In a post to his blog for Newsday, David Lennon provides a written transcript from Billy Wagner’s chat with reporters today in Port St. Lucie.

Wagner, on whether he is anxious to see Duaner Sanchez pitch, as quoted by Lennon…

“Yeah, I am. Shoot, he’s a huge key to our bullpen. I don’t think we can expect him to go out there and throw 22 scoreless to start the season, I don’t think we can expect that type of dominance early after not pitching for a year and a half. I think what we have to do is use him in a way that’s not going to hurt him. By September, he’s going to really make a difference in that bullpen that we didn’t have last year. Him being here, if he can get back to his old form, that allows Willie the comfort of having the roles that we want with Aaron [Heilman], Duaner and myself. I think that really takes a lot of pressure off [Pedro] Feliciano and [Scott] Schoeneweis to have to pick up and pitch in situations they really shouldn’t be in.”

…Dirty, as some of you call him, is truly the one to watch…maybe even more than Johan Santana

Wagner also talks about the ‘collapse,’ Johan Santana and where the Mets rank in the NL East, among other things.

I think that Billy Wagner is stepping up and taking that role that Paulie had last year and is going to provide that fire that everybody has been saying might be missing. He’s really not going to stay shut this year and will express how he feels no matter what.

Eh I know he means well but I’d rather him not patronize ScSc and especially Feliciano.

ditto. He basically said that PF and SS were crap, and shouldn’t have been pitching in important spots.

Not that he was doing much better, when he even felt OK to pitch..
