Quote: The Mets Missed Duaner Sanchez
…every spring, i become intrigued
by one player’s narrative…i gravitate to it, and then end up making that person my favorite player of the year…
…camp has yet to officially begin, but i already feel like that player is going to be Duaner Sanchez, who so many people are lifting up to be the most pivotal player on the roster…which is scary, since he has not pitched in a major-league game since 2006…
Sanchez threw a bullpen session yesterday, reports Steve Popper in the Bergen Record, who quotes a Mets official as saying…
“If he didn’t get hurt. We would have won the World Series in 2006 and we wouldn’t have collapsed last year.”
…the Mets were not happy with sanchez last spring, to say the least…there was some buzz suggesting he had not worked hard enough in the off-season…in fact, Willie Randolph and Omar Minaya sent duaner home during the first week of march last spring for periodically reporting late for his scheduled rehab sessions…the word floating over sanchez last spring was ‘trust,’ and whether the front office and players could trust him, his work ethic, results, etc…this does not seem to be the case now…he worked hard all off-season…he’s in great shape…ahead of schedule…and ready for action…and being counted on…a lot…
…what a difference a year makes…
