To check out video of Johan Santana’s throwing session today at Tradition Field, go to Steve Popper’s blog for the Bergen Record.
Meanwhile, go to
to check out video of Pedro Martinez (and his head-band), Billy Wagner’s chat with reporters, and Kevin Burkhardt’s interview with John Maine.
Maine, on whether Santana helps turn the page on the ‘collapse,’ while talking to Burkhardt…
“Yeah, I think so. He’s the best pitcher in the game right now. So, it’s a fresh face. With him coming in it gives the team a different look, and a little different attitude. So, it’s like, last year is over, and with the new additions, especially Santana, we can start this new season.”
According to Maine, he’s not working on any new pitches. Instead, he’s working on the ‘mental part.’

I was watching a small TV across a crowded barroom when that SNY footage of Pedro came on and I thought “why is Pedro dressed like Zorro?” I was relieved later to find out it was a headband/sunglasses combo.
Haha. I mis-saw it myself. I thought he had some sort of half-mohawk.
Great video.
Gotta love Pedro saying he’s still the man. This should be a great competition between he and Santana…Speaking of Santana, is it too early to get a Yoooooo-haaaaaaan chant going???
Its never to early for a yooooo-haaaan chant
I do it first thing in the morning and right before bed…
wouldnt it be Jooooooo-haaaaaaaan, a yoooooo-haaaaaan chant would sound like youuuuuuu-haaaaaaan.
Hopefully we can work on pelfrey’s “mental part” aswell
The mental part being him not thinking about Jessica Simpson in her birthday suit spread eagle when he’s trying to throw a change up to Ryan Howard.
Howard secretly wants to be a Met…true.
I like how maine is all over the place these days and is becoming some kind of a spokesman for the team in addition to wright, pedro, and wagner.
i got all hyped up to see a video of “Santana’s throwing session” …. He threw one pitch on the video! they showed him for a second and then cut to Martinez…. that was one heck of a tease.
agreed…why couldn’t we see all 30 pitches?
Mets now have 3 aces; Johan, Pedro and John. Sounds like a 60’s tune!
I cannot believe how this one man has changed my whole outlook on our team and the ‘08 season.
Omar; there are no words!
Now I gotta get back to thinking about Jessica Simpson….
**********LET’s GO METS **********************
wowwwwwww does this video make me feel good, all we need is pedro to stay healthy and him and santana are an awesome one two punch, i really think as well that johan is gunna influence ollie soooooooooooo much, hes really gunna help him perform and reach his very high potential, this year ollie and maine jus need to stay focused, they have nasty pitches but its also about the mental game
I’ll give it to Klap, he wrote a great piece here. I’m glad Pedro gets a chance to explain why he was tagged with his prima donna label and why he’s tried to be careful. It’s guys like Pedro who, when we look back at this era and see what he did, will shine even more for his abilities and accomplishments.
Pedro is in many ways the heart and soul of this team, just as he was for every team he’s been on. Having said that, I sincerely hope Omar re-signs him if he’s physically able to pitch. He means a lot to this franchise simply from the attitude he brings.
I also think that Maine is a liar when he says he’s not working on a new pitch. Why would he tell anyone he’s working on something new? He’s a tough competitor out there. I’m one of the people who thought 15 wins was in his reach last year and I expect at least as many this year but suspect he will win around 17 or so. Good pitching is contagious and this rotation has a chance, lead by Pedro and Johan, to be really good.
I agree with raincntry, as a matter of fact I think Maine or Ollie will have a breakout season. Pitching is contagious as mentioned above.
Johan will raise everyone’s game. I think Pedro will be not far behind Santana in wins.
YoooooooooooooHaaaaaaaaaaaaan!!!!!!
Still pinching myself….too good to be true
agreed…the 4 of them could quite reasonably win 16+ games each. If they do…this team is a juggernaut. When you factor in improved defense at second base, right field and catcher, the speed on this team and a healthy Dauner Sanchez, it’s an absolutely dominating baseball team. This team can beat you in so many ways.
They have the talent, all they need now is that swagger and focus that was lacking last season. Their attitude shouldn’t be to throw their gloves on the field and expect to win like last season, it should be that if they go out and play the game the right way – hit the cutoff man, pitch well and not commit stupid mental errors, then they beat anybody and can win every single game they go out to play.
