the young/garza trade was real good for both sides, but the twins gave up an arm they might have liked to have now. he would easily be the #1 on that staff.

Damn. I was really hoping we were going to get Livan as a fifth starter innings eater. He is a true horse. Oh well. We do have El Duque and Pelfrey to compete for the 5th spot. But 5 or 6 mil for one year is a nice deal for Livan. Saw someone mention available starters above. Out of them all I agree with the poster who likes Rodrigo Lopez. Lopez can be very good if schooled well. Omar should definetly look at Lopez for SP depth. Chacon is another decent option. He has pitched well at times in his career. I'm sure Omar isnt done with just the Armas signing. We shall see. No matter what 1 through 5 we are a stacked rotation and I am very optimistic.

Lohse name has been mentioned by the Mets, probably to keep his price up for the Phillies though

A great lower level signing in Armas, I frown on taking risks on know injury recoveries though, Garcia/Colon are not worth the injury risk Met management are known to take, this is a new team now, the new mets, however AAA is calling Kim's name.

Any of them including the guys who failed here in the past would be fine. I heard trax just took a AAA/spring training invite job.

The market is wierd this year. Decent guys are just not getting deals anywhere

After the Santana deal...I followed the group over to beerleaguer.com for philly reaction. Consensus there was that they could not have done a deal with the twins because they had no prospects worthy of consideration to make a package. Sounded like the farm was completely barren and the METs package of 2 ok pitchers in Mulvey and Humber and 2 high ceiling potential guys (1 close to ready and the other 3 years away, was unmatchable in their system.

Point being they have nothing to trade for with Billy Beane who is notoriously shrewd.

I can see Blanton to the Yanks for a couple of young pitchers in their system (kennedy and horne)

Let us all hope that it doesnt come to that. There is also the possibility of a trade in the worst case scenerio, but with the lack of any decent SP's available, and other team knowing we would be in desperation mode, we would get raked over the coals...

I guess Im OK with Toe-Knee Arm-Ass, but lets face it. If hes getting more than a spot start here and there this year something would have gone terribly terribly wrong....

Doesn't anyone else find it kind of odd that a 24 yr old with 1 1/2 seasons in the majors (and yet to make 30 starts in a season) is being heavily relied upon to be the Phils' Ace, and we're all scared of him?

Frankly their rotation's a mess, which is the only reason to be concerned about Blanton going there - it'd take a bad rotation for him to make it much better!
