According to Adam Rubin, at his blog for the Daily News, Orlando Hernandez’s locker in Tradition Field is situated next to the other starting pitchers: Johan Santana, John Maine, Oliver Perez and Pedro Martinez.
Rubin also lists the in-camp uniform numbers for some of the team’s top prospects, such as Jon Niese, Brant Rustich and The Teenage Hitting Machine, who will be wearing No. 67.

The Mets have signed OF Ben Johnson to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.
As reported yesterday on MetsBlog, Johnson is recovering from torn ligaments in his left ankle and a broken left fibula suffered last August while playing with Triple-A New Orleans.

by one player’s narrative…i gravitate to it, and then end up making that person my favorite player of the year…
…camp has yet to officially begin, but i already feel like that player is going to be Duaner Sanchez, who so many people are lifting up to be the most pivotal player on the roster…which is scary, since he has not pitched in a major-league game since 2006…
Sanchez threw a bullpen session yesterday, reports Steve Popper in the Bergen Record, who quotes a Mets official as saying…
“If he didn’t get hurt. We would have won the World Series in 2006 and we wouldn’t have collapsed last year.”
…the Mets were not happy with sanchez last spring, to say the least…there was some buzz suggesting he had not worked hard enough in the off-season…in fact, Willie Randolph and Omar Minaya sent duaner home during the first week of march last spring for periodically reporting late for his scheduled rehab sessions…the word floating over sanchez last spring was ‘trust,’ and whether the front office and players could trust him, his work ethic, results, etc…this does not seem to be the case now…he worked hard all off-season…he’s in great shape…ahead of schedule…and ready for action…and being counted on…a lot…
…what a difference a year makes…
For more on Sanchez, check out the New York Post.
The Daily News has posted pictures of Johan Santana throwing in a gray, Mets spring training t-shirt from yesterday.
Last night on Comedy Central, Mr. Met made a cameo as a writer during The Colbert Report.

Pitchers and catchers are scheduled to report to Tradition Field today.
…even though it is freezing here in New York, i changed the header of MetsBlog to reflect a more spring vibe, with the grand-stand from Tradition Field in Port St. Lucie…i hope it works…
…also, i got the following e-mail last night, which made me laugh…
“If you ever go back to writing ‘Pitchers-n-Catchers’ I will stop reading this site.”
…wow, now that’s an old school reader, who has clearly been reading MetsBlog since its inception…and no worries, that -n- is a thing of the past…
In the Daily News, Adam Rubin recaps yesterday’s action from Tradition Field, including whether or not Shawn Green is retired; the state of Duaner Sanchez and Juan Padilla; and the not-so-steep learning curve for Brian Schneider, who understands that he is replacing Paul Lo Duca.
Schneider, on Lo Duca and the fans…
“The fans loved him here. There’s no reason not to. He’s got a lot of energy. He’s got a lot of fire.”
…he shouldn’t be too concerned…seriously…i enjoyed cheering for lo duca as much as the next Mets fan, but at the end of the day, if schneider plays hard and the team wins, we’ll cheer for him too…coming off of last year, i sense that this season will be all about hard work, focus and wins, from the fan’s perspective…
For more on Schneider, read Jeremy Cothran in the Star-Ledger, who talks with the catcher about getting to know his new pitching staff.
At Faith and Fear in Flushing, Jason tells of his day in in Vegas, betting that the 8–to-1 Mets will win the World Series.
…thanks for the jinx, jason…nice job, buddy…
The Brooklyn Met Fan gives his take on yesterday’s Congressional Hearings in Washington, DC, featuring Roger Clemens.
At Mets Geek, Chris McCown will introduce you to this year’s Non-Roster Invitees, or ‘NRI,’ as he calls them.
Meanwhile, at Amazin’ Avenue, Eric Simon takes a
look back at the nine hall of famers who played for the Mets at one time or another, including Warren Spahn, Willie Mays, Tom Seaver and Eddie Murray, among others.
…ah, yes, Eddie Murray…the good ol’ days (insert eye-roll here)…
Lastly, at Metstradamus, John has some fun with the Philly Phanatic, Photoshop and Anna Benson.
