According to a report from Reuters, U.S. prosecutors said free-agent OF Barry Bonds tested positive for steroids in November 2001, only one month after recording his record 73rd home run of the season.
…Update…11:42 pm…
According to the Associated Press, this report was the result of a typo in court papers filed by federal prosecutors.
…so, oops…keep walking…nothing to see here…

Ahhhh…did Bud Selig know about this??? If he did then he needs to go down to!
Guys, these news came out with his indictment – it’s nothing new. What I’m waiting for is for baseball to announce that Roger Clerroid and Barroid will not be allowed in the hall of fame. Someone needs to be made an example out of. They did it with Rose to set an example and there hasn’t been a gambling scandal since…while it has been a problem in other sports, most recently basketball…just make an example, Selig…set your foot down and take a stand….I understand that in this era there are a lot of losers – but if you want to make rules you have to show that there are severe punishments for breaking them – and lying…I also understand that the player’s union will stand wall against this – but I think that tMLB as an organization needs to take a real stand – that’s the only way this whole thing will go away…
I totally agree, but do you think that will really happen?
What are they going to do? Line everyone up and ask if they knew or had any involvement?
Sadly I dont think that much will happen until we as fans take a stand. Going to baseball games just to rain boos at known steroid users, although it gets us on ESPN, still puts money in the team’s, the league’s and the player’s pockets.
If the San Francisco Giants and big Barry Bonds had come to town and found no one in the stands but the grounds crew and ushers the point might have been a little stronger. Instead tickets were sold out, and through the roof on stubhub.
what’s the saying..
“nothing changes if nothing changes”
I think it would be impossible to convince fans not to go to games…and not fair to everyone who’s not a steroid user. Why would you diss DWright and Jose and Pedro by not showing up to the stadium?
I don’t think anyone needs to be lined up…I don’t think there should be any more probes…the whole point of moving on, is..well moving on. As soon as Bonds’ and Clemens’ (soon to be) trials are over and they’re found guilty, MLB MUST make an example of them. Will it happen? I don’t know. It certainly should…it would be better for baseball overall as a sport AND a business. These 2 guys are done – they won’t be doing any more playing, and punishing them by keeping them out of the HOF will set a huge example for everyone who’s even thinking about doing it…if such high profile players can be punished like this, what would happen to your average joe? what would it do to his career? I think in a way, this process has already begun…in the media and among the fans. Clemens keeps on talking about his reputation being ruined…well it is…not primarily because he lied, but because he took steroids. Punishing a guy like Clemens in such a way will be a huge deterrent to anyone who ever considers jumping on the needle. The player’s union will certainly stand in the way…but why not give the guys who decide every award out there put in a vote? Would that be representative of the American baseball public?? How would the writers vote??
oh for sure.. to steal a line from mike and mike in the morning, Short of having a ticket, Clemens isn’t getting anywhere near the HOF..
What about this blast from the past John Rocker…
I know I’d rather shoot myself in the head than give him an inch of credibility, but let’s just (for argument sake) say that what Rocker is saying has a glimmer of truth. That MLB officials were notified and well aware of the issue, and while trying to impose some sort of monitoring system, they were looking the other way in order to keep the sport exciting. How are we to know that with a new implemented system, HGH, which you can’t test for as of yet, will not get this “laissez faire” attitude towards it.
Isn’t it funny that Selig was so hesitant to show up to the potential record breaking home run games. That’s called looking out for number one. So that when all was said and done, he could always look back and say, he wasn’t supportive of it, but I was pressured into keeping a blind eye.
Bonds is such a loser
Interesting, he did test positive and it’s the first time I’ve heard of a test that he has failed. Not that this means the information wasn’t out already but this is news to me.
I’m shocked.
EDDY, YOUR PIC OFFENDS ME! AS MY COUSIN IS STARVIN MARVIN ITS AN EPIDEMIC UP THERE IN AFRICA! PLEASE DISPOSE OF THAT PICTURE!
I thought the pic was great because it clearly showed just how much Barry’s body has changed since taking roids.
yeah, that picture is not in such good taste.
what’s next? Cancer jokes on metsblog?
Little Johnny wakes up on christmas morning, runs downstairs and is greeted by his parents and hundreds of presents under the tree.
“Oh Wow!” cries Little Johnny as he starts tearing away at all the wrapping paper. Little Johnny is so excited as he opens the presents. He has a brand new BMX, a skateboard, a playstation, a brand new PC, a scooter, a climbing frame – everything a little boy would want.
When he finishes opening all the presents, Little Johnny asks his parents if he can go round to Little Timmy’s house to tell him about all the wonderful presents he got.
“Of course you can Little Johnny, off you go, but be back before dinner!”
So off Little Johnny goes, and gets to Little Timmy’s house.
“Oh Timmy! This is the best christmas EVER! I got a playstation, a BMX, a new computer – everything i could ever want!!”
“Oh your so lucky”, replies Little Timmy, “I wish I had cancer.”
Oh god, here comes the PC police….gimme a break….
who cares about Bonds, hes such a retard and a big loser
Does it seem convenient to anyone else that this info was released right around the same time the Bush is rumored to be pardoning Clemens?
Probably as a pre-emptive move to halt cries of racism towards the white house.
“How come you pardoned Clemens and not Bonds?”
“Because Clemens never failed a drug test! Also, Pettitte’s a misrememberin snitch”
you guys are getting pretty handy with the mock baseball cards.
If I understand correctly from the comments above there was a “humorous” baseball card image that is no longer here. Please provide a link to it as I would like to see it for myself not have it censored by others with different sensiblities then my own. Thank you.
It was a card with Bonds big fat head on a skinny African person’s body.
Thanks Phantaroth. Given your description plus the reference to “Starvin’ Marvin” above I think I’ve got a good mental image of what it must’ve been like.
funny no clemens post for days of his congressional hearing, but bonds is up there right away: clemens = bonds
“I dominated that era and I did it clean,” he said. “I can stand by my numbers and I can be proud of them.”
pedro martinez, espn
“I have a small frame and when I hurt all I could do was take a couple of Aleve or Advil, a cup of coffee and a little mango and an egg — and let it go”
another gem from Pedro
Although I’m sure Pedro didn’t know it, his statement works well alongside the Braves fan suggestion that we put an egg in a shoe and beat it. We’ll put an egg in Pedro and beat you Atlanta.
Booyah! Where’s points guy???
it was a typo he didnt get caught
it was a typo he didnt test positive again

november 2000, not november 2001
This post has really got to come down and/or retracted.
Who is this Barry Bonds fellow? Has he done anything significant?
