I kind of hate the way the public gets all bent out of shape about cockfighting, dogfighting etc. Our culture is a violent one that very often treats animals pretty poorly. We eat them. Don’t get me wrong I eat meat, chicken, seafood whatever but my problem is that it seems a bit hypocritical for folks to feel moral outrage at Pedro for watching an event where animals (that Americans and people the world over eat thousands of everyday) hurt each other. I guarantee there is someone at a Chick-Fil-A right now looking at a paper shaking their head in disgust saying “My goodness how could that awful Dominican man watch those poor animals kill each other”, and the he takes a bite of his chicken sandwich. Whatever lets you sleep at night, I guess.

Free speech, yes, but PETA goes further than that, they trespass, they destroy private property, they assault by throwing red paint on people.

After reading all the posts (some of them were hysterical, especially the Seinfeld references), I felt it necessary to reply to each point:

Cock Fighting:
Although I personally find it tasteless, it is absolutely no different than bull fighting in Spain, which I also find tasteless. I am not a fan of hunting & fishing as a sport as well…………but if Cock fighting is legal in the DR, this is a non-issue:

Comparisons to Vick:
Dog fighting is illegal in the US – not even on the same level. Unfortunately, Cock Fighting is part of the culture there

Pedro’s Judgment:
What do you expect from a guy that carried around a midget (Nelson Delarosa) on his shoulders – in the SOX clubhouse??

Poultry & Meat industry:
I enjoy my meat – which is why I don’t visit the farms & slaughter houses – I don’t feel the need to watch them gut an animal – this has nothing to do with cock fighting – silly to compare……….one is a vicious fight to the death, the other is Cock Fighting…………just kidding

Bottom Line:
Although I personally don’t like it, Rooster fighting is not illegal in the DR and is actually a part the culture there – again similar to bull fighting in Spain. Let it GO……………Pedro should just apologize and get on with what he does best – pitch!!

Amen! It is wrong to treat animals like that no questionn,
but there is a lot worse going on around the world than cockfighting. Most of it you never see on Youtube.
People are starving all over the world and hardly see that on the 11 o’clock news.

It is amazing in this society we can’t wait beat a person down. Any kind of amimal cruelty is wrong, Is bull fighting wrong? how come nobody talks about that. In America don’t we do things that are legal but wrong! We are so quick to judge anything. Even Clemens how the hell after 8 years does the guy have blood and needles proving that Clemens did steroids. There is nothing else to write about it is February! Can’t wait for pitchers and catchers Play Ball!

Anyone want to bet money that if Pedro doesn’t speak up there will be PETA protesters? Those people need a life… and a hobby. Seriously – cockfighting is legal in DR and he was not gambling. This was purely him and Marichal being at a cockfight watching. Not betting… All they did was throw two roosters and whether they are pumped on steroids or whatever, people have the right to enjoy themselves much the same way there is underground dog fights. If you think Bad Newz Kennelz was something major, man… I’m sure there are more people who took notice and are making their business as tight as possible so as not to allow anyone to infiltrate their business.

PETA – F.U.!! I have no plans to go vegetarian! Organic yes… but I am not going to be a damn vegan!!
