no, this is the original firemetsmanagement, our old favorite, Mr Met!!

that said, if this team does not make the playoffs, and this comes from an ardent willie supporter, Willie's job is definitely in question .. we've got the tools, we've got the talent, now let's kick some butt ;)

The vibe I'm getting from these guys is that they're ready and this year they want to steamroll their way to 103 wins..

A video of New York Mets pitcher Pedro Martinez and Hall of Famer Juan Marichal at a cockfight was posted this week on YouTube.

Pedro Martinez

Martinez

Martinez and Marichal laugh before releasing the roosters. The two took part as honorary "soltadores," the word used to describe the person who puts the animal to fight.

The animal released by Martinez appears to be killed on the video, which was posted Tuesday. The fight takes place in the Coliseo de Gallos (Rooster Coliseum) in Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic's biggest cockfighting venue. Cockfighting is legal and popular in the Dominican Republic.

By early Thursday, the video was removed "due to terms of use violation."

I knew he was a great pitcher but after watchign this he seems like a great guy also. He should fit right in with the group of guys we have here now. I believe in 08.

Grab Livan if we can. These players have to be antsy at this point with spring traing coming fast and no contract. We may get Livan, F. Garcia, or Lohse ( I hope not him but the other two instead) on the cheap right now. Mench as the right handed OF/1B bat as well. Or, dont kill me for this one ,but what about Sammy "Omar's man" Sosa for the power righty bat we need? Could be great fit to platoon with Church if necessary or play LF when Alou goes on DL. Does he play any 1B? Remember Sosa had over 90 RBI's last season. He still has some game left in him. Always liked him. He plays very hard and is passionate about the game. You can definetly argue against it though.

We need to give Willie this year to prove himself. Leave him alone for one more year as he is still a young, new manager. If he fails to lead this highly talented team again or fails to set established roles for our bullpen arms then we should move on. But for now I say give him the benefit of the doubt. If he fails then yes I would be interested in bringing back Bobby V although I dont think the Mets would ever even consider it. I would have liked Joe Girardi but actually I am over former Yankees. If Willie is ever let go we need a former Met player with some experience managing. Backman? (Wright loves him right or is it HoJo?) HoJo? Gary Carter? Dykstra? Keith Hernandez? (although he has never managed he sure knows this team from calling every game), Mookie? For now we give Willie a little rope but if he doesnt work out we should definetly go with an ex Met player to manage.

Ahhhh.......Rick Reed. Nice to hear his name again. He was one of my favorite Met pitchers of all time. I loved his style of pitching. He would leave it all out on the mound. He was a typical blue collar pitcher who used everything he had and so much effort to make up for what he lacked in natural talent. Bobby Jones' game in the playoffs that year was amazing as well. Remember that playoff game to get in the playoffs the Mets had where Lieter pitched ausome and Alfonzo had a great game at the plate? A great team to root for. I miss Bobby V but he wasnt good working with highly talented elite athletes. He is good for getting everything out of lesser talented players such as Benny Agbayani.

Johan is just what this team needs. He adds an air of authenticity, respect and leadership that the team sorely needs...I was elated during his press conference. He spoke well, answered the questions politely, and looked truly happy to put on the pinstripes...if his personality can bleed over to the team when they hit a slump we wont be collapsing anytime soon...I cannot wait a single effin' moment longer for the season to start. Think of all goodness we get treated to you this year. Johan as a Met, the return of an injury free Pedro (his injuries had been nagging him for years) and we get to see Glavine pitch against us...and get reminded of why he should stayed in NY for one more season.
