I can’t believe how far along its come already. It looks awesome

  2. gipper913i says:

I feel like it hasnt come that far yet. Where is the martini bar?

  3. Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

I think it would be cool if the outfield wall didn’t have any advertising on it. If you really want to be retro, design it so it looks like a ballpark before outfield walls turned into giant versions of NASCAR cars. That’s one thing you gotta hand to Wrigley, the ivy prevents them from having signs on the wall (although it still doesn’t change the fact that it’s a brickwall behind it).

Also, please don’t put digital scoreboards on the walls, they are such an eyesore on TV.

    • effectivelywild says:

Unfortunately even Wrigley put up an Under Armour ad on the doors along the outfield wall last year.

Theres a great thread on baseballfever.com that has been tracking CitiField for a while now. I have to agree with the sentiment going on there lately. WHY are the brick archways only in the front of the stadium? Were they too cheap to have them wrap around the whole stadium? It looks like a bunch of manilla garages with those block cutouts they are using. I hate to nitpick, but I’d love to know the reason.

    • coreynyc says:

Ebbets Field had tons of outfield wall ads.

    • gomets6091 says:

almost all the older stadiums back in the day were littered with advertisements. Take a look at any pictures from the 20’s through the 60’s and you’ll see ads on the fences. It wasn’t till they started using the more modern padded fences that the ads started disappearing, only to start showing up again in recent years.

you guys complain about EVERYTHING….be happy we have a new stadium on the way regardless of the advertisments or the scoreboards on the walls…im looking forward to the 2009 season and Johan to throw the first pitch in the new BEAUTIFUL ballpark

  5. ksuth says:

looks great…can’t wait to see a game there once it opens

    • kowalski69 says:

cant wait until i see EVENT SOLD OUT on mets.com for every single game i try to buy tickets to

      • vin9931 says:

Don’t be cheap and buy season tickets.

        • Saltzy23 says:

Unless you got them this year, forget it. All the US Reserved ST’s are sold out for 08′ and there is no waiting list. Those were $1405 ea. Unless you wanna drop $2600 ea for UD Boxes you are as the saying goes, “Screwed”….

        • kowalski69 says:

to add to that, for priority seating for citifield, youd have to have full season tix for both the 07 and 08 seasons at shea.

        • Saltzy23 says:

I’m pretty sure that you didnt need ‘07 seasons tickets as well. I must have asked my rep 1,000 times if hes sure I will get seats at Citi Field before committing to buying my seats this year(I didnt have season tickets last year), and I was promised that I would get in. Im guessing a few people will get in without a full plan this year in ‘08(probably those who have had packages for many years), but I wouldn’t feel too confident. 45,000 seats in NYC in a brand new baseball stadium for a competitive team that already has a strong ticket base? Those of you who are complaining about the lottery system better get used to it. I think it’ll be season tickets and a lottery for the individual tickets that MLB makes teams sell for each game. There arent gonna be to many tickets available for the next 5-10 years.

        • Paid Like Mike Gallego says:

Interestingly enough, the Mets full season ticket base is not as strong as you’d think. To figure out their 2007 full-season ticket base, I took a look at their attendance for 2007 to find out what the smallest crowd was. On Wednesday May 2, the Mets drew 25, 236 for an afternoon contest against the Marlins. Factoring in a small walkup and partial plan holders, I’d think their full season ticket base was between 21,000 and 24,000.

So far, the Mets have sold approximately 1.8 million tickets for 2008 (see link below). That would work out to 22,000 full season ticket equivalents; with the number of actual full season ticket holders less than that since people have purchased partial plans, seven packs and single game tickets for select games.

        • Saltzy23 says:

Thats a fair argument. My counter would be that A. That was during the ‘07 season, where season ticket plans didnt really mean anything going forward.
This year they have the ‘value’ of priorty in ‘09. I have to believe a lot of longtime account holders upgraded so they wouldnt get shut out. I think there maybe a chance that people that have had an account for a long time will get some sort of an option. If (like me) you didnt have a tenured account I dont think you have a chance, just because they would HAVE to give those people priority. and B. The bottom line is that the Mets drew 3.8 Mil last year. The total capacity for Citi Field is 3.645 Mil. Best case scenerio is its a mad scramble to get any seats, and forget weekend, rival, and playoffs. For $3k this year, to me its worth knowing I dont have to worry about it.

        • Saltzy23 says:

Also, the fact that all the ‘08 cheap season tickets are sold out(even right after the ‘07 collapse. They were gone the day they were available) lends me to believe that even if seats are available they will be expensive seats. Id rather go to 10 games in the UD, then have to scramble to see 2 crappy games from the expensive seats, forget about the playoffs.

  6. anditsouttahere says:

what will they be adding to the character of it. like detroit has the huge tiger, and san fran has the statue. will citi have a large edgardo alfonozo statue or sumthing of that nature?

    • Mets Fan on Wall St. says:

A huge champagne bottle and cigar commemerating the WS victory in 2008. If guys were running back onto the field after the 2006 NL East title just imagine what they’d do if they won at Shea this year?

      • anditsouttahere says:

perfect, but be careful some readers here get angry when you predict a ws. but im on board

  7. AzMetsFan says:

So they don’t build the brick arches there? It looks like they pre make them and truck them in, hopefully, not from China.

  8. Tapeball45 says:

I haven’t seen all of the construction pics..

do they have a marking on the inside where home plate is going to be?

    • Tapeball45 says:

      sorry for the double post..

but I hope they keep a marker (in the new parking lot) for where home plate used to be at Shea..

  9. Tim says:

I know this isn’t the place for obituaries. But… why no mention of the passing of the famous “sign-man” today? There were short pieces in both NY papers (The News and Post) yesterday.

I’d like to offer my condolences to the Ehrhardt family. You are in our thoughts and prayers. Thanks for the great memories and for one of the fun reasons we had to come to Shea.

    • Paulieg says:

Amen, great post. I remember the sign man when I was a kid. in 1973 I sat two rows away. He was great and the mets won that game and the sign went up METS POWER! Great fan, great time God Bless!
My condolences as well the the Ehrhart Family!

      • AzMetsFan says:

This happened 2/8 and there was already a sincere posting about it over the weekend. Matt is way quicker than the newspaper outlets.
