for whatever it’s worth, matt, i think met fans have become so disenfranchised and wary that even the prospect of johan santana and pedro martinez pitching on the same team is greeted with some hesitation and reservation. i remember, at this same time last year, reading all about how jose reyes was going to win the MVP, and believing it! obviously the season didn’t fair as well on the field as it did on paper… so i’ll believe it, and i’ll be as nuts as the next guy about our staff, as soon as i SEE it.

well for one it helps the Tigers and Indians playoff chances, and limits the Yankees and Red Sox to fight over one playoff spot…

That final year of the Santana deal is a relatively easily attainable vesting option. The one fall back the Mets have is that he must be on the active roster on Sept 1, 2013. This is a very strong point to have, and must have been one of the concessions the Santana camp gave up to get the deal done. Everything else regarding the option year should be relatively easy for him to reach.

For whatever it’s worth, I got my Johan merchandise at Modell’s on Sunday morning. The kid at the register told me that it would have been available on Saturday except for the fact that there was a corporate edict that no Johan merchandise went onto the sales floor until the results of his physical were official.
