At his blog for Newsday, David Lennon recaps a slow day from Mets camp, including Billy Wagner’s spiral and David Wright’s defense, as well as Group 1’s bunting drills, of which Lennon writes…
“On the field, it was amusing to see that even $137.5-million pitchers have to repeat drills until they get them right. When Johan Santana goofed on looking back a runner at second, Guy Conti, fungo in hand, barked, ‘Do it again!’ At first, it seemed like Santana didn’t hear him. Either that, or he couldn’t believe Conti actually was telling him to get back on the mound. Regardless, Santana did it flawlessly the second time around.”
Fore more, read Lisa Kennelly in the Star-Ledger, who writes about clubhouse life for two young prospects; and the New York Post, where Bart Hubbach explains that Willie Randolph intends to get Jose Reyes more days off during this season.
According to a phone call from SNY’s Kevin
Burkhardt, it’s fairly quiet in Port St. Lucie today – with no new arrivals to camp.
Pedro Martinez did not work out with his group today, instead opting to throw 20 pitches from a mound in the bullpen.
During a talk with reporters, Willie Randolph said Martinez looked great and threw the ball well.
…otherwise, that’s it…lazy day, i guess…
Tonight on
, during Geico’s SportsNite, Burkhardt will do a live, one-on-one interview with Ryan Church, plus talk with prospects Eddie Kunz and Brant Rustich.
