IMHO…If this had come to light several weeks ago, Santana would be on the Sox. They would not have signed Schilling(8 mil saved) and turned around used that $ towards Johan. They are win now as well and do not want to lose this momentum to the Skanks.

Did anyone read the Boston Herald article? Notice that when the Sox & Schilling had to agree on the “3rd opinion”, they agreed on Dr. Altchek – the Mets’ doctor.

It’s a good sign that the Mets’ doc is so highly regarded. But I’ve gotta wonder, how long til the conspiracy theorists start with “He tipped off the Mets, so they upped their offer”, which is horribly insulting to the man professionally.

I don’t feel that bad, since he has had a long career, and has pretty much been playing on borrowed time anyway.

But mostly, I don’t want anything to happen that gives the Yankees a better chance at making the PS again.

“Career cut short by injury” will be the perfect addendum for his HOF credentials.

Schilling is the #3 in Boston – I doubt losing him would change their urgency on Santana. As a matter of fact, probably more reason to hold on to young depth.

I would look for them to sign a Lohse, Fogg, Benson, or some other fairly solid veteran.

Am I the only one that feels bad about this injury to Schilling? I never wish injury on a player and while Schilling is quirky and annoying, he is a warrior out there on the mound. I wonder what the story is with this? No matter how old Schilling is, he is still not a guy you want to face in game 3 or 4 of a short series.
