At the blog Random Drivel and Assorted Musings, they make the case for Joe McEwing being elected to the Hall Of Fame in 2012.

Highlights of his career include:

  • Executes perfect sacrifice bunt in 9-2 Mets win over the Expos (July of 2000)
  • Catches foul pop-up vs Pirates (August of 1998)
  • Almost runs out ground ball to the second baseman vs Braves (May of 2001)
  • Traded to Mets for (1983 & 84) All-Star Jesse Orosco in March of 2000

They also have a funny video which dubs McEwing “the greatest utility player to ever play the game…ever!”

…hilarious, i love super joe and all, but it isn’t the hall of lame…i kid, i kid…

Definitely not a HOF career but the guy sure did hussle. He is a class act. Never complained and just went out and did his job. Funny game baseball is as Joe was the last guy Randy Johnson wanted to see up to bat. He just had the Big Ugly’s number.

If only Joe had 500+ ABs against Randy Johnson every year…he would would have eclipsed Bond’s* record by now.

I loved the red arrow pointing to him on the pile-on. That was hysterical.

too bad that’s not actually him…

Everyone loves Joe McEwing, and yet he was so bad.

I heard the HOF class consists of Lil’ Mac, Matt Franco, Danny Heep, Todd Pratt and Bernard Gilkey…..

napes22 February 12, 2008 at 11:33 am

I can’t wait to see Butch Huskey get elected.

It’s funny how people think he owned Randy Johnson. In his career, he was 11-for-44 against him with a .244 OBP and a .676 OPS. Those are Rey Ordonez numbers. It just so happened that he went 6-for-8 against him in a 2 game stretch, and then he was proclaimed a Randy Johnson killer.

However, YOU Mister Koo, are indeed, a Randy Johnson killer.

Saltzy23 February 12, 2008 at 11:34 am

How many players in the history of baseball are only known for one ridiculous slide? Can you remember one other thing about Mr. Koo other than him chugging around 3rd and beating the tag…..I still remember just pointing at my Yankee fan that was at that game with me and just laughing in his face…

Jawlkin Jointz February 12, 2008 at 4:47 pm

i remember he stood liek 59 feet away from the batters box vs the reds in 1 game

Mister Koo February 12, 2008 at 11:35 am

Lol, you got that right!

Tidewater February 12, 2008 at 11:33 am

Those numbers are surprisingly in line with his career norms!

cchiavetta February 12, 2008 at 11:35 am

hahaha super Joe! He should be in the hall of fame because he took D-Wright under his guidance and showed him the ways of being a professional in baseball.

McEwing is in my own personal HOF, not for anything he did on the field, but for his unbelievably complex and hilarious pre-at-bat routine. There must have been at least five different components to it, all executed precisely before every single pitch. It was truly a sight to behold. His routine makes Nomar look positively stoic.

sdanzig February 12, 2008 at 12:20 pm

Nothing about his intricate HOF-caliber rain dance he executed with precision before every swing?

methead February 12, 2008 at 12:27 pm

I hated Joe Mcewing

diehard February 12, 2008 at 4:15 pm

HOW??? He’s just not a player you can possibly hate!! He was never anything!!

MetFaninDaBronx February 12, 2008 at 1:12 pm

Well I for one appreciate that Joe is getting the respect he deserves. Who can argue he isn’t good enough to be in the hall of fame? Afterall, he is way more qualified than Anderson Hernandez.

Alas, Joe isn’t actually eligible to be in the hall of fame. I believe you need to play a minimm of 10 years and Joe had but 9….
