The Johan Santana press conference will air live this afternoon on SNY and MLB.com at 1 pm EDT.
…i’ll be there, and will do my best to blog about the event…
…i will not be providing direct quotes, necessarily, though i will try…instead, i’m going to try and plug in and just blog about what the event is like, how it’s set up, who is with whom, and sort of fill in the gaps with what most fans do not get to see through their television…

Livin’ the dream, Matt.
Go get em.
Give Johan a “In Omar We Trust” tee!
Why 1 pm? Can’t they wait till I get home from classes!?!?
Seriously! It is times like these that make me resent Matt. I mean this guy is being rewarded for the novel idea of talking about the Mets. I’ve been doing that everyday for the past 25 years!… and I would sooner get a kick in the nuts than an opportunity like this..
Of course, I am kidding. Keep up the good work!!
Cant Wait! HURRY UP CLOCK!
this is actually great…we can all see the quotes…but to get a 3rd dimensional sense is very cool
Matt, can’t wait for your summary of the presser. This is exactly why it was good for MetsBlog readers that you signed the deal with SNY.
On another note, has anyone seen that yarn in the Daily News today about Castillo and his discussions with Johan after Castillo was traded to the Mets? Quite incredible – Omar got it absolutely right the whole way through. And so did Cerrone.
It appears the story is in the Post too, from a conference call with Castillo yesterday.
Rumor has it that Matt was seen partying with Castillo this summer in some clubs down in Island Park. That is why Metsblog was slumping over the summer but Matt has grown from his experiences and now he is mature and focused.
LOL
I guess I picked a good day to wake up with a fever over 100 and stay home from work: now I get to watch the press conference!
Bueller. Bueller?
I don’t have SNY, y’all think it will be on ESPNEWS? I wanna record our savior put on the real pinstripes…
Well you do realize that the pinstripes are there in homage of the Yankers, right?
–Most things about the Mets pay respect to NY baseball teams…The name Metropolitans is a tribute to the former Metropolitans that played here in the late 1800’s…colors feature Dodger Blue, and Giant Orange…The NY logo we use was actually the NY Giants logo…And of course the pinstripes are for the Yanks.
Thanks for the history lesson, but I already knew that… Did I really have to put quotations around “real” on a Mets website……….?
haha nothin personal…Mets fan in Georgia–that must have been a bit rough a few years back
I’m afraid to post this because it’s slightly off-topic, but your post is exactly why I have no problems with the design of Citi Field. The Mets whole organization has been an homage to the Dodgers and Giants right from the beginning, so I have no problem continuing that with the new field, as long as it ALSO has some tributes to Mets history (the Apple, a Mets museum, maybe a big-ass Budweiser ad in rightfield, etc.)
To relate this to the topic: Johan Santana WOOOOOOOOO
No Bud, Rhiengold baby!!!!!!
believe it or not mike and the mad dog said YES was going to cover the event.
This is the best day to be a Mets fan since we traded for Piazza
Is the conference going to be on the net? I know FAN will have it but I want to watch it.
i think mets.com is gonna have it
I’m sure ESPN will carry out. Often mlb radio.com streams both the live radio and as well as the video of their shows. The have an in studio camera. Usually they carry these type of big press confrences and I’m sure they will carry this one. FYI…mlb radio is awesome. All baseball all the time and they have great baseball gossip, they cover minor league happenings and as well as fantasy stuff. I listen when I get Mike and the Mad Dog-ed out. Great stuff.
again, google mlb radio.
wow its here
Random thought: I’m very excited about this news conference and not to harp on moving forward so quickly, but any thoughts to who else needs to be added to this roster.
I’d love to bring Tony Clark back to the team to get some power off the bench and a true 1st base backup. Also, we need a RF that bats Right Handed to hit against Tough Lefties and spell Church occasionally.
I’d love to get Matt’s thoughts on these.
Will Santana’s number be 57? This will go down as one of the best days in my sports life! Well being a met/jet/knick/ranger fan that’s pretty obvious, huh?
Thank god for DVR…
Yes, Santana is #57 on the Mets.
Is this the first 57 in met history?
nope, Eric Valent was the most recent…I’m sure there have been others.
there’s a website mbtn.com which is “Mets by the numbers”, you can get alot of info on who wore what numbers throughout met history there.
It’s actually mbtn.net and this is the list:
Robson, Tom
Roach, Jason
Valent, Eric
whoops, thank you.
I can’t wait to see santana in a mets uniform, i live in miami and i already got my tickets for opening day down here.
LETS GO METS!
I can’t wait to see Santana in a Mets uniform, just a few hours away! :)
