This is a Mets site; for those concerned with nominating Billy J (all five foot three inches of him) for sainthood, please go to billyj.com. maybe as a tribute to billy you can wear your crayons, cerucci jeans and a little horn on a chain to every game you attend at Shea. The guy had some nice albums early on and then some very nonconsequential ones during the last 20 yrs. Simon & Garfunkle might be a better NY choice, even if Paul is a Skank fan and Artie cant hit the high notes anymore.... Back to baseball

Standard concert business and simple economics - supply and demand. The 1st show sold out in 1 hr, so they added a 2nd, not surprised one bit. Billy's retirement show was 12/31/99, the millenium concert. Since then he has gotten healthy and fully sober and returned to performing. His concerts in recent years, particularly his 12 night performance at MSG in '06 were some of his best.

No reason to tell someone to suck it because they prefer different artists, I agree with you.

My reason for commenting was the notion that he didn't grow. I think that the Bridge, as well as River of Dreams, aside from the popular songs, show a lot of growth. Or maybe I should say insight. Like Bruce, he writes a lot about his personal life and issues and changes he sees going on around him.

No Man's Land is a great slap against the spreading suburbanism of Long Island.

I was lucky enough to score tickets, thanks. Saw Billy at the Garden a couple of years ago, great show. You should give him another shot, I'll make a mix CD for ya!

As for the Yankee fan thing, I think that's due to the stand of shows he did there back in the 1990's. I don't know if he is a fan or not though. How many artists would pass up that opportunity? I even went to one of the shows . . . my only time at Yankee Stadium.

Peter, I didn't enjoy them, you did. It's all subjective and opinion. There are no scientific facts either of us can point to to suggest exactly where/why Billy Joel was no longer interesting to me while he continued to be so to you. It simply occurred. Because you did NOT tell me to "suck it" I truly hope you enjoy the shows if you're fortunate enough to go.

Perhaps you can help me with one issue. I believe but cannot substantiate that Mr. Joel is a Yankee fan, which is a small part of my overall objection to him "playing off" Shea. Any thoughts/info?

I'm 42. I'll suck on the money and time I saved by not planning for and not going to a concert by an artist I don't enjoy, while also sucking on not being schookered by promoters into buying tickets to a "last" even that turned out not to be. Of course, originally 12/1/99 at The Garden was supposed to be his last concert too. Chew on that.

The Bridge and River of Dreams were excellent records.

Throw out some stuff between them and the "Glass Houses" period, but at the end he was very good.

He grew, maybe you just didn't get it.

Hey umm... if you don't like Billy Joel... then don't go.

Just sit at home and enjoy a nice quiet all-star break.

I'm not sure you internet people realize how big Billy Joel is around here and how many fans he has. I've seen him in three separate venues recently (Syracuse, NYC, Boston) and each place was nuts for him. If they were basing their final concert series on the opinions of 30 people who visit metsblog.com then yeah, maybe they shouldn't have chosen Billy Joel. But I think they decided to reach out to a fan base just a little bit beyond this tiny little message board universe.

I'm just pissed that I got tickets to "The Last Show" and now they added more. That's false advertising. What a shame. BTW, if you didn't see Billy Joel in NYC during the '86 playoffs, you missed some great shows. Oh, and all the kiddies who are throwing around the hate for Billy Joel - suck it.
