the t-shirt though. Seriously Matt, you are a testement to anyone who thinks you can’t make a living doing something you love. Keep up the good work.
wonder if his wardrobe was sponsored by canali
Impressive to say the least Matt, you showed wit with your responses, now to work on your smile like Omar recently developed while listening to the interview questions,
(and great job for the predicting this exact trade, not often do trade discussions lead to accurate trades )
You did a great job, the outfit was great, and you sounded like an old pro. Your partnership with SNY is a perfect fit, as long as they continue to utilize you well. Great job.
At least you’re not wearing a striped sweater, tucked in. Keep using the blazer look.
Who’s Johan Santana?
what are we supposed to talk about today?
who’s our long reliever?
why can’t Omar get us a good long reliever!!!!
Come on Omar, get to work and find us a long reliever!!!
:-)
There had to be better quotes than one saying the Mets are going to war next season. Obviously, I know what he meant, but it still seems a tad inappropriate, IMO.
So metaphors are out until we leave Afghanistan and Iraq?
Stupid ones are.
Matt,
Next time, you should shave.
Don’t be so hard on yourself, Matt, you did a nice job! That suit was sharp.
Long Reliever? Hmmm…..Jorge Sosa? Haha…
I got that funny empty feeling like when exams are over….
the pressure is gone, but in a sick way, I miss it….
need to see a shrink.
Where the heck is “Beltran’s Mole” when you need some serious insight?
i say “ditto” to all of the comments above and add my own thanks and congrats on sharing your knowledge with us through this off-season. whenever i felt a little bit down, there was invariably a good spin about this whole idea to read on your site.
my special compliments for using the word “nudgy.” that was genius and spoken like a true new york mets fan.
Was it just me or did it seem like Brian Custer had never been on Metsblog before in his life? I mean come on, do a little research. He said something like, “yeah, I bet the activity on the site is really going to heat up now!” I mean its BEEN hot, if anything, this is all anti-climactic.
Maybe I’m just being sensitive for your sake Cerrone.
Either way, I’m glad I can now worry about stupid things like this now that we have Johan in the fold.
(smiling on the inside)
Hi Matt, Great job on SNY last night. You looked and sounded terrific. Even though we’ve never met, I felt like I was watching an old friend. : ) Metsblog is the first thing I read the minute I get into the office every day (just don’t tell my boss that!)
Keep up the fantastic work and thanks.
You don’t look that bad. Yay metsblog!!!
I noticed that the usual scruff/stubble seemed more trimmed than usual :-) Ya looked just fine–it was a good spot.
We were all more intent on what you had to say than how you looked – that said, well done!
But, now that you mention it ….
You did look a little jittery – you might want to lay-off the sugar and/or caffeine, beforehand, next time (LOL)!
And, what’s with the hands? You reminded me of the quirky character “Jerry” from the tv show “Boston Legal” who walks around with his hands on the fronts of his thighs. LOL!
(I ruined a wedding photo with that ‘hand’ thing. Damned photographer, what the hell was she looking at?!! LOL)
Just poking fun at you, Matt. You know, we all love you, right?
Practice makes perfect. Keep up the good work!
Salute!
