Is there anybody out there who does not like Perez?
... OK, glad we got that out of the way.
I would love to sign him up to an extension, but he's not interested. I think the key is not to low ball the kid regarding his salary for 2008. If the Mets are willing to compromise and give him what he deserves, they should at least have a good chance to sign to a long-term deal in the future.

If you really think that Scott Boras is off his game, then its because he wants you to think that way.

Do you really think that A-Rod negotiated his contract without Boras? I don't think so. Boras may not have been in the room, but you know he was briefing A-Rod on what to ask for.

Besides, who else but Boras could get a team to pay for a player's Country Club membership (Greg Maddux)?

As for Perez; if he can get his head straightened out, he could end up being worth whatever he asks for. Having said that, the worse thing a player can be labeled with is "having great potential".

that's what I mean by 'expensive' ('it might take more than that')

And I think 4 years would be too much. power guys fall off a cliff when they decline and we'd (theoretically) have him from age...33-on.

If we could somehow get Johnson, that's the most interesting/plausible.

What the hell do MadDog and his fat partner know about Perez? Dog hates him, thinks he stinks. Mike likes him, but they rarely know what they're talking about anymore, so I wouldn't put too much in this.

It will really be too bad if the Mets lose out on Perez... I really like him and his stuff, and I like the emotion he brings to the game, even though it sometimes makes him erratic. I really think he'll continue to develop this year into the pitcher he was always supposed to be, and then will get a big payday as a free agent. Hopefully with the Mets.

He's worth 4 years 42 mil. He's still a solid 1B option jus for his power.

Unfortunately, it may take more than that.

oops, angels...one of those LA teams with prospects...but again, who do they get from us? don't see what we'd have to offer them, really.

If konerko is any kind of expensive, I'd pass on him too.

I think u meant the angels.....

The angels might deal one cuz its a waste to keep 2 good young bats like that on the bench.

Yes, Konerko would be Delgado 2, which is all we need there really.

NIck Johnson is locked up a few more years, but he's cheap for us, while being one of the highest paid Nats. They have Dmitri Young and they have to find at bats for Dukes, Milledge, Kearns and Pena.

possibly Johnson--I don't know his contract status, but he should be around FA time--but why would the dodgers give those guys up? For whom?

No thanks to sexson, and I thought Konerko was locked up...and if not, won't he be Delgado part deux?

nice info, I liked the fact that he has done well in US AAA over the last number of years and has pitched for New Orleans before.

He most certainly is here to be part of the AAA rotation, but at least he shows a bit more promise of being able to fill in at the big league level and be more useful than Chan Ho Lima...

Although the fact that he has been a starting pitcher in the Dominican WL worries me about his ability to start all year stateside. Thats a lot of work with no breaks.

Pelfrey, Bostick, Figueroa, Jose Santiago, and Vargas?
I feel for the Zephers fans, its not gonna be a pretty year...
